If Speight gets us in FG position, we win and all is forgotten.  But reality is, the defense gave him enough chances.  Yes, the offensive line was overwhelmed especially in the first half.  But we came back like I knew we could with our defense.  But bottom line, Speight didn't do enough.

Was I the only one who thought fsu was clearly offside on the last pass?

This one is painful.  But man, gotta give the D some credit.  They played their asses off.

Even if Speight managed to get us in FG position I think we would have all recognized that he is not the man for the job. He was significantly worse than the OSU game, which was his worst game of the season (I think? I'm not 100% sure it was worse than Iowa, but I'm going with it). Even if you want to say that he had nagging injury issues, the injury had to have been less bad today than it was against OSU. He did not have the mental toughness to go out and win a big game with a hostile crowd. I pray that Peters can step up in camp and show that he is worthy of starting next year, even if it means that we are resigning ourselves to an 8 win season in favor of greatness the following year.

from the nation's leading sack unit.

Non dual-threat QBs are not going to look good in that situation.  If he were an ordinary pro-style QB without a special pocket presence/savvy, you'd be screaming at the OL for giving up 10 sacks tonight.

Wilton recognized the pressure and got rid of the ball hurriedly.  I see some positive in his QB IQ there.  His accuracy, that could've been a lot better, but he was under pressure (and sometimes you reasonably expect it even when the OL surprises you with decent protection for a play).

on that play.  All that would have bought was one more attempt to get a first down on 4th and 11 or so.  And we still needed a bunch of yards to even get in modest FG range.  So, with so little time left on the clock, it's doubtful that made any difference in the outcome of the game.  It did add salt to the wound though in a very disappointing finish to the game.

Need a better O line and RB. Running sweeps with Smith is laughable. Speight also nedds to take a step forward.

I won't miss our three senior offensive line starters. Kalis was brutal, Magnusson was halfway decent, and Braden was marginal. We simply need more than that if 60% of our OL are seniors.

It's crazy to think all three of those guys were rated pretty high. I thought two years of Drevno we'd see big improvement. I think last year they improved in pass protection but not so much in the run game. This year they kind of stayed the same. I can't really say there was improvement anywere. The offensive lineman star ranking is kind of a crap shoot. UM kind of got a raw deal that none of those three 4* guys really panned out beyond marginal.

seemed to set the tone for the night.  Granted UM had already had a shaky offensive possession before that but that FG felt like a total oss.  First play is a total man ball play and UM doesn't even block the LB lined up a half yard behind the oline.  Voila...4 yd loss on a handoff to Smith.

Awful performance tonight.  Got crushed in pass protection.  Running backs had 28 rushing attempts for 88 yds and...40 of those yds came on 2 carries by Evans on the last drive.

Is Drevno actually a good OL coach? Were the Hoke OL recruits just that bad? This is what I'm going to be watching the most in the future. Blah....

We have three consecutive years that start a true freshmen OL. not a good sign at all. We may need to start 1 or 2 next year again. That means OL depth is in deep shit. OL is key in harbaugh 's system. We need 6-7 OL the next 2-3 classes. Need to build a wall. We will get there. but not in two years. Whenever, we don't need to start our true freshmen OL, we won't do good in offense.

Welp. I was a fan for most of the season. I'm not sure that he's the guy for next year. I guess we'll see. He bailed a lot on throws. Michigan proved, what we all knew, that Evans needed carries, and I think maybe we win the Ohio State game. You need game breakers in college football. It's a different game than the pros. You can break things. I was glad to see Evans get more run, but they will need to get more creative next year, and we need more from the QB postion than we got in this game. Francois was better than Speight, and it probably made the differentce in the game. Hit that Darboh touchdown earlier and we win. Tough loss. I think M will go 10-3 again next year. Go blue!

I don't know.  Francois was a whopping 9 for 27 with an awful pick 6.  Had some nice throws on the the first couple drives and then struggled in the passing game.  Made a nice throw on the winning TD but that was also as much about as his receiver making a nice play.

Our offense was just mediocre this year, speight is a middling but not great qb, o-line fell apart against top competition, backs and WRs were B+ but not enough to make up for other deficiencies.

I'll go ahead and say it: I'm ready for this OL to graduate. When they're needed most, they fold like a cheap suit.

They made the FSU defense look like the offspring of the '85 Bears and the Steelers Iron Curtain.

So Speight didn't have a good game. Yet he does things that we take for granted that are very good. That pass to Hill for the TD was outstanding. He has shown the ability to elude pressure. I remember Tom Brady struggling and everyone screaming for Henson. Young Qb's in pro style offenses take time. And going against a front like Florida st required solid o line and rb play and it wasn't there. He certainly wasn't accurate tonight, but given the injury and no jake butt, he struggled. Maybe peters beats him out, but there's enough good with Speight that UM can build on. If UM had dalvin cook, they probably win this game by 2 td's. But we just don't have that guy right now to relieve the constant pressure on our Qb no matter who we put on there.

Exactly. Yeah Speight could have done a couple things better but that just goes with the territory. We need a goddamned offensive line if we want to control the LOS. Without that, our QBs will always be not as good as they can be, and we'll have no run game when we really need it (like tonight - 15 TFL, need anyone say more???)

Speight has been mediocre against real competition this season. For every good throw, like the TD to Hill or the prior pass to Chesson, he has one or two really bad unforced errors, like the missed TD passes to Smith and Darboh. You don't win championships with a guy like that unless he makes up for it with his legs like Barrett.

The best news we could get this next spring or fall is that Peters has clearly passed Speight.

Wilton has a high QB IQ that enables him to keep plays alive way beyond his athletic ability.

He didn't finish by combining that with enough accurate throws tonight, but that doesn't mean he can't do it.  I think this was the most pressure he's ever been under, so of course there is a learning curve playing that quickly.

Most non dual-threat QBs would have been absolutely shut down by that pressure tonight.
