Notre Dame doesn't want to go to Detroit --EDITED: Definitely not going to a bowl

"I agree [no bowl] is the likely outcome, but we are reconvening the leadership counsel to make a final decision," Swarbrick said, according to the report.

Notre Dame, which finished 6-6, would be slotted into a bowl only after all of the bowl-eligible teams with seven victories have set their destinations, according to the report. That would likely leave two choices: The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Detroit on Dec. 26, or the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 6.
A bowl game is looking unlikely for them, I wonder if they want the practices or not? EDIT -- apparently no bowl for Notre Dame. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-notredame-bowl&prov=…

Any player who does not want to play in another game this season should not be on the team. This is no U of Buffalo situation, this is them thinking they are above an invite. ND isn't 10-2 they are 6-6 and are lucky to have the opportunity to even be considered.

Um, have you heard of Detroit's motto? If you were lucky enough to live or work here, or, you know, spend more than an hour here, you'd realize how amazing it is, and how its spirit, history and charm is unparalleled. We're rebuilding, and if you don't want to be part of it, you can go back to the comfy suburbs...but leave Detroit alone.

People are tired of everyone taking a dump on Detroit and the entire state of Michigan. It's like bringing up old crap about RichRod and if his offense can work and BLAH BLAH BLAH.

With Charlie's buyout and the prospect of paying a new coach untold of sums of money I think the Irish players really should have set their pride aside and took the cash that comes with any bowl game.

can you imagine being a senior on that team!? you were highly recruited by all of the bcs powerhouses out of high school. you made the awful mistake of signing on with an ex-super bowl winning offensive coordinator that had started to have some good seasons at nd and just signed a monster extension. now, after 4 major dissapointing seasons...you have one game left to play in your career...OR DON'T YOU!? because the "leadership council" is voting on whether or not it wants to play in a bowl game. really!? a team that would rather go home for christmas break than play in another bowl game!? good luck to whoever the new coach is dealing with that bunch. rich rod's got a rabid pack of dogs a few miles north.

I think the only reason the players have a voice is because of the coaching change. Nobody who is in a position to say yes or no wants a team that doesn't want to be playing to be getting embarrassed in the Pizza Pizza bowl by the CMU's of the world in the midst of a coaching search. Recruits would love to see that.

If Michigan had beaten Illinois, and qualified for a bowl game, and was offered either Pizza Bowl or GMAC Bowl, and turned it down, I would be disgusted with this team and its holier than thou attitude. I would never look at them the same way. I would say, "Look at yourselves. You are a 6-6 team. Practice, go to the Bowl game and get better. You are what you are." I recall Notre Dame did this some years ago, maybe with Bob Davie. It does not meet my standards.

The typical compelling reason for accepting a bowl bid is the extra practice. But in ND's situation, who would be the coach for those practices? what would be learned during those practices would be relevant for the next season? And the real possibility of a CMU kicking the crap out of ND is probably unappealing. there may be some elitist mentality at play, but there are valid reasons for ND to skip the bowl this year.

sign me up if the ND team doesn't want to play. If ND doesn't go, I say we start a Mgoblog football team called the Mgoblog Motherfuckers. I'll go to detroit and play for ND for the Mgoblog name, hell might even be an upgrade to NDs defense. ( I keed, I keed.)-----------> but seriously.

I think everyone is missing the point here, which is that ND expects to hire a coach but thinks that the coach will stay at their old school until their bowl game is finished. The decision doesn't make a lot of sense unless you don't have a coach; ND has missed a bowl 3 out of the past 6 years I believe. Assuming they have their eye on Brian Kelly or Stoops, that's a reasonable assumption.
