Ohio State - Oklahoma: Does anyone on this board pull for the Buckeyes?

Submitted by KennyHiggins on

I'm sure there will be a few that say that this early in the season all B1G victories against Top 10 opponents are positive for CFP positioning in November.  Not once in 50+ years have I ever pulled for OSU.  That won't change Saturday.  Love to see them fail, lose some recruiting battles, have some RB controversies, etc.

I'm sure there are nice people in Norman and throughout the state, but I have a hard time cheering for anything from such a culturally backward region.

If they're playing the Buckeyes that would change things.

but I'd rather them roll through the season undefeated and come into A2 ranked #1 and acclaimed as the best college football team in history. That will make beating them even sweeter.

Possible outcomes ranked from best to worst.  Only one truly bad one.

1) Ohio State humiliated.  Who cares what it does to our RPI, it's straight-up joyous to watch.

2) Ohio State loses in a regular way.  Not as much fun, but you know, still nice.

3) Ohio State wins in a regular way.  Not great, but at least it artificially puffs them up and sets them up for wonderful disappointment in late November.

4) Ohio State wins big.  This I can't stand.

Ohio State loses by 50, causing Urban to go on a sad pizza binge. He quickly reaches Mangino size and has to leave the team. Concurrently, the NCAA finds out that the entire team has been on the payroll and relegates them to late '80s SMU-land.

Yep, I don't like them very much.....

Pull for the Buckeyes? What kind of question is that? Really, I don't care who wins, but I will virtually never root for the Buckeyes. Especially given the last 10 years.

Now, I might make an exception if they were playing 'Bama. In some years or eras, there are teams that are insufferable, and good. ND was that at one time. So was USC. So were some of the SEC teams. But right now, I would never pull for the Buckeyes.

What I really want is a tight fought game, that exposes OSU weaknesses, and that forces OSU to do everything possible to win. There are sometimes formations or trickeration plays that you never want to expose . . . unless they are needed to win.

We're we going blow for blowfor the bucks year in and year or I would root for them because I want us both going into The Game undefeated. However, since we haven't been that fortunate lately I will take a loss for them whenever I can get it

I live in Oklahoma and hate, hate, hate the Sooner fans. However, I still want them to beat Ohio State because as much as I can't stand OU, I still hate them less than OSU.

An OSU win raises the conference profile and the stakes of The Game.  OU is likely going to win the Big 12.  If we win the B1G without beating OSU, but OU beats them, I don't want that to be the deciding factor in slotting OU over us and knocking us out of the CFP picture.  So I guess I worry that short term glee over OSU losing Saturday night could end up hurting us in three months.

against Miami for the national championship. ONLY because my moms best friend who was a Buckeye grad, and lifelong fan was on his deathbed just days before he lost his battle to cancer, and i sat next to him and watched the game.

I did however let him know the interference call was complete bullshit and the championship wasnt really legit.

I've got nothing against Oklahoma.  In fact I'd like to see them in the Big Ten to balance out east vs west.  So... No, I'll be rooting against OSU.

I will never want them to win under any circumstance. I can't stand them and can't even watch them. Last week I turned on their game because the Lions were in the second half of their meaningless preseason game. It was 14-13 when I turned it on and it caused some mild excitement. I noticed the game was in Indiana and foolishly thought, perhaps IU has a chance here. OSU proceeded to score 14 points in the next couple minutes and I turned it off immediately. I believe OU has zero chance to win this game. The Big12 is a crap conference in comparison to the B10 and OSU is on a different level than OU. I won't watch a second of it.

I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Back before electricity, I wanted, I wished, I prayed that the Buckeyes  lose every single game. But  a wise Wolverine fan set me straight, and ever since I have seen the light.

You should want them to be undefeated every year coming into The Game. This has nothing whatsoever to do with "loyalty" to the B1G.  My only loyalty is to the Woverines.  I want them undefeated when we meet them in November, because it makes the win that much more impressive, and watching them dragging their sorry @sses back to Columbus in tears all the sweeter.

Screw OSU.  Cheaters do prosper, which is unfortunate since they deserve a winning drought more than anyone outside of Baylor, Penn State, and probably ND.

Go back and watch the UM-OSU game from last year and tell me how you can give 2 shits about this conference after the officiating travesty that robbed the better team of a win last year.

Any conference that allows such a blatantly one-sided officiated game to take place, and then comes back months later and says.."nothing to see here, was all good"...can go to hell.  I don't give a shit about the B1G or any of its teams' successes outside of UM.

Just want the conference to be good enough that if when we win it, (even as a 1 loss team), we go to the playoff.  The rest of the teams and the conference as a whole can go to hell.

Our biggest challenge over the next 1 - 5 years is catching and surpassing OSU.  That is hard to do if they remain an extremely dominant team.  We need to start beating them, if not this year, then very soon, otherwise closing the gap will become even more difficult.  Any indication they are not as good as advertised is good news.  Simply put, an extremely dominant OSU is not good for us, recruiting or otherwise.

I'm not so emotional as to be stupid.

As long as there are 5 P5 conferences + Notre Dame, and only 4 CFP slots, I am rooting for all Big Ten teams out of conference.

We have to beat Ohio State anyway, might as well make it count for something.

An OSU win helps our strength of schedule when we beat them, and it hurts the Big 12's SOS, expecially if OU is the champion or is the team the champion beats..

Double win.

We'll take care of Ohio State ourselves.

We won't need OSU to win this game for a victory over the buckeyes to mean something later in the season. If we win our or even go 11-1, we'll likely be in the CFP regardless of how OSU performs in this matchup with OK.

I'm hoping for an OSU loss so that I can feel at ease if we happen to lose to the Buckeyes that they may possibly not make the CFP with a OK loss + 1 more loss along the way.

So really it just comes down to "the enemy you know" vs. "the one you don't." If OSU were to play Alabama, ND or some place like that, I might not look unkindly upon them. Hell, I *will* pull for them against PSU this year, because what that program did--and how much of its fanbase continues to see themselves as the victims--is unforgivable.

In this case, since I have no serious bad feelings toward Oklahoma, BOOMER SOONER.

I've pulled for tOSU in bowl games. I really only root against them when they are playing another team I kind of like (Wisconsin, Oregon, N'W). Michigan's self-interest probably aligns with Ohio winning this game.

No. Never. I don't pull for any team other than Michigan, and as far as I am concerned the rest of the BIG TEN can collectively get syphilis. I realize that makes me sound like an ignorant asshole, but I don't care. I have lived in Ohio as a Michigan fan my entire life. So I am entitled to be an indignant son of a bitch.
