Oregon v. Purdue

Submitted by Sommy on

I didn't see another thread (my apologies if I just missed it).

I just got home; great Saturday. I didn't realize this game was on this late. Good game, too -- the lead has changed hands six times or so. Purdue is down by a score and has the ball at the Oregon 40 yard line.

I'm not a "root for your conference" kinda guy, but it'd be nice to see Purdon't take down Oregon.

I'm sure it has, but let's be honest -- they pretty much speak for themselves. Pointing out how dumb they look is sort of like saying that water is wet.

Their cheerleaders don't look half-bad in their cheer get-up, though.

I love the Oregon uniforms. College football is such a conservative sport that it's periodically nice to see someone come out and throw a wrench in the machinery. Oregon's crazy approach to uniforms and architecture (Autzen is one wacky looking stadium) always appeals to me.

That being said, I hope Purdue wins. The Big 10 lost some a little luster today, and anything we can get back is appreciated. Of course, some of the 'faded glory' is directly attributable to the WWL pimping the 'Big 10' respectability story line. Millen and his commentator compatriot must have mentioned the respectability of the Big 10 every 30 seconds or less.

Yeah, I hear ya. The respectability issue is so overblown by the media at the moment. I guess it makes good copy and talking points for the writers and announcers.

As for today:
-Despite getting their hearts torn out at the end of the game, OSU actually did play well against SC.
-Our win over ND was scintillating. So there's two high profile games where the conference 'showed up'.
-Purdue gave Oregon a tough game despite losing.
-I suppose some of the other games were not so exciting in the 'right ways' for the conference profile (re: MSU loss; and despite their wins maybe Minny, Wisc, Indy and N should have dominated more?).
-As an aside, I was amused by the "PSU shuts down Syracuse" byline ESPN was running. Watch out for the 'Cuse. Har har.
All in all, B10 went 8-3 with some exciting games. That sounds pretty good to me.

It's early in the season and until B10 teams 'win' more big profile games, I suppose the media will keep pushing the topic to fill up the airspace.

All said, I'm just glad we won today!

is Oregon just not that good. Purdue has put up some points the last two games. I only saw a few minutes of the Oregon game, but the Boilers seemed to be able to move the ball and have some speed as well.

SInce I know little about them at this point, Can they still be considered one of the "should win" game for Michigan?

they could be the 4th best team in the Big 10. They played the Ducks really tough. Oregon's down this year, but they're still an upper echelon Pac-10 team.
