Official: Friday Night Adult Beverage thread and 'Sam's Club or Costco' Poll

Submitted by xtramelanin on April 27th, 2018 at 6:17 PM

I don't know about you, but this wasn't my favorite week.  I'm such a slacker I didn't even get my manure spread (maybe tomorrow).  I will be having an adult beverage this evening, almost certainly red pop of one fashion or another.

Also, in our area there is a Sam's Club and recently a Costco opened up.  I've been a Sam's Club member for years and years, and they do good with what they are supposed to.  I've been to Costco in other areas, albeit infrequently.   Seems okay but I can't think of a reason to switch.

So for tonight, two questions:

1.  What's in your cup?

2.  Sam's Club or Costco, and why?  Is there really any significant difference?

I hope you have a great weekend

by us.  possum are foul creatures.  i gave a bunch of them shovel ready jobs when the weather warmed for a bit a month or so ago, they were trying to get in the hen house.   getting about one a night.  no more possum problems....

1. Weed.

Last day of the semester. The Yankees are playing Trout, Ohtani and the Angels tomorrow afternoon and I've already got a big steak ready in the frig. Lots of grading otherwise but still that much closer to the finish line.

amazon doesn't sell produce, and we don't grow enough to carry through the whole year.  we make some of our own cereal with our grain, but we mix it up with large packages of regular cereal.  same with bread, soap, etc.  so color inside the lines and give me an answer...

patronizing me.  if serious, the main method is to be blessed with an exceptional mgobride/spouse and a larger than average number of children and to homeschool them most of their years before college, then co-op with the local gov't or Christian school until it's time for them to go to college.

depending on the year and season, cattle, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens (by the hundreds), crops, dairy and eggs from the farm.  i am too busy to do much selling, but we generate enough $ to basically pay the property taxes and eat those main things for, in effect, free. I have not made it a priority to set up a website or use my other contacts to push products.  i'm pretty sure i could get a pipeline into the local organic markets and the 'local food' trend up here.  we have no pesticides/herbicides/fertizlier/vaccines on the farm.  all the live stock is pastured, virtually no grain.

i have taught the children how to slaughter and butcher, and we have a friend who has a USDA facility so we can use his stuff to package it all.

Sam’s isn’t “trash” but it doesn’t come close to Costco. I got a little excited.

Samples, prices, selection and having a very very good in house brand (Kirkland) are what sets Costco apart.

Edit: as someone said below, they also treat their employees really well, which as a customer, does mean a lot!

Lots of outlets use private labels, Costco just does it better. Check out their Crown Royal and Grey Goose knockoffs, they are virtually indistinguishable from the target product. (I have conducted blind taste tests with myself. Results may have been inconclusive). That, plus the way they treat their people, has me sold. Also, fuck Sam Walton and his evil empire.

I don't know a single person that goes to Sam's Club.  It's Costco for the peer pressure alone.  And with all the samples, it's always a full, free meal every visit.  For the things I care about (I have enough TVs) Kirkland gin is a pretty good deal, and the Bourbon ain't bad either.  Not a fan of their Wodka.  Wine selection is usually very good too.

I have not started the adult beveraging for today, but whoa is it coming soon.  Feel free to start without me.

Fireball and Coke.

Costco all the way. They may not have as many name brand products, but the quality of many of the Kirkland brand items is outstanding for the price you pay. Plus they have the best $10 pizza in the country AND treat their employees great.

I believe you can get liquor and prescriptions at Costco without a membership. So tell the greeter/ ID checker at the door you are going to the pharmacy and wander around to see if you like what they offer.

Then, when you like what you see, get a membership and buy a 3-pack of cinnamon loaves. Have one at Sunday breakfast and freeze the other two.  They last for months and are still delicious.

Oh, and Moscow Mules.
