OSU may possibly be good at basketball

OSU beats MSU 80-64. Hmm

Leaders And Best

Matta won with some teams with less talent before the Oden-Conley team and the Sullinger team.

I think you have to wonder if Matta would possibly still have his job if Bates-Diop does not get hurt last year. Take Bates-Diop off this year's OSU team, and I think you would have a team with a similar or worse record compared to last year.

I don't think it is magic of better coaching that has OSU better this year. It is a team with 3 seniors who were highly recruited players (Bates-Diop, Jae'Sean Tate, Kam Williams) and now healthy in the weakest Big Ten in possibly over a decade. Remember Bates-Diop and Tate were two players Michigan had prioritized in recruiting and wanted badly.

Bates-Diop is the B1G POY so far.  He is playing incredibly well.  They're a totally different team without him this year.

That said their offense looks a lot better organized under Holtmann.  I think he gets modern offenses a bit more than Matta did and that was part of the reason Matta faded a bit.

I see they are #1, I'll admit only watched them a bit. However, in watching first half nothing looked that great. Seems like you want to keep them in the half court. Bridges still seems overrated to me. Jackson is a stud, but just keep him out of the paint. I don't know, maybe I am wrong, nothing about msu says "wow" to me.

MSU is #1 on Kenpom with a top 5 offense and defense. I think we only say nothing wows us about them because that's what we want to be true.

And OSU is only 5 spots behind us on Kenpom rating too. They're solid. I think we'll beat em when the game comes back to Crisler though.

Thank you for allowing me to be unimpressed. I’m glad you told me how to feel about them. But are they solid, or do they just play really well at home? Rutgers and Northwestern are there first two road B10 games and then they play 5 straight home games against shitty B10 teams. They don’t play a tough away B10 game for another month. I suspect we won’t know if they are a solid team until next month, when they play us, Purdue, PSU, and Indiana on the road.

they've played an abysmal schedule with the only real quality win over UNC (which in and of itself isn't even that great and was largely due to UNC not being able to make open threes).

They have absolutely murdered bad teams and beat a decent Maryland team by 30 so they looked like the real deal but yeah, they've looked heavily overrated in this game.  Possible that their shiny kenpom is like those Wisconsin years in which they were top 10ish thanks to murdering bad teams.

Interestingly, their only road game before today was Rutgers and they only won that by 10.

They didn't play a single true road non-conf game and haven't really challenged themselves like they usually do.

I am a basketball noob, so just my observation, but Izzo seems to make a lot of the play calls in his team's half court sets, rather than let his point gaurd make the call.  Beilein seems to be the opposite, allowing his PG to make the call even late in a game rather than call a time out.

Izzo has been one of the most accomplished coaches in college for a long time, but just something I noticed.  I just wonder if it limits his players in reading the defense. I'm most likely just talking out of my ass, but that's what the internet is for right? right?

Yeah, everyone has railed on Michigan's non-conference schedule but no one has said anything about MSU's shit pre-league slate that was as bad or worse than Michigan's. There's a reason that their RPI is only 22 despite their shiny 15-1 record.

Currently at the game wearing a Michigan shirt. MSU is weak. Something like seven travels in the first half and Izzo got a tech. They definitely have talent. But there's no discipline or coaching

Up 21 now, jeepers. Haven't watched since the halftime buzzer beater by our boy! Sparty is still really good. They're usually good shooting team but tonight have it been (it was 20 percentage points lower than their average before halftime). They'll bully us but Ohio St is able to hang with their bruisers seemingly well...and they're hitting shots.

It looks like a wrestling match.  There's so much pushing, hand slapping, etc., it's the ugliest form of basketball on the planet.

At least Staee plays Rutgers after this. Hopefully they'll take the loss out on them instead. I don't have a great feeling about the game next Saturday but if we can beat Purdue (which I think we can), we can go into EL with some big time momentum. It might have to be another anuyerism of leadership type game for us to win.

Big Ten basketball is super weird. Home court is super big advantage because I feel the officials lean toward the home team. The Big Ten officials are also always inconsistent and are known to change how they call a game from half to half

where's the guy that posted the other day that msu would roll through the BIG undefeated.  well, it only took a few days for that first loss.  more to come.
