Non-Michigan Game Roll Call

Submitted by UNCWolverine on

While there is nothing better than going to an important game at the Big House I enjoy mixing it up a bit by setting my DVR and going to non-Michigan games as well.

This year I plan to attend LSU vs. Wisconsin at Lambeau, Florida @ Tennessee, and probably a USC and/or UCLA home game later in the year.

In years past I’ve been lucky enough to see A&M upset #1 Oklahoma in 2002, a Florida/Georgia Cocktail Party Game in JAX, numerous LSU home games including the #1 vs #2 gem against Alabama a few years ago, and most importantly Albion @ Hope in that 1993 classic.

What non-Michigan games do you plan to attend this fall?

I'm a grad student at the University of South Carolina now, so I'll be attending all of their home games!

I'm also flying back for at least 3 games in the Big House.

I'll probably go to Toledo home games during the week so it won't interfere with going Michigan games as well as toledo vs bg as that is during the bye week

off 75 coming back from Lake Michigan, then stopped at a gas station opposite the field. When we pulled up, a family dressed in Spartan gear got out at nearby bay and then this Honda delightlfully colored in blue with maize accents over the car's exterior parked near the front entfrance of the station.

My Sparty wife, was going into the convenience store when she noticed the car and had to comment to the female driver about her car. She said, "Wow, you must be brave driving that car around here."

The woman responded, "Not really." People get used to it," Then added, "But you know you get closer to the season starting, because you get a lot of middle fingers" when you drive by.

As Desmond used to say when he got the finger from Buckeyes, "Thank you very much. Thank you very much."

I don't care what time of year it is, when I drive through Ohio, it always feels like alien and enemy territory no matter what my license plate says. And it's always safer driving without a Michigan reference on your vehicle.

I'll catch a UMD football game. Minnesota opens with a Thursday game, I believe, which is mildly tempting, but I probably won't invest the money if Michigan isn't involved.

Most of my traveling days are over. I've been to most of the places you've listed and they were great, but I am an older man with a family and "responsibilities" and things like that. And, frankly, I don't regret that one bit.

He's quite a bit taller and a bit less rotund. However, unlike Lovitz, he is not particularly funny--his sense of humor was surgically removed some years ago. And he's never been interested in anonymous handles or vague, humorous avis.

It's not easy to get him to write in the third person, but prompt him in just the right way you and you can get a snippet of it.

Jerry's World. Also have USC v Utah State, Arizona State, Colorado, Cal, Oregon and Notre Dame lined up at the Coliseum (provided my soccer coaching obligations do not conflict with the times).

I only went to one USC home game while I lived in CA, but if I were reasonably close to a college football venue I would definitely try to attend a fair amount. College football is an awesome sport. I don't blame him at all.

I don't attend Minnesota games frequently because I live 2.5 hours from Minneapolis; if i were in town I would catch at least one game a year just to enjoy being there.

...I can only get out to Ann Arbor for a game every 2-3 years and love college football...so I try to catch as many games wherever I can. And since USC usually schedules solid competition, it is fun to see teams like Arkansas, Ohio State (well maybe not Ohio State), Notre Dame, Texas come out here. Michigan is my team, but I follow/root for USC as long as it does not conflict with my Wolverines. EDIT: Believe me, I would love nothing more than to see a Harbaugh Michigan team come out to LA and beat up USC in the Rose Bowl. Me thinks Harbaugh would have better luck than Carr.

I live about 5 minutes from Wake Forest's campus. My college roommate's wife is a UVA grad. We plan on having them down for the Wake-UVA game in November.

I may also hit up the Wake home opener on Sept 1st v Tulane. They sell beer at the stadium, which greatly makes up for the terrible football.

I'm in NYC, so there's not a lot of options. It's not hard to get to Rutgers, but... Rutgers.

I'll be going to a Columbia game, though. Last time I went, they allowed two touchdowns on the first two plays.

I miss Ann Arbor.

This is a great idea ... I'm about 2 hours from Morgantown, WV this year.  I should check out their schedule and see if there's any ineresting games worth the drive and money.

I went to the Cactus Bowl in Phoenix back on Jan 2nd and watch WVU beat ASU.  It was a good time ... but very bad football.

I remember going to a Pistons game way back in the day when they were still playing at the Silverdome. They had some deal going on where they opened up the top of the stadium seats for like $1 or something like that.  Looked like ants on the court - total waste of time.

I can't go to any games that would require me to miss Michigan.

That said, just moved to Los Angeles and the goal is to get to both the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl this year.

Definitely going to Cal @ USC on October 27th because it's a weird Thursday night game so I won't have to miss any other college football and given that it's MSU week I will be in need of distractions to calm my anticipation/nerves for Saturday.

Then, possibly USC @ UCLA on November 19th at the Rose Bowl. This would be more expensive because of the rivalry game, but I feel like Stubhub will drop the week of.

I will only go to that game if the Michigan Indiana game doesn't coincide, which I don't think it will. Hopeful for Michigan-Indiana to be noon EST, but even if it is 3:30 EST I'd imagine such a big LA rivalry will be set in the late afternoon or night West Coast time. PLUS, I wouldn't have to watch the annual Root for The Meteor Game. Hate watching it. Last year I was driving back from Penn State so I missed it, would love to make it two in a row.

USC will be the only game UCLA will host that will be hard to get tickets to. It would be fun, but if you're worried about the investment, have you looked at UCLA's schedule for other possible games to attend? Of course you can't tell yet, but there will probably be a couple of weeks where Michigan plays during the day and UCLA does not play until the late-late time slot, hours after a Michigan game would conclude.

UCLA only has 6 home games this year.

Definitely want to go to a worthwhile game so that eliminates UNLV.

I'll be back in Ann Arbor for the Wisconsin game so that eliminates Arizona and Oregon State is the day of our night game at Iowa (in addition to being crappy).

So that leaves me with 3 options.

Possibly Utah on October 22nd, although Illinois is a 3:30 start for us which makes it hard unless Utah is a night game PST. Also, that's the week I'm going to Cal-USC and don't really need to do two games within one week.

Maybe Stanford vs. UCLA, but that's the opening of conference play so in addition to our Penn State game I'm really really excited to watch Wisconsin-MSU.

I'm not too worried about the money and the USC game would definitely be the best atmosphere/only game the Rose Bowl isn't half empty. So we'll see.

The other ironic and unfortunate thing; I can literally walk to UCLA from my apartment (and office, for that matter), but the Rose Bowl is so, so far away from here (feel horrible for UCLA students). It's at least an hour one way with traffic. So unless Michigan has a 9AM PST game or UCLA has a PST night game, it'll be hard to make it.

Coliseum is much easier to get to though. In addition to being closer, the new Expo line stops right by the stadium and there's a stop with free street parking just a few miles from Westwood. So if anything I might end up going to two USC games (especially if they are decent this year).

I suppose if you live and work in that area (on Wilshire?) you aren't likely to be worried about above-face prices for tickets, so there's that.

Game times will be the big tip for you if not missing a Michigan game is a priority. UCLA-USC seems like one of the likeliest games to be played in the afternoon and conflict, to be honest. But it's also a big deal. YMMV. UCLA-Stanford probably won't sell out but it could be one of the biggest games of the year in the Pac 12.

Yeah traffic is definitely bad. I luckily can walk to work (it's just under a mile) which is a blessing for LA.

Although might be on client sites a few times a week in which case it won't apply.

Also, I agree about it being worse west of the 405. I got something in the mail that was a traffic study questionaire from the city and it was posing questions about the possibility of making the square between 26th street in Santa Monica on the west, the 405 on the east, Wilshire on the north and Olympic on the south a "pay to enter" zone from 3:30PM to 7:30PM to reduce traffic.

Not sure if it's actually in the works, but the government is at least considering it. I know they have similar zones in London, not sure how I feel about that coming to LA.
