Beating a dead horse??

I would strongly disagree with this.  This isn't a dead horse because this just happened. Just think about the message his statement sends from his recently released email.

The first victim to come forward is probably getting kickbacks from other attorneys by manipulating other victims.

Maybe you didn't read that part?  Maybe you did.  If you didn't read anything about this then you are being willfully ignorant.  If you did read about it then I find your comment disgusting.  Engler's statement is exactly what causes the culture of abuse that occurred there to over 300 women.

Next MSU BoT meeting is Friday.  We'll see what happens then.  I do think he gets fired eventually, but Engler isn't going to leave on his own.

How many of the eight BOT members publicly want Engler to go?  Last I read, there were two. I wish ALL the BOT's would leave and take Engler with them, but it seems unlikely.

It took a village for Nassar to find the space and time and freedom to do his devil’s work.

He could have been stopped. He should have been stopped. But he wasn’t, because of a culture that still needs to be fixed, starting with the removal of the school’s leadership.  I lose hope by the day.

You're right --- 2 of the 8 have publicly asked for Engler to resign.  Those 2 are Mosallam and Bynum.

The difficulty is going to be with the other 6:

3/4/5/6) Not to interject politics into this thread, but Breslin, Foster, Kelly and Lyons are all from the same party as Engler.  Foster was actually first appointed to the MSU BoT by Engler back in 1991. These 4 may flip but politics will play a factor here.

7/8) Ferguson and Perles are off the opposite party of Engler.  However, those 2 are also idiots to the 9999999th degree who don't seem to think Engler/MSU have done anything wrong here at all.  It's rather unlikely either of those two will "do the right thing."  If Engler does get fired, I expect these 2 to be the very last 2 holdouts.

It's not a pretty situation up there in terms of how the MSU BoT internal dynamics.

I usually ignore you --- but I'll indulge you for once (and only this once).

Jay Paterno has NOTHING to do with my comment (or anything to do with this thread).  Why bring him up?  What's your point?  Does the school that I happened to choose to go to undergrad for (I made that decision 20 years ago)?  Do you feel better about yourself because you have had an opportunity to bash a Penn State fan?  Do you feel this board is better for your comment?

You've seen me posting here for years (and vice versa).  I feel that I contribute to this board with my comments, despite being a Penn State fan.  If you think otherwise, email the mods and ask them to ban me.

The one thing that keeps going through my head is that Engler could have simply remained retired, but instead he caps his public career with a gigantic debacle. Indeed, he ends up responsible - in part - for making said debacle worse than it even was before. The misjudgments here simply astound.

Ehh it's pretty clear that Engler took this job for two reasons:

1) the money aspect. We're seeing that he's enriching himself and his cronies at an alarming rate, and he got one hell of a benefit package. MSU is being treated like a bank account he wants to drain.

2) the political aspect. He has connections with some of the movers and shakers in Michigan's political sphere, including those who may be running for office.

In no way do I believe that he cares one iota about assault victims or even MSU's wellbeing. This guy has a history of disdain for women's rights, public education, and any pursuit beyond enriching himself.

What's the point of that? MSU isn't going to hire a new President that will turn around and make actual changes and fire their 2 best coaches in school history.

Engler will just be replaced by a lesser known Engler 2.0

I didn't think my hatred for sparty could increase but watching this buffoon handle this has indeed upped the disgust factor. Now I despise the entire university not just the sports teams.

True if Engler and MSU were actually following up with making changes to help prevent future tragedies.  But as victims they can still react to dumbshit statements and actions that indicate women will still be at risk.  They will always have a strong voice in that aspect, and they should.

IANAL, but I suppose that may be true legally.

However, they are a great voice that people will acknowledge and listen to. It's clear that Engler had and continues to have a particular attitude and perspective toward these whole proceedings. If this is how he thinks of and talks about verified victims of repeated sexual assault, he will have little credibility as the leader who crafts new policies, procedures, and especially culture around sexual assault on this campus. "You got your pound of flesh, so get over it" is not exactly the foundation on which you should want to build.

What continues to amaze me, is how this issue is viewed so differently by so many people. Many think that Engler has done a great job (see RCMB), he settled the law suits, problem resolved, now everyone should just move on. While many others, think that very little has been done to correct the core issues and likely won’t be done under this current BOT and acting President.

There isn't any way he can last much longer. At some point the pressure has to be so great that he is forcibly removed if he won't resign on his own.

That man is a cancer.

That this letter was sent is not at all surprising. However, there is almost no chance that it moves the BoT to act. I mean, if they haven't acted in spite of all of the things Engler has already said and done himself, why would anyone believe that they'll act because of what someone else (even the sister survivors) have to say about him?

I don't know how you guys who live in Michigan can stand it.

I'm out here in NY, and it dumbfounds me the number of Sparty fans on my various social media who are still talking trash, yucking it up about the upcoming football season, etc. They're idiots. They should be ashamed to be associated with what has gone on in E Lansing.

And I'm sure it's much worse if you actually live in the state. Mind-boggling, these people.

Now I don't support violence, but I have to wonder how in the world a doucgebag as astronomically douchey as him still has a straight nose.
