Official Snowflake Thread: Offense
Per statements last week, this will be the official snowflake thread for thoughts regarding the offensive playcalling / coaching. There will also be a similar thread for defense. Special teams and coaching snowflake threads can be created as needed by volume, but this thread will be primarily for thoughts on the offensive performance.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth here bro. You are correct, they aren't true freshman... they are redshirt freshman.
Give it time. You can't judge Funk this year with a lot of precision.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:24 AM ^
Take a look at what Coach Frey did with two true freshmen 3 star guys at Indiana last year. If Coach Funk's name was Gibson, would we really be giving him a four year pass? If you cannot judge a coach by how his players play under him, why does anyone ever get hired or fired? Why do coaches move up the ranks, or get demoted? Hoke's a great recruiter, great for the program, love Coach Mattison, but I cannot see how someone can rationally defend the work Funk has done with the OL over the past two and a half years (and would suggest that we really need four or more years to really find out whether he can teach linemen how to pull).
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:37 AM ^
OL recruiting is probably the most uncertain out of all positions.
Funk's been behind the 8 ball probably more than any other coach. He just got lucky he had a healthy David Molk.
I'm hoping they shake up the line and it works, I'm not sure what else the guy can do.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:51 AM ^
That's not talking out of both sides of my mouth. My point was that they're not true freshman - these guys have been in the system now for 2 years, so inexperience shouldn't be the excuse. And don't call me bro, bro.

DAVID FROM WYOMING, you are the most insufferable poster on this board. You never express an opinion of your own, only mock and make snide remarks about the opinions of others. Please go away.

with firing anyone at this point, but I don't think the o-line struggles can be simply excused by the experience card. I was expecting the o-line to have some growing pains early on (mostly against ND), but at some point when your facing inferior teams you should be able to control the game better based on raw talent.
The o-line has not shown improvement game to game. In fact, I would argue it has regressed the last two games. That is the part that is hard to excuse.

We did in the first half.

Most people were saying we were a 9-7 win team before we had played any games this season....

depending on who the 3 losses are, 9-3 can be a disaster of a season too.
if this is the last year for the forseeable future that the expectation floor is below double digit wins, i guess i'm okay with it.
but 9-3 every year isn't where i'm hoping this team ends up.

UConn's overrated chant is compeltely correct. This team should not be ranked. Akron by 4 and UConn by 3? What an embarassment. And Lewan? You can shut it with your Tebow speeches. This team deserves to have their wings removed, though I doubt Brady could show enough emotion to do so. We'll be lucky to get five wins in the B10.

Herbie and Musberger giving GERG a verbal blowjob on ABC right now. What a night.

In GERG's defense, his hair looks pretty fabulous.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:32 PM ^
Still 4-0. Offense struggled, but they did enough at the end. I worry that the offense is regressing to Devin-heavy runs, but a win is still a win. I also think this offense was a couple of plays from blowing out UConn.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:33 PM ^
Get your head out of your ass you homer. They beat AKRON on a goal line stand and snuck by the second worst team in FBS tonight. This team is NOT GOOD.

September 21st, 2013 at 11:41 PM ^
I agree. I think his injury really hurts us, removing an additional weapon. Gardner has no confidence in anyone that's not Gallon, and that hurts the whole offense.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:21 AM ^
Devin had an on the money long ball to Chesson tonight and Jehu slows down while the ball is in the air. They'll improve their timing over the season, I'm sure (I hope).

I thnk people don't realize how windy it was. Wile was booming them out of the endzone with the wind on kickoffs. I think the ball floated on Chesson on that one, and on the one that got picked going the other way, it died and dropped back into the defender.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:32 PM ^
Just pathetic. That's all there really is to say. Borges hasn't changed. One game against Notre Dame doesn't change that. Gardner no longer trusts himself. The O-line is terrible. Toussaint still dances in the backfield.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:34 PM ^
Fitz did okay. 5 ypc isn't great but an upgrade. The line remains a mess; I suspect these two weeks will show major changes.
September 22nd, 2013 at 8:49 AM ^
Chris Perry's 1674 yds in 2003 is the fifth-best season for rushing yardage in UM history. He averaged 4.95 yards per carry. That was good enough to help propel Michigan to its last conference championship.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:36 PM ^
Fitz followed his blocks and several plays in the 4th quarter. It was outstanding, and the blocks were quite good.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:41 PM ^
I'm all aboard the panic train, but I don't think Touissant deserves blame. He was very good today and by far our best offensive player.
the rest is pretty much what I am feeling though.
EDIT: You know you are slow when you get double ninja'ed
September 21st, 2013 at 11:57 PM ^
No one tells me anything anymore.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:19 AM ^
Touissant for anything on a night when he finishes with 5 ypc, despite poor blocking for most of the game. That long td run looked like the Fitz we saw two years ago. It's pretty hard to hit the hole quickly, when guys are in the backfield and their is no hole.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:01 AM ^
It's hard to blame the OC when his QB has no confidence and runs when his first read (Gallon) is covered every time. They've gotta get a hold on whatever is going on with Gardner, he's reminding me of Rex Grossman, where if he makes one mistake, he's bound to make 2-3 more. That's all mental, and they gotta work it out.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:07 AM ^
The same Rex Grossman that was a starter in the Superbowl? Yeah, I'll take that.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:23 AM ^
You can keep Grossman. I don't want him. I was one of the Brian Griese voices that season, all season.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:25 AM ^
it was the bears offense that got them to the super bowl.

as I hate Spielman, there was one replay where they showed the WRs open deep downfield ona scramb;e that turned into nothing for Gardner. As much as I wanted to punch them everytime they said he was playing tight...there were open receivers downfield. Gardner just didn't see or hit them in the 1st half.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:32 PM ^
My comment: Everything I said last week after the Akron game, but replace AKron with UConn. Unfortunately other than DL no real difference. Devin sigh. Cannot turn over the ball like this - why he has not learned from last week... boggling.
September 22nd, 2013 at 12:00 AM ^
I wonder if Taylor is just going to replay the speech from last week? Oh well, super close to bowl eligible! yay? Is it time for the dreaded "we play down to our competition" line?
September 21st, 2013 at 11:33 PM ^
bye week. Glasgow shifts over to center and Bryant in at LG. Miller just does not look good. Also, our offense makes me go, "WTF," way too often.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:33 PM ^
They don't work. Why does Borges keep calling them?
September 21st, 2013 at 11:37 PM ^
They worked quite well at the end of the game
September 21st, 2013 at 11:39 PM ^
Stretch left worked a lot in the 4th quarter. Tired D or not, I wouldn't give up on that just yet. Stretch right? Yea, fuck it.
September 21st, 2013 at 11:52 PM ^
That was our best running play most of the night.
