Open Thread: Hockey vs Vermont - Mel's first home game as head coach

Submitted by lhglrkwg on

Michigan and Vermont tonight at Yost. Mel's first (true) home game as head coach. Both teams are in the 'receiving votes' category of the rankings

Michigan dominating early but hasn't scored, which naturally means we'll be down 1-0 soon if I know anything about Michigan hockey

Anyone else watching?

Very good defensive showing which is so nice to see after the last 5 years or so. Offense struggled a lot but I think that's expected this year. Congrats to Mel on his first win in Yost

He was looking around the rink about an hour before the game, just wandering around the second level in the North endzone when I was in the area as well.  An usher turned around, saw Red, and said "I'm sorry, am I in your way?"  He answered, "I have no idea, this is all new to me."

Strange to think, but he had probably never just watched a hockey game there in his life.

This team just kicked the shit out of a bubble team and a team that beat them 3-0 a season ago.

Shots were 32-10 after 2 periods and the lead was 2-0 which seems to be an out of reach lead the way this team's discipline is.

It's amazing how different we look in just game 3. Josh Norris looked pretty dang good out there. He scores on the penalty shot and he has a hat trick in his first home game.

I'm liking it. But now comes a test, slamming the door and getting the weekend sweep.

Couldn't help but think what Mel could've done had his first season been 2015-16 and the CCM line would be under his guide.

Went to the game tonight...a few thoughts: -Quinn Hughes can really fly. Best skater on the ice tonight and looked really dangerous carrying the puck into the offensive zone. -Norris is going to score a lot of goals. -Lockwood is dangerously close to putting it all together.
