OT: 49ers fire Tomsula
I guess 5-11 wasn't winning Jed York any Super Bowls.
Jim Tomsula has been relieved of his duties as head coach. https://t.co/EihXTdHcL1 pic.twitter.com/IoHZlJr2zl

I did not know they made glasses that did that.

I work with a guy that has a pair. It's a magnet in the middle and they're pretty slick.

Not slick enough, apparently.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:06 PM ^
Love how he squints immediately after taking off his glasses.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:32 PM ^
Wow. I didn't see that coming. The glasses coming apart, that is. He was obviously going to be fired.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:36 PM ^
Yeah wtf kind of glasses are those.
I don't get how those are anymore effective than regular glasses.
January 4th, 2016 at 7:25 AM ^
they help if you get punched in the nose a lot -- the glasses slip off and don't get broken
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:04 PM ^
But keeping Baalke. The guy who made this hire. Never change, Jed. Never change.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:39 PM ^
Baalke actually wanted to hire the Bears OC after Harbaugh was fired.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:04 PM ^
Helllllooooo Chip Kelly.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:12 PM ^
*One year from now in Santa Clara*
Goodbyeeeee Chip Kelly
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:05 PM ^
Why would any good coach sign up for that crap show?
Thank you for sending Jim Harbaugh home!
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:05 PM ^
Never hire a DL coach as a head coach....
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:24 PM ^
Wellll
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:05 PM ^
Lol I could have predicted this after seeing his first radio interview

by an idiot with a huge ego. I would still like to thank him for sending jimmy back home though. Thought he could plug anyone in and win, understimated the power of Harbaugh.

Jed should just coach the team himself.

a Christmas card to Jed to thank him for his stupidity.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:06 PM ^
Jed York is the gift that keeps on giving.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:06 PM ^
Jed York is proof that wealth and competence are not necessarily correlated.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:09 PM ^
Lions' fans unfortunately understand that point.

"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure."
Another of my favorite Mark Twain quotes.

Always loved
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

Nobody knows exactly where this quote came from. Oft attributed to a John Wayne role, fans have pored through all his flicks to no avail. Oh well, it still seems best to me if I imagine it spoken by The Duke in his classic drawl.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:07 PM ^
didn't see that coming...where is York?
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:10 PM ^
although, to be fair, how was he ever going to win with that sad roster...half the team retired and the other half played like CK
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:21 PM ^
Exactly. I'm actually kind of impressed that he got five wins with that roster.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:07 PM ^
Haha how'd that work out firing Harbaugh and hiring Tomsula
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:07 PM ^
He sucked as a head coach but like Marinelli in Detroit greater blame belongs to that man that gave somebody so unprepared and unqualified for the HC position the job in the first place.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:08 PM ^
That went well.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:09 PM ^
Man, you fart in ONE press conference ...
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:09 PM ^
So was this again a "mutual agreement" between coach and owner?

Interesting move. He is Kemps uncle and has ties to the Harbaugh family. Also lets us keep Partridge on the coaching staff.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:19 PM ^
For us to promote Partridge, someone has to leave the staff. Given DC Don Brown's history as a LB or CB coach, the 2 options are Partridge goes back to his old position or Jackson/Zordich goes back to pros (and then Partridge is promoted).

Chip or Brian?
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:12 PM ^
Brian to SF. Chip to ND.

or Grace perhaps?
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:14 PM ^
Screw Indy, Harbaugh is on the first DTW-SFO flight possible. Lol.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:50 PM ^
I'm too old. It'd kill me.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:16 PM ^
I kinda feel bad for Tomsula. He's a Peter Principle icon who was a vanity hire to soothe the egos of York and Balke. They were the ones that drove off an incredible coach. It's not Tomsula's fault he got out in a position where everything he did was a referendum on the 49ers treatment of Harbaugh.
He's gotten a lot of heat here, because he's the guy they wanted instead of JH. And he's awkward and probably unqualified. But c'mon, he's just a position coordinator. There are dozens of Michigan guys that we like that would look like buffoons if they were suddenly hired to replace a legend somewhere. Tomsula is an unfortunate scapegoat that was placed in an untenable position and hung out to dry.
Sure, they need to let him go. But let's cut the guy a bit of a break.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:35 PM ^
Tomsula was promised the position while Harbaugh was still the head coach, and its not like he turned it down.
I wish him well, but he definitely was clear-eyed about what he was getting into. Caveat emptor.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:45 PM ^
No kidding. Imagine if Michigan hired Lloyd Carr's former d line coach to run the program. That is too ridiculous to even contemplate.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:16 PM ^
5 wins with that roster was actually pretty spectacular.
January 3rd, 2016 at 10:40 PM ^
As a 49ers fan I agree. Not saying Tomsula is the answer but can't really do much more with that roster. Front office is a joke and glad Michigan has Harbaugh.
