Ortmann appears to strike Corey Liuget after fumble

Omameh got on the field last week, and I'm curious how he will grade out. Since the Big Ten did not act on Mouton until Thursday, the last question is how do you prepare this week? At this point, I think I would assume he's gone. If it's in the newspaper, the big ten will look. If Zook sends something in to the league office, it's definitely lights out for Ort this week. EDIT: I'm not judging Ortmann, Liuget's celebration was very annoying, and frustration and etc. Only speculating what the big ten might do.

I thought I saw this during the game. That looks like a 1 game suspension for sure. Its frustrating to see again that we were only down 2 scores right at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

I saw this during the game, the guy came off the field doubled over. They didn't make a big deal about it so i figured i saw something that didn't happen.

FWIW there are plays like this that go on in every game. Is it sportsmanlike, no. But there is no way any of this will ever be completely taken out of the game. I think the B10 is bringing more attention to these issues with their suspensions and in doing so making themselves look bad. They really should have let sleeping dogs lie.

I agree that he'll probably receive a 1-game suspension. I do think that this happens more often than people realize, but usually it happens less blatantly. I guess the hits just keep on coming.

If there was a punch, there will be a suspension. It's a simple as that. The B10 office might give Rich Rod the chance to view the tape and act first, but they're serious about this stuff. It may happen in every game. It may happen multiple times in every game. So what? That doesn't make it defensible. I don't care how annoying some other guy is being. I don't care if he's insulting your girlfriend. Wait for the next play and then pancake his ass ... legally.

"problem" is that there is no clear evidence he connects. whether he does (duh) or doesn't, i don't think the league can suspend a player for what looks to be a hit and a player limping off. or one hopes. line needs to mature, though.

I was going to start a comment but you pretty much summed up my thoughts. For all we know, he slapped the outside of the guy's thigh to get him to back off (though very unlikely). Unless they have another camera angle on this, I don't think they can punish somebody for what we think might've happened. But yeah, probably did punch him. And yeah, they need to mature.

Yeah, he is probably gone for Purdue. I would love to see a rule where there would be no such thing as unnecessary roughness or a late hit on a player who is clearly taunting. Watch people get knocked their asses in the middle of their little dances, or getting a nut-punch for waving their junk where it doesn't belong, and hopefully that kind of shit would disappear from the game. Of course that kind of solution is not feasible, but there is something enjoyable about seeing someone get what they have coming. At the very least I would like to see something akin to instigating penalties in hockey. If you are clearly trying to provoke someone (like by waving your fat gut and crotch in someone's face), and a fight ensues, the instigator should be penalized as well.

If the conference follows its established policy this year, it should suspend Ortmann. However, if they don't make mention of the instigation -- Liuget clearly walked into a stationary player to celebrate -- their reaction would be incomplete. Nobody is innocent here: Ortmann was wrong, but Liuget wasn't right.

It looks to me like Ortmann is just saying "aw shucks!". Seriously there is no evidence of anything if this is the only clip IMO. I don't see a reaction from Liuget (at least in the Mouton incident the was a head jerk after the supposed hit - the ND player wasn't even phased after that play.) There is not enough footage. EDIT: Just saw the aftermath picture page - I'm wrong.

FTR: Spikes suspended half a game per EDSBS. Also, I removed the IlliniBoy mini-thread here because he was being wrongly persecuted. He argued a legitimate point and was negbanged 40+ points. Meanwhile, a mgocommenter said he wanted to punch IlliniBoy in the nuts for pointing out how ridiculous it is to defend a guy who punches another guy in the nuts was posbanged about 15 points. formerlyanonymous for not punching guys in the nuts
