Olympics - Day 6 SPOILERS

Submitted by born1ntheArbor on

Haven't seen this up yet. Spoil away folks.  I'm a huge badminton fan (probably because it's one of the few sports I'm good at), so this made me happy to see.  It was embarrassing to watch.

On a happier note, the men's all around finals are today. Danell Leyva's stepdad/coach is ALWAYS entertaining to watch on the "sidelines".

Three days after finishing fourth in the cycling road race, in today's time trial event, Taylor Phinney finished . . . fourth.  He's the only rider to finish in the top 5 in both events but has no medals to show for it.

but disappointed in USA archery in the individuals.  Especially after the team competition (USA men finished 2nd, upsetting heavy favorite South Korea (very heavy favorite, the 3 S. Korean archers qualified 1-2-3 for the individual rounds) before coming up 1 point short to Itlay in the finals.

All 3 USA men suffered some pretty big upsets in the first or second round of the individual competiton, including world #1, American Brady Ellison falling 7-1 to world #190 Taylor Worth of Austrailia.

1 American woman remains in the individual competition, world #24 Khatuna Lorig in the quarterfinals against world #6 China's Ming Cheng.

lose a set in the Olympics, for the first time, ever to Austrian's Schwaiger sisters.  Then rebound to absolutely dominate the second set and win relatively comfortably in the third.  Still undefeated in Olympic matches with a 17-21, 21-8, 15-10 win.  The Austrians started the first set on a 7-1 run and the Americans never quite recovered, though they came within two points a time or two.  Also, as a note, Kerri Walsh is playing with pink eye.  It didn't seem to really strongly affect her, Austria's success, especially in the first set came from serving Misty May, thus making her attack, rather than Walsh and deflecting most of those.  But it didn't seem to me like Kerri was quite the force at net she normally is, seeming just a tad off several times at the net, allowing kills when she normally blocks them.  If nothing else, it's something to keep an "eye" on, though I would still bet on them winning the gold.
