It was looking ok until Denard went out and our defense decided to implode and Bellomy couldn't make a throw to save his life.  Commence the bitching.  Oh, and the refs where all around the worst I've seen this year both ways.  Whisky time....

As bad as the big ten is, I still expected one loss so there it is.  No more allowed.

Obvious things...

Denard injury equals game over...anyone who thought Denard wasn't our best choice at QB received their answer tonight.

DG is the starter next year.

We really need Treadwell in this class.

I was only half watching after some point but it seemed like we gave up a bit?

2008 sucked.

But if we win out and Nebraska craps a game away, we go to Indy. So let's lick our wounds and take care of business the rest of the way. It's 3 softies and then beat Ohio.

I dont know what to say more than that.  I cannot believe that they would continue to go with Bellomy.  Poor kid was thrown to the wolves.

Well it did not even look good as Denard ran to the locker room after the game.  His arm was limp.  I am scared guys, i am scared.  "Hold me Richard!"

Our offense =Denard trying to do stuff that is good while the coaching staff is busy screwing everything up. Without him, it is just the coaching staff screwing everything up with an assist from our obviously in over his head and not very talented backup QB. He is probably a nice young man though.

I had more confidence in Sheridan.

And next year is going to be TERRIBLE.

No.  I am not.  Asserting that someone who makes the choice to do something (play football for a major program) with full knowledge that doing so will put him on national tv and subject him to high levels of criticism and scrutiny for his play is "in over his head" (in other words, is not ready to play) or "not very talented" (in other words, may not be good enough to play at this level) is 100% fair game and does not make me (or anyone) "a douche."  Personal attacks or unfair insults are not cool, I agree.  Fans cross the line all the time and it is not okay.  But these are simple observations about the game itself that happen to be true (or at least appear to be true as of today).

Worst Oline you've ever seen? Do you even watch the game? The pass protection in the first half was excellent. Denard had ALL day to throw the ball. The problem was Nebraska KNEW Bellomy had nothing, and they were bringing the house. Borges play calling didn't help much. It had nothing to do with the Oline. If Denard can't go Devin needs to start getting reps in practice at QB bottom line. Bellomy is not a division 1 capable QB at this point bottom line. But, lets not give up hope. Nebraska will not win out, and we still have a chance at a Big 10 title game bid.

Without Toussaint being able to perform like last year, our offense is one-dimensional.

Denard all the time. Remember Toussaint got 1000+ yard last year. He doesn't have it this year.

It reminds me of the offense 2 years ago, where defenses realize that if you blitz Denard it's game over.

Toussaint got 138 yards against Nebraska last year.

What in the fuckity fuck happened to Fitz? I have never seen a more dramatic regression than him...he just doesn't have it this year. At all. Not even a little. He's making all the wrong moves and not pushing forward with his runs. It's not all the oline, some of it is just poor running. Bellomy never had a chance today.

Michigan's offense going into the fetal postion after Denard went down or Notre Dame housing Oklahoma? Honestly, for me it's a toos up.

At least the defense was solid, particularly considering how little offensive output there was post-Denard.

Any other positive takeaways?

How has our offense regressed so much from both last year, and the past three or four games? From Fitz not being able to move, to Rawls not coming in more and developing, from Denard's passing (and Borges' play calling for Denard) to Denard's inability to consistently run like has. It seems like he's floundering, trying to find an identity in this offense (even though he already had one).

I don't know if we've regressed so much as that we just aren't that talented. David Molk was the best center in the country; Junior Hemingway, time and again, came up big for us in the passing game; and Kevin Koger was a versatile TE who could both block and receive (unike our current group of TEs). We haven't been able to replace them. We have paper-thin depth across the board and, aside from Denard, not a whole lot of game-breaking talents.

you mean DOOM?

Because they definitely tried, but were woefully unable to do anything. The D tried pretty damn hard, but eventually succombed to an honestly good O that was on the field for pretty much teh entire 2nd half. And losing your all-star only-viable-option at QB on an innocent tackle/fall seems more like DOOM than anything about not trying hard enough. The universe was conspiring against M today.

Didnt have major issue with defense.  That part of the game is part emotion.  When you see you have no chance on offense you are going to mentally sag by nature.  You play 95% rather than 100% even if subconsciously and you get beat on defense.  Remember our defense was not considered a strength coming into the year - all the playmakers on the line were gone, and we lost our best CB in game 1.  They have overachieved and I wont complain about them any game.  They will need to carry the team next year as we have either frosh Shane or Bellomy starting all year (gulp).

I really hope hope denard doesn't have a ulnar nerve injury, I have had surgery to move my ulnar nerve in both arms and I can tell all of you he will not be back this year if this is the case, Please have compasion for the kid.
