Any other campus. Its a character thing. This just grinds me .. esp. Sparty. I don't want to over react but if he goes I'd just move on. He doesn't seem all in to me. Its 2 weeks to NSD and he pulls this crap.

I trust our staff to make the best decision, but I'm with you personally.  He had visited MSU before unofficially, he knows enough about them.  To take an official this late in the process when an offer just came today suggests he was waiting for them to offer.  I would have no problem with the staff recinding his offer. I don't care how good he is, Michigan Football is bigger than one recruit.

Onwenu worked hard to earn this opportunity. If I were a big-time recruit, I would take all 5 of my official visits even if I were committed to a school. He only gets this opportunity once so why shouldn't he make the most of it?

The only problem I would have here is if he didn't talk to Michigan's coaches first. But I imagine he probably had a long conversation with them before going public with this.

Yes, completely. Taking all five visits should almost be considered mandatory if these guys have the chance to do this then they should, there will never be another chance to be recruited quite like this, unless they hit big time free agency and it looks like that is starting to go away in the NFL. It's not my favorite thing that he is choosing to visit the ass-jacks in EL this late in the process, but I'm not going to begrudge him this.

I feel like an OV, this late in the game, so close to home, has to mean the Spartans have a shot to flip him. I think we have a better chance of keeping him though, since he's been a commit for a good while.

The kid has talented feet for his size, he will be a freak in a college weight training & nutrition program.

MSU has been killing it in Detroit.  Sounding more and more like Onwenu and Hill end up at MSU.

This is setting up to be a real tough battle in 2017 when the state of Michigan has some real talent.  Michigan will have very little from the state coming in 2015 and 2016 classes while MSU has a whole pipeline....

Hoping that I'm wrong.

Compared to historic norms Michigan has done a very bad job at landing the elite in-state prospects in the last few classes.  What is a historic norm?  Probably getting at least 3 out of 5 elite in-state guys.

Maybe the recent struggles will turn around, but it's OK to acknowledge recent reality.  Here are the last 4 classes of Michigan elites.  What is an elite prospect? A guy who ranks highly (top 100ish) and/or get offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, or Alabama-caliber programs):

2016:  1 of 4 elite prospects (Onwenu, with Corley, Hayes, and Jordan fleeing)

2015: 1 of 2 elite (Cole - who, it should be noted, is fairly generous to identify as an elite, and Weber to OSU)

2014: 1 of 3 (Harris, with McDowell and Webb to our rivals)

2013: 0 of 1 (Elmer to ND)

You really have to go back to 2012 to see a year where Michigan was truly successful in-state (landing Ross, Richardson, and RJS all of whom had Alabama offers) and even then they lost Burbridge and O'Brein.

Yes, Michigan will always lose some guys to MSU (e.g., Lawrence Thomas, TJ Duckett) and outside schools like OSU or USC will snipe some kids (e.g., Nick Perry, Ronald Johnson, Jake Fisher) but Michigan should do a lot better than 3 out of 10 over the last 4 years.

Next year is a big year for in-state talent, as Michigan has recognized.  Peoples-Jones may end up the highest ranked prospect out of Michigan in quite some time.  Let's hope Chesson has a huge year and Harbaugh lands him.

Nothing to worry about at this point. He's taking a visit to enjoy the process. Mods on Rivals have spoken with him and still feel very confident in his commitment.

If he were visiting on a weekend with nothing going on (or worse, a Rutgers game) I'd be a lot more worried but they host Maryland this weekend, and who wouldn't take a free great seat to a top 25 matchup like that?

Makes sense Yinka Double Dare, provided he cleared it with or at least told the Coaches in advance.  Don't see the young man not ending up at Michigan. Michigan Coaching staff is pretty tough to beat right now and he already chose us.  Like others here, really want Michael Onwenu in the class and admit it would be a gut punch if he flipped.   Just don't see that happening because he went to E.L to be hosted to take in a good basketball game with some friends.  He is not spending much time and effort to get there either.

Before chicken little comes out of his cage, Onwenu just had his official to Michigan days ago and had an in-home with Harbaugh and Drevno. He was also quoted on rivals when asked about this news saying that he's just enjoying the process.

Bro, you need to chill. Hill isn't even committed to us. He has every right to go check out another school he is considering. Onwenu also has the right to take all his officials. Like others have said, he has friends at MSU and there's a big game that weekend. Onwenu has been to big games at Michigan as well. I'm sure he's good with blue.

Msu currently has about the same average recruit ranking on the composite. They are definitely having a good recruiting season. Not that I respect any of them, of course.

At the PC defense of these recruits on this site. Taking a visit this late, to the in-state rival is bullshit. He will more than likely still sign with Michigan but that does not make it right.
