You are right....

Malzone was picked first last year, as I recall there was a sigh of relief. Actually, the QB pick is probably a predetermined with the presumed starter going to the DC. Therefore if Drevno had the first pick it would follow that he'd take the presumptive 2 deep.

I fugure that's why we got Harbaugh--he'll sort this stuff out for us.

O'Korn was running the scout team offense all of last year, so he's well behind Speight in playbook reps. Also remember that one of O'Korn's big advantages over Speight is his speed. That's a non-factor in a spring game. Live to panic another day.

Haha it was more for others in the thread. Your sarcasm was clear.
that the coaching staff is just sending a message to O'Korn - "The job isn't yours yet, and we expect to see a lot more out of you by Fall".
Also, did Lorenz say that Speight was picked first; do we know that it wasn't Morris?
It was Speight. He knows the playbook better. JOK will still be the starter and take this team to Columbus undefeated. Let's remain calm for once.

Board meltdowns don't traditionally start here until immediately following the spring game.
The veterans will remember numerous threads which try to draw conclusions from the spring game, an event which is essentially designed so as to prevent the fans from drawing reasonable conclusions for the most part.
The fact that it is on a Friday night this year makes me wonder what a flurry of Friday-type Spring Game threads is going to be like, especially from those who may decide to go have a few near campus and then report their thoughts later.
I can only remember two spring game freak outs (good or bad) being accurate.
1. Jake Ryan was going to be awesome.
2. The QBs in Rich Rod's first year were going to be fucking awful.
Everything else was a bunch of hype or nonsense (good or bad).
You forgot
3. Denard might be a better QB than Tate
And it was also the spring game in 2009 that showed us that Tate Forcier was going to be much better in the offense than the disaster that was 2008. At least for a while...

Tate looked great in that spring game. He looked like the answer at QB. And he was. Until he went south.
*sigh*

Funny thing is that we were right. Jake Ryan was awesome, 08 qbs struggled, Denard ended up being better than Tate and Tate was indeed very good when he kept his act together.

listed the ONLY freak outs that were correct. Then stated there have been many, many other freak outs that weren't correct.
^Got it.
^Missed it.

wasn't there a justified freakout about the Hoke year 4 offense/QBs looking really bad?
1) Spring game
2) Weight gain/loss
3) Jersey numbers

I suspect he has done a little bit of work beyond running the scout team.

when he was on the scout team because of redshirt, and was the likely heir apparent, rather than a 4th stringer.

He missed the spring game due to an injury, but that happened near the end.

He was thrown into a close game against an opponent that was playing their guts out for Coach Kill. The way they were playing that night they might as well have been OSU. We came pretty damn close to losing that game.
Yes, it took him a few plays to get his feet wet, since he was nervous as fuck (first real playing time, in a high pressure situation, with the game and the jug on the line). And then a light went on and he looked like a prototypical Michigan QB (pre 2008).
I doubt he's the starter this year, but he has improved a lot and I wouldn't bet against him being the back-up and getting some decent playing time.

last year just needed to transfer, which is a lot easier to do in 5 months than to get demonstrably better at football. If O'Korn really is worse than Speight at this point, I think there is cause for concern (unless Speight has gotten a lot better, in which case, great).
March 24th, 2016 at 11:50 PM ^
Let's not forget that Speight led a pretty clutch game winning drive in a very hostile road environment against a fired up team that was playing above its talent level for Jerry Kill, on Halloween night.
And he looked pretty good doing it, too.
wonder if Peters was taken first.

Peters is such a great athlete that he is less valuable as a QB than as a dood who can snap the ball to himself to punt it. That's genius! It creates an extra blocker to avoid things like blocked... nevermind. :(
Haven't they both had the same playbok for 1 year?
He wasn't getting the practice reps using our playbook.
