OT: All-star game and Derek Jeter farewell

Commenting on Jeter may qualify as only a little OT, but how about opening the ASG with a double?  What an incredible talent.

And the d-bag yelling "over-rated" in a quiet stadium should have multiple beers poured on his head.  So much for Minnesota nice.

as I never root for the Yankees and have felt that while he's been a fine ballplayer for his entire career, Jeter's fallen short of being the absolute best of his generation.  But always, ALWAYS a class act ALL THE TIME, and there are not that many star ballplayers that I consider as classy.  Kind of like Al Kaline was to a previous generation, expecially to Tigers fans.

Now, though, it's braggin time---I got tickets a long time ago to see the Yankees at the Tigers this August in what should be Jeter's final appearance in Detroit and I'm pretty geeked about it.

Great ovation for Jeter. IMO, the greatest player of his generation, even though he was a Yankee. Miggy doing work.

He is a class act and a perfect representative of Kalamazoo Central. An all time great no doubt. I, personally, will miss his humility. He was drafted when I was in 7th grade so I became a huge Jeter, and subsequently, yankee fan. It was a privilege to watch him play all these years!

I'm sorry but I am not a jeter fan. I do find him to be a tad overrated but that's on the media not him. I've grown up hating the Yankees which leads to my dislike of #2.

Now the big issue I have is this whole thing him and Rivera have done; announcing prior to the season that this will be it. I hate that every team holds this little ceremony prior to the last home game of season vs yanks and gives away gifts. I get that people want to see him before he's done but to me it comes off a little egotistical. On top of that all the media play up of each and every little thing about jeter during this season drives me nuts. A couple weeks ago espn was playing up the Boston nyy game as Jeter's last ever game on tv. The promos for the asg were all about him.

Anyways I just wish that these guys would've done the Gretzky exit instead of this season long "garbage".

sure people might get sick of the season long farewell but think about the alternative of him in last year of his contract.  Media stories about will the Yankees resign him, will he have to change position, or having to go through a contract negoation.  He might have wanted to avoid that and thought announcing now was less painful.

I was disappointed that no one mentioned Derek's Turn 2 Foundation and all the great work it does with kids.  Far too few superstars give back to their communities like Jeter has.  He will retire but the foundation he created will continue to make this world a little better place to live.

It was just an all star game.

Nothing wrong with serving one up to Jeter on a platter.  Why try to show him up?

But on the downside the outcome of the game decides home field advantage in the WS.
