Official Snowflake Thread: Offense

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Per statements last week, this will be the official snowflake thread for thoughts regarding the offensive playcalling / coaching. There will also be a similar thread for defense. Special teams and coaching snowflake threads can be created as needed by volume, but this thread will be primarily for thoughts on the offensive performance.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth here bro. You are correct, they aren't true freshman... they are redshirt freshman.

Give it time. You can't judge Funk this year with a lot of precision.

Take a look at what Coach Frey did with two true freshmen 3 star guys at Indiana last year.  If Coach Funk's name was Gibson, would we really be giving him a four year pass?  If you cannot judge a coach by how his players play under him, why does anyone ever get hired or fired?  Why do coaches move up the ranks, or get demoted?  Hoke's a great recruiter, great for the program, love Coach Mattison, but I cannot see how someone can rationally defend the work Funk has done with the OL over the past two and a half years (and would suggest that we really need four or more years to really find out whether he can teach linemen how to pull).

with firing anyone at this point, but I don't think the o-line struggles can be simply excused by the experience card. I was expecting the o-line to have some growing pains early on (mostly against ND), but at some point when your facing inferior teams you should be able to control the game better based on raw talent.

The o-line has not shown improvement game to game. In fact, I would argue it has regressed the last two games. That is the part that is hard to excuse.

depending on who the 3 losses are, 9-3 can be a disaster of a season too.

if this is the last year for the forseeable future that the expectation floor is below double digit wins, i guess i'm okay with it.

but 9-3 every year isn't where i'm hoping this team ends up.

UConn's overrated chant is compeltely correct.  This team should not be ranked.  Akron by 4 and UConn by 3?  What an embarassment.  And Lewan?  You can shut it with your Tebow speeches.  This team deserves to have their wings removed, though I doubt Brady could show enough emotion to do so.  We'll be lucky to get five wins in the B10.

Still 4-0.  Offense struggled, but they did enough at the end.  I worry that the offense is regressing to Devin-heavy runs, but a win is still a win.  I also think this offense was a couple of plays from blowing out UConn.

I thnk people don't realize how windy it was. Wile was booming them out of the endzone with the wind on kickoffs. I think the ball floated on Chesson on that one, and on the one that got picked going the other way, it died and dropped back into the defender.

Just pathetic. That's all there really is to say. Borges hasn't changed. One game against Notre Dame doesn't change that. Gardner no longer trusts himself. The O-line is terrible. Toussaint still dances in the backfield.

It's hard to blame the OC when his QB has no confidence and runs when his first read (Gallon) is covered every time. They've gotta get a hold on whatever is going on with Gardner, he's reminding me of Rex Grossman, where if he makes one mistake, he's bound to make 2-3 more. That's all mental, and they gotta work it out.

My comment: Everything I said last week after the Akron game, but replace AKron with UConn.  Unfortunately other than DL no real difference.  Devin sigh.  Cannot turn over the ball like this - why he has not learned from last week... boggling.
