How is that ejection "crap?" He threw the elbow with intent. I don't think Douglass was doing anything other defenders don't do. The elbow came up, he meant to catch the kid in the neck or face, so he should be tossed. Read: Manny Harris earlier in the year. In Manny's case it was unintentional, not out of frustration, and generally reasonable except the guy was up in his face.

There are many ways to get away from a guy who's holding your jersey. Elbowing him in the chops isn't one of them. He's lucky it's not an auto-suspension. Completely legit ejection.

Hey, it burned us twice this season (one time legitimately, it can be said). It's just coming back for us now; and this is a great time to have some good karma.
He waited for the back screen to be set up then wound up and threw an elbow to the head. Completely understandable ejection.
It may be a "crap" penalty - that is open for debate depending on intent and damage - but it was the right call.

The first few times I saw it I actually thought he shouldn't have been ejected. Watching it again when they came back from commercial and it was clear he brought the elbow up, pulled it back and aimed straight for the head. Absolutely the right call.
I don't think the intentional foul call was bad, but the ejection seems a bit much. Anyone that has played basketball has certainly done as much as what Oglesby did, especially when being held while trying to cut.

that's what happened with Manny. If you recklessly swing an elbow with contact and it's ruled an intentional foul, then it's an automatic ejection.
Or at least that's how I understood it.
Being as Oglesby was sucking very very hard at doing the one thing he's out on the court to do and normally does very well, I'm not convinced Clemson actually missed him.
But still. Legit ejection. Jay Bilas is probably going to scream at the TV when he sees it. Or not.

I thought it was definitely an intentional foul, but I wouldn't have ejected him. I think ejections need to be reserved for really over-the-top stuff.

Why was it just an intentional foul as opposed to a flagrant like they gave Manny? I understand that there was ultimately no difference. I am a football guy and only played organized bball for fun, not out of passion. I don't know the rules that well, so what is the difference then?

...and had no clue what happened until my buddy who was watching at home texted me and told me about the play. I turned to the guy next to me to ask him if he'd seen it and he said he thought it was a shove.
Now that I've heard all about it, does anyone know if there's video of the play yet on the web? I'm not sure if ESPN will show that as a highlight later on (not sure if they want to highlight a play perpetrated by what sounds like a thug)

It was a soft and harmless elbow, but rules are rules.
I mean, you could call it "crap" in that the even that precipitated it was an uncalled foul on Douglass, and you can also argue that it was "harsh", but it was strictly following the rules: elbowing someone in the head is illegal, and Oglesby elbowed somebody in the head. I understand, personally, why the NCAA throws people out for this without considering intent - having kids get hit in the face with elbows is an unequivocably bad thing - maybe if it's punished harshly, they'll be careful.
