Nor was the deciding game 6 of the NBA finals believe it or not.  In 1980 CBS decided that running Dukes of Hazard & Dallas would generate higher ratings so they showed the game on tape delay later that night.

Of course this was pre-internet so avoiding the final score was pretty easy if you didnt live in Philly or LA at the time.

about how Bill Bonds blew it for those who watched the tape-delay in the Detroit market.

The USSR led 3-2 after 2 periods, and they had a commercial where Bonds previewed the upcoming 11 PM news.  Bonds said something on the order of "Huge Upset at the Olympics, USA beats Soviets in Ice Hockey, 4-3!  Highlights after the game."

Like others, I am enjoying USA hockey with my coffee, but during the last break, I added a nice plate of eggs and toast to the enjoyment, so I am set for a while now. This isn't a medal round, of course, but I have been enjoying the prospect of starting my weekend with hockey all the same.

Did anyone catch the USA-Sweden match in women's curling last night? Millimeters, man....millimeters, if that. That was close at the end.

Putin can't be too pleased with the Russian men's hockey team so far---having to go to a shootout twice in a row and being that far down in the seedings, going into the medal rounds, probably wasn't what he envisioned.  From what I read going into the games, he covets Hockey Gold more than any other medal.

I don't understand how the Canadians beat the US in womens curling. In the 11th end and tied 6-6, we had two stones in the house. Canada put their final stone into the 4 foot (I think) and scored a 7-6 win. I are confused.

The way I'm calculating it right now the Russians will either be the 4 or the 5 seed with Canada and Finland being the 1 and 4/5 seed respectively depending on their game outcome (assuming no OT).

USA will happily take being the 3 seed on the bottom half of the bracket and take Switzerland and Sweden over Russia/Canada/Finland.

I'm pretty sure you should be rooting for a regulation game with Canada-Finland. That way the winner gets the 1 the loser the 4. Russia locked up the 5 and will play Norway in the elimination game and then the 4 seed.

If USA is a 3 seed then you avoid Canada and Russia until the gold medal game which is clutch and well earned after yesterday's game.

I think I got that all right but if not someone correct me

Yeah, that's correct.  At first I was thinking Russia could be the 6th seed but now that they've beaten Slovakia that's not happening anymore.

Not that Sweden would be fun times in the 2/3 side of the bracket.  But now I'm pulling for Finland all the way, in regulation, so as to set up Canada/Russia in Canada's first game.

and had to think about it a few seconds before recalling what he meant.

What I noticed even more, though, was the lack of hats being thrown on the ice after the third goal.  It left me wondering, in light of all the security fears in Sochi, if throwing hats on the ice was expressly banned and  would have meant security swarming all over you.

Karma, it seems, has no expiration date as Lindsey Jacobellis has fallen again in Snowboardcross while comfortably ahead in a race and did not medal.

Probably the only American I can honestly say I dont root for after her failed trick attempt at the end of the 2006 Turin games cost her the gold.  She turned sure victory into defeat by attempting a meangless showboating move at the very end.   She reminds me of Leon Lett in the 93 Super Bowl.

Admit it, you had a bet with a buddy that the U.S. would win 10 gold medals in Turin and her showboating cost you your prized, Bernie Kosar, game-worn jersey from the '87 AFC championship game - hence your seemingly irrational disdain for the relatively harmless actions of a 20 y/o snowboarder?

LOL....no.  Perhaps a reflection of my age but I have distain for any athlete that instead of focusing on the game and alleged objective of winning choses to intensify the spotlight on themselves in their moment of glory.  It's why I don't much care for Terrell Owens, Chad "OchoCinco", Leon Lett, Lindsay Jocobellis and any of the other "look at me....LOOK AT ME" athletes.

And so when she fell, AGAIN, I wasn't bummed out for her.  Karma's a bitch.
