Official Brady Hoke Thank You Posbang

Submitted by Black Socks on

Regardless of what happens to Brady Hoke, it cannot be denied that he loves Michigan and gave 100%.  I speak for MGoBlog when I wish him the best of luck in the future, wherever he is.  Let's get some posbang mojo going here.

Thanks for your commitment to M coach Hoke.

It sucks that he sucked at his dream job. Wish him the best in the future. If he doesnt want to coach again I could see him stay with the athletic department in some capacity, now or in the future.

Thank you coach Hoke for giving this job everything you had in you. I know for a fact no one wanted this to work out more than you did and it's a shame that didn't happen. Thank you for dedicating 4 years of your life to this program and for teaching our student athletes how to become better men on and off the field. I've been a huge supporter of yours since the start but perhaps it is time we go our separate ways. I wish you nothing but the best in all of your future endeavors.

I can't blame Brady at this point as much as I have been the last couple years.

He shouldn't have been offered the job to begin with. That is Dave Brandon's fault for no one else wanting to work for him.

It's a shame that things went downhill after that 11-2 season where everyone was walking on cloud nine.

I do thank him for his recruiting ability and I believe the next coach will have a lot to work with.

I would thank him for delivering Big Ten championships, which he bluntly stated was the goal. But alas, none of those ever materialized with him as Michigan's coach.

Obviously Brady Hoke didn't have the coaching acumen to win at Michigan, but his (apparent) success with recruiting should be huge for us moving forward. With a pretty much stocked cupboard of soon-to-be upperclassmen and promising younger guys, Hoke will have left behind a solid foundation for a new staff to build upon. For this, I think Brady deserves a lot of credit, as it should substantially mitigate the growing pains of bringing in a new staff.

Maybe I'm overly enthused, but all the talent on the team could, IMO, be the difference between a new staff reaching 10 wins right from the get go, versus 6-8 if they inherited a gutted roster with numerous, glaring weaknesses. (This is, of course, under the assumption that coaching/player development vastly improves.)

Thanks for putting your heart and soul into something we all love. You tried your best and that's all we can ask. It didn't work but I hope that you regroup and use the lessons learned to find success in the future. BTW, I'm sorry for all those things I said about you and your family over the many Saturdays. Especially at the ND game this year. I was all pissed off from the get go because I was sitting next to Rosenhack. Good luck to you.

Thanks for trying and for being a good man. You were in over your head but it wasn't all your fault. For what it's worth you did kind of bring back a defensive mentally and hopefully that carries over and continues to develop without the third down problems. Good luck coach Hoke.

Thanks for keeping recruiting up and leaving a mostly full cupboard for the next guy.  Thank you for starting all your answers with "Well" and thanks for your devotion to the program.

Good luck wherever you ended being an assistant at.

Fine. He's a nice guy. He also ruined Michigan football for me. I don't get excited thinking about upcoming games. I hardly care whether they win or lose because it has no meaning. It didn't have to be this way but he's so arrogantly stubborn about doing things the "old fashioned way" (even though he doesn't seem to realize what that even is sometimes). There are many nice people in this world who get fired for being terrible at their jobs and they won't walk away with millions of dollars in severance. So whatever. Thanks Brady for being a nice guy.

Hoke didn't ruin Michigan football. He had two bad back to back seasons. Had those seasons not come after a 6-year period of other bad seasons (minus 2011), the angst and malaise wouldn't be so bad and we wouldn't have people saying how little they care about Michigan football. The problem is that the fans are sick and tired of this crappy slide that our program is on (starting in LC's last season, spanning the entire RR tenure and resuming in Hoke's last two years). We just want our old, good, Michigan football program back. We have essentially become lions fans, looking towards next year by game 3.

As to Hoke being stubborn about running old school football, that's a silly criticism. When you hire Brady Hoke (and likely instruct him to get us back to our roots), you know what you are getting. He told us as much in his opening press conference. No different than RichRod coming in and running the spread from day 1. This isn't stubborn. - it's what he does. Neither can be truly faulted for running exactly what they were expected to run when they were hired. (note: personally, I think that a great coach shows more adaptability to their personnel, but that only means that neither is truly great - doesn't make them stubborn).

At the end, I expect that we both agree that Hoke should be fired today. He didn't do a good job at winning and that's what matters. But, let's not attack the guy for being exactly what we all expected him to be when he was hired.

and you raise some excellent points. However, while we shouldn't necessarily be attacking him for doing exactly what he was hired to do, we should probably lay off the verbal bj's some people in this thread are tossing his way simply because he's nice.

I think this search will be much better than the last simply because there doesn't appear to be any clear division like the last time. Everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction and sharing in the mindset that the next coach can run whatever system they want as long as they win some damn games. Hopefully it's everyone's clear #1 choice, but if not I'm confident that the next coach will find a fanbase eager to support him at every turn and a roster with most of the pieces in place to do some damage.

I basically agree with your first paragraph but to say "we knew what we were getting so we shouldn't be mad" is ridiculous. Hoke was given all the resources he needed to succeed. I don't want to attack the guy or smear him but going the opposite way and having a thread to say how much we appreciate his service is completely asinine. He was given an opportunity he never earned thanks to an extremely incompetent AD and he did exactly what you could expect him to do with it. So forgive me for not wanting to show any appreciation.

I am actually with you that this whole thread is silly. First, because he hasn't been fired yet. It would be hysterical to see how many of the posters writing "thanks Brady, I will root for you wherever you go in life" absolutely lose their shit and post how they will no longer follow Michigan football in the unlikely event that Hackett's pressers tomorrow end up not resulting in a firing. Also, I agree as a general matter that these types of threads are silly (but that hasn't stopped either of us from logging in ad posting).

I don't think I could agree with you any more than I already do. Why are we thanking a guy just for trying to do his job (and failing spectacularly while getting paid way above what the non-crony market would have paid for him)? It was a dumb hire, and that's on DB, but it was a dumb hire because Hoke is not good at his job.

Sure I can.  This is the internet - I can contest anything.  I can also be 6'2", 240 pounds of muscle and drive an Aston Martin,  :)

Kidding aside, my only point of contention was that while he said that "Hoke" ruined Michigan football, in actuality, it was the accumulation of 7-8 years of continued irrelevance, crap on-field progress and repeated punches to his soul dong by this program that caused his apathy and malaise.  That's how it is for me, at least, and that's how I expect it is for most.

Brutus,

With all due respect that sounds like a you problem.  All (4) of my marriage counselors told me that no one is responsible for your emotions but yourself.  That may be the only piece of good advice they ever gave me.  Well, there was the "you can't fix crazy without medication."

Stay strong ~~ Go Blue!

And don't forget to put deposits into the love bank!

I get what you're saying but let me put it this way.  I could tell my kids "we're going to Disney World!" and they would be really excited.  Then, when we get there, let's just hypothetically say it has completely burned to the ground, and they aren't excited any longer.  I don't think me saying "just because it has burned to the ground doesn't mean we can't be excited about being here" is going to make it any better.

but if he ruined Michigan football for you, then tough shit.  Go find another team to root for.

Hoke re-energized my enthusiasm for Michigan football, but then it waned after the UTL game last year until he lost me at ND this year.  However, it was never "ruined".

The regime prior to Hoke made me apathetic towards Michigan football for the first time in 35+ years of following this program.

I went two or three times to some luncheons that the UM Club of Detroit held for leaders over the summer. Hoke came and spoke and would walk around and shake the hand and chat with literally every person in the room and talk before he did his speech. It would have been very easy for him to come in, go to the podium, do his speech and leave but he took the time to personally meet everyone. He was truly a class act and I can only hope whomever the next coach is will be as cordial and as good of a man. I'm sorry it didn't work out, but it didn't.

Wish him the best, but there is no way I'm going to thank someone for taking us from a Sugar Bowl to 5-7. It's not his fault some egomaniacal dildo offered him his dream job, but I refuse to thank him for doing an astoundingly poor job at it. Best of luck in the MAC.

It will not be a day to celebrate IMO.  It will just be the culmination of another failed coaching tenure that sets the program back again.  Also I think it's sad to have to fire someone from their dream job and who loved Michigan by all accounts.  I hope he does well in the future wherever he goes.  And I'm thankful for all the hard work he put into the program and all the players he helped.

I don't think it should be a time for celebration neither. Like you said, this could possibly be a setback to getting this program back on track. There will be no Denard this time around to mask the deficiencies with this team. Most of the players on this team have not developed, and I don't think naming a new coach, slam dunk hire or not is going to fix that right away. I could be wrong though, look at what Mattison did with the D. Either way, to quote AC/DC it's long way to the top, it there's a real possibility that it doesn't happen with the next coach. Just ask ND.

is a better fit. No animosity toward the guy, I feel bad for him that he reached his dream job and it didn't work out. Although he got multiple millions of dollars out of the job, so I'd probably take that deal.

Thanks for an honest attempt at rectifying a program in shambles, the next coach shall reep the benefits of your recruiting.

Thank you for your contribution to the Michigan Football Program!

I really wish Brady Hoke the best luck and hope he lands at a great place. Brady, Thank You for everything you did to try to bring Michigan back. You had a lot to push through and I think you might have been close. It is time for you to go now and I wish you the best! Go Blue!!

I feel he must go just like everyone.

However, has everyone fully thought this through? What if Jimmy, Miles, Mullin doesn't come? Who wants to accept a job from interim AD?

If we don't get a Michigan guy could you imagine what the pitch would be to recruits ?

Next coach: ummm we have great history, get to play in the big house, in the game....let me get back to you on the history piece. Oh yes we had a horrible season in 2014.

Again I will state, I feel he needs to go too. But I am very concerned on a band aid fix and getting our man. Really feel like this is miles or Jimmy or bust.

Even if we swing and miss and hire our 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th choice of a coach, it will at least spring some new energy into the program. Brady Hoke has lost his charm and there is no positive to keeping him around. We have lost an incredible amount of momentum and a new hire, whoever it may be, will at least get some interest in UM going again.

I waiver between 'don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you' and a certain respect for the man who has been working his hardest regardless of the outcome...

I will be relieved to be moving on, that is for sure.

Dear Brady,

Thanks for reviving Lloyd Carr era football and reminding us how stubborn coaches who don't adjust end up.  I have no clue what kind of person you are, but all the internet experts say you're a nice guy.......so at least there's that.

Have fun in Bolivia!  Say hi to Dave for us!
