Not a great start for Lewis

Submitted by ldevon1 on

Jordan Lewis ran a 4.55 / 40  (official 4.54)

Channing Stribling ran a 4.68 / 40

1st run of the day for both. not sure how much time they give them before the second run, but not very good times considering it looks like most everyone is running in the 4.3 - 4.47 range.

My bad, I forgot the 4 in my original post, but it looks like times are dropping after they have become official anyway. If his time doesn't drop, it isn't really isn't much different than other highly rated / considered corners.

Lewis :  121 Broad jump / 34.5  vertical

Stribling : 114  Broad jump / 31.5 vertical - Striblings 40 has been updated to a 4.60

Lattimore dropped out of the rest of the tests because his hamstring tightened up. I hate to see any of these kids get hurt at a friggin combine of all things especially him as his hamstrings kept him on the sidelines for 2 years. He grew up in one of the highest crime areas of Cleveland. I wouldn't have told anybody, even though they say it isn't serious. Most of these guys are on the verge of getting real Life changing money for their whole family.
Championships are not easy to win just ask Bama. They have had the #1 recruiting class 7 years in a row, sick. Saban is one hell of a recruiter. I know some say they are probably cheating but I don't think they have to with what 5 championships in 9 years? He's a machine. Although I think with all the coaches they have replaced the last couple of years they may only end up 10-2 lol, that's a rebuilding year at Bama, lol

I remember some "moran" on here the other day bitching that we underachieved after seeing Darboh and Chesson's 40 times.

Between OSU blowing it last year with an all time team and getting blown off the field this year by Clemson, are we now supposed to believe that Urban Meyer is a bad, underachieving coach? I mean, all their players are just killing it at the combine.

made the playoffs to at least defend their title. Meyer took his eye off the offense just enough. I'm sure the 2015 team losing to Sparty the way they did haunts him still and it should. They had 1 first down in the 4th qtrvof that game, lol Imo that's all on the HC. But some players alluded to the fact their were some entitlement attitudes and maybe too much partying going on with that team. Bosa went as far as to move out of his apartment to stay out of trouble the rest of the year after being suspended for 1 game for the devils lettuce.

did not expect that low of forties for those 2. But Hill put up a 4.47. He helped his stock. Channing hurt his stock by poor combine numbers. I THINK Clark is gonna be the best of them all. Was thinking Channing but he just doesn't seem to have elite athleticism. Interested to see Lewis 20 and 60 splits I think that is where he will excel. He seems to get to top speed fast.

MSU's Montae Nicholson ran a 4.42, just goes to show you that the forty doesn't mean much.  On no football field on any planet in this solar system or any other is Nicholson faster than Jabrill Peppers as a football player.

For perspective AJ Bouye ran a 4.55 40 the year he came out...and is expected to become one of the richest DB's in the league this offseason. People relax JD will be fine, he will get drafted in the 2nd round and make GM's look like fools for not drafting him.

I've read here frequently that Michigan missed a great opportunity this year, as if they underachieved. What we're seeing at the combine, and will see as well when the draft takes place, is that while Michigan had a lot of very good football players, they were lacking the truly elite athletes that Alabama and OSU have been able to recruit over the last few years. Despite the fact that there are so many Michigan guys at the combine, I think we may only see two taken in the first two rounds. Combine all this with the fact that they didn't have an elite QB either, I think reality is that Michigan didn't underachieve at all. In fact, having been so close to winning every game, they may have overachieved.

I think the fact that we had so many seniors on the team this year is why we underachieved. We'll never have another team that is basically 90% upperclassmen starting.  And that's fine too.

But I do agree, we are not recruiting near the level of Ohio State or Bama yet, bringing in 2 5 stars and another hand full of top 100 players is not the same as brining in 6-7 5 stars and another 12 top 100 players.

and ran a 4.48 hand time 40 as a sophomore. I was 5'10" and 165 pounds.

They pushed me to join the football team and I was one of the 5 worst players on the second worst team in the Chicagoland public school league. They tried me at slot reciever, return man, rb and cb.  I had no anticipation whatsoever, couldn't tackle, couldn't change direction quickly enough to cover, couldn't find a hole to run through, and had bad hands.

I had 2 sweet td kick returns all year by just out-running defenses down the sideline in an almost straight line - against 2 of the other worst teams in the state.

Since then, I have always laughed when people use 40 times to judge on field football speed.

I played soccer the next 2 years and was average...basically no ball control but was used to run down the sideline after long balls and center them, and run down the middle for long balls to get 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Surprisingly, my best sport, by far, ended up being baseball where I was an average hitter, but basically looked to draw walks and then steal 2 bases.  I was a decent fielder that they basically hid in right field.

High school, 15 years ago.....definitely 5 fakes out of 5.  Fake news.

In all seriousness, I was the fastest kid on the team, one of the fastest in the league, and one of the worst on the field.  I just think the 40 times are way overrated.

The NFL Combine is great for publicity, but I’ve never fully understood why the skills tests add so much to a team’s analysis of whether or not to draft a player.  The Combine’s skills tests might be great for MLS teams or flag football teams, but how often are NFL games played without having players wear helmets and pads?  Why won’t the NFL teams have players wear helmets and pads when they’re tested at the Combine?

CAVEAT: The only competitive football I ever played was the kind WITHOUT helmets and pads, but with corner kicks, running time and red cards. If my skills were tested while I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, then I could understand why coaches would get the right impression of how my skills might translate to an actual game; but if I'd been tested while wearing a football helmet and shoulder pads, the coaches wouldn't really know how well I'd test when I wasn't wearing those things.

If someone were applying today for a job that requires a lot of typing every day, would that person be asked to show how quickly he or she could type while using a manual typewriter?

As I watched parts of the NFL Combine, I kept thinking of the movie "Draft Day."  In addition to watching actual game films and having a player examined by medical personnel, I'd suspect that personal interviews have just as much, if not more, of an impact as how quickly a player can run between cones, or run 40 yards in a straight line, or do a broad jump.

And the NFL is going to be a real eye-opener for some of these guys. Instead of facing OSU-level talent once a year, they're going to be facing guys better than that every week. As the Navy says, "that's fine, son, but this here's the fleet".

Everything Lewis was able to do for us, he'll have to do better at the next level, and against receivers stronger, faster and bigger than he faced in college.

is actually a pretty solid time for a DB. Broad jump is exceptional and vertical is very good. Stribling's number are a little pedestrian, but think he will get drafted in later rounds.
