MGOBAND is that way >>>>>

It would be like me creating a thread, "Michigan State's cheerleaders are better than ours." Also, Ohio's band and your opinion of them is "OT". thx.

This needs to be addressed and dealt with. I want to be better tan ohio in EVERYTHING and that includes Marching Band.

nice touch.

In my ranking of things that I could give a shit if OSU beats us at, this ranks right between a chutes and ladder tournament and a 90's boy band karaoke contest.

Because, like the NFL doesn't need crap like that, do they? They'd just hire Kanye or Taylor Swift to do a halftime show, right?
What we need are college playoffs, a collegiate super bowl, and maybe some preseason games.
What's the spread on next week's game?
There is a portion of the self-professed Michigan fan base that is really frightening.

As Section 1 is implying, our band is a crucial part of game day, and our rivalries extend beyond a football or basketball game alone. The great rivalries are university-wide. This is part of what makes college athletics far more compelling (at least to many of us) than the pros.

My buddies and I did a mean "Bye bye bye" by NSYNC for a charity karoke night a few weeks ago. Had the dance down and everything.

but I think this is pretty well done.
October 27th, 2013 at 12:05 PM ^
That was a helluva halftime show. However, a "school" can do this when they don't have an academic program and their marching band members can be made to drill all week North Korea style. Seriously, there's no other way to explain the practice time..
October 27th, 2013 at 12:45 PM ^
If you think that the OSU band members are on the Cardale Jones academic track, you're letting your homerism get the best of you.
October 28th, 2013 at 10:02 AM ^
OSU is not as good of a school as Michigan, but they still have plenty of top 20 academic programs. It's a solid academic institution.
October 27th, 2013 at 12:07 PM ^
First, the OSU Marching Band is very good and very loud; it is all brass and drums, with no woodwinds (see, MMB, a very fine "concert" band).
Second, they are marching. No video-board skits.
Third, keep it simple. It is an eight-minute show. Some popular music, some simple image concepts, done very elegantly, with impressive motion. That's the wonder of marching bands.
It was a nice halftime show, for sure. Lessons to be learned for Michigan.
Don't you love it, that in the middle of their big night game with Penn State, the band is highlighting their rivalry with Michigan? I am trying to imagine what the Penn Staters felt like. Chopped liver, probably.
October 28th, 2013 at 6:46 AM ^
I am trying to imagine what the Penn Staters felt like. Chopped liver, probably. The PSU fans might have felt slighted by the Ohio halftime show, but I have to believe they were more dismayed by the 42-7 score. Let's not act like the MMB hasn't put together halftime shows that call attention to our disdain of our rivals when we're not playing them that particular game. In fact, I would think it would be considered bad form to have a stadium that is 20% of say Sparty fans and then have the band come out at halftime and do some kind of faux homage to "Little Brother" or whatever.
October 27th, 2013 at 12:28 PM ^
Not sure why people are hating on this video. College Marching Bands are one of the great traditions of college football. This is a great performance and a pretty entertaining looking halftime show
October 27th, 2013 at 1:28 PM ^
This was a great college halftime show. It is the essence of college football. I don't care that it was OSU that did it.
When colleges stop doing these kind of things that are the DNA of college football and move toward whatever fad the Pros are chasing, we will all be worse off.
October 28th, 2013 at 11:10 AM ^
than any Super Bowl halftime show. It was unique to college football in that it is not something you will see anywhere else, it was well done, and hit the rivalry. And i am fine if this lights a fire under Michigan to get more creative and better.
October 28th, 2013 at 10:32 AM ^
I wish that the broadcasters would go back to showing the halftime shows because honestly I could care less whether the SEC is the best conference in the nation or the world. I guess that's one of the nice things about actually going to the game. I don't have to listen to Lou Holtz prattle on about whatever his pet peeve of the day is. Fortunately, I think Terry Bowden has been relegated to some TV backwater.
October 28th, 2013 at 11:18 AM ^
Um, you're kind of right about Bowden. He's the Head Football coach for Akron. You know, that team that almost beat us.
October 28th, 2013 at 11:58 AM ^
Well at least he's out of broadcasting....
October 27th, 2013 at 12:30 PM ^
As much as it pains me to say, that was actually pretty cool. I think I liked the superman coming out of the phone booth the best.
October 27th, 2013 at 6:28 PM ^
Superman does not have the logo on his cape. He wears it on his chest.

Yeah, phazing in the lines and intonation that is out of wack really makes a quality band. I have figuratively seen better high school bands, especially at BOA's.
October 27th, 2013 at 12:47 PM ^
Does this mean you haven't literally seen better high school bands?
October 27th, 2013 at 1:43 PM ^
I really find it annoying when people use the word literaly. It is my pet peeve.
October 28th, 2013 at 11:12 AM ^
or just when used correctly? Cause this would be a case to use it correctly.

Only thing that would have made it better was if it was a Velociraptor instead of a T-Rex.

They turned themselves into a 53 yard tall Michael Jackson and moonwalked down the field last week.
October 27th, 2013 at 1:47 PM ^
So? We had two 53 feet stick figures have sex on the field last week. Well, it was implied as the girl stick figure took off her skirt after the stick figure wedding as the band was playing the Black Eye Peas' "It's going to be a good night."
October 27th, 2013 at 4:47 PM ^
I saw that and after watching this show I have to assume that OSU must have a software program that is helping create these shows. It is pretty impressive to watch the band play and move in really complicated patterns such as this and I'd really like to know more about how they go about it. Obviously I'm partial to the MMB, but you've gotta give those kids credit.
October 27th, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
All marching band drill design these days is done with software.
October 27th, 2013 at 8:34 PM ^
As I know nothing about it, are there different software packages or mostly one common one that people use?
October 27th, 2013 at 8:52 PM ^
Yeah, there are a few. I'm not too well versed in it, but I think Michigan used VDrill when I was in school.
There's all sorts of fancy 3D ones now, too, I guess.
