One thing bugs me about this Urban Meyer situation...

Submitted by Occam's Razor on

Say the dude gets canned and Michigan beats them in the Shoe this year.

Does this W get DQ'd like the 2011 occasionally does by fans and haters alike?

100%. There is no "winning" for us now in their mind.

Just get ready for the "Harbaugh never beat Meyer" line for the next 20 years. They'll continue to be proud of their dishonored coach, just like Tressel.

I don't think this will have much of an effect on them this year though. I never thought Meyer was a great in-game coach. Great recruiter, great name/history, great coaching staff. They will still have the same roster this year they were going to, it'll still be a top 10 team... Unless the chaos of all of this gets in the players' heads.

If a team has a good program because they hire unsavory coaches that occasionally get fired in disgrace, and that causes them to go through a down year every so often, that's part of the bargain. No wins or losses should ever get "DQ'd".

The 2011 OSU team was set to be quite good until the tattoo scandal. Pryor was coming back for his senior year, along with Herron and Posey they were bringing back all their weapons from a Sugar Bowl winning team.

The impending suspension to Pryor made him bolt and go to the supplemental draft and Posey played only one game all season (vs us of course).

This year's OSU team will still be super talented. They have a QB who is a RS Soph who may actually be an upgrade at the position. They still have Dobbins, Hill, Campbell, et al.

There were a lot of other factors as to why OSU bombed in 2011 that weren't just due to Fickell being their coach

Well, I think there's a lot more about this story that should bug people, more important things than how any win would be viewed, but I am sure that, if this scenario were to pan out, it will be a thread here...

Yeah I think that will definitely be a narrative pushed by some people, "he couldn't beat Urban." And I think it will be annoying because it totally ignores the reason all this is going on. There's a culture of covering up domestic violence. There's probably more things we don't know about. The real story should be about how OSU has twice built an empire with unsavory coaches skirting the law. Instead it's easier for ESPN talking heads to just say "he never beat Urban"

I will admit to having the same thought.  From a pure fan perspective, I'd much prefer this all come to light after after Michigan beats down a Meyer-coached OSU in the 'shoe.  But the real-world concerns obviously trump that.

That said, OSU isn't going to can the guy if they can avoid it, even if they clearly should.

Yes in their eyes it probably gets DQ'd but by that token you'd have to DQ any wins against Rich Rod or Hoke

I am curious how the fans of other Big Ten schools are reacting to the Meyer story. UM's response will be discounted because OSU is a hated rival, but how about the others? It might offer insights into the culture of the different schools, or at least their football fans. Anybody have any news on this?
