No further discipline for Frank Clark

Submitted by Butterfield on

Title really says it all.  Hoke elaborates here:

Without knowing what non game-related penalties Clark was faced with, it's pretty hard to determine if the discipline was just right, too much or too little.  In any event, happy to have Mr. Clark back and wish the kid well on the field and off.

Think about this:

If the situation was the same and this this thread was titled "Mark Dantonio announces 'No futher discipline for Joel Heath'" (I thought about saying Gholston, but naming his back-up seemed more apt to the situation.)

Would the majority of those posts be disparaging or giving Dantonio "the benefit of the doubt?"

I'm sure most State fans would be saying things like "Dantonio made him do extra conditioning during the offseason!" or "I'm sure Dantonio handled this off-scene." How would those excuses be received on this board?

  1. Dantonio has a history that shows he has little control over his teams off field activities, Hoke has yet to prove himself one way or another (IMO).
  2. I don't think I would say much about Dantonio letting a guy with no prior problems off with a one game suspension for an offseason offense, considering this was a non-violent crime. Where people like Dantonio or Meyer at Florida get hammered around here is the guys with two, three, four strikes, or violent crimes, at least from what I read.

You are a bunch of hypocrites. Dion Sims faced almost the exact situation and Dantonio made him sit an entire year. Sims sat the first three weeks even before he pled out to a MISDEMEANOR.

Clark pleads to a felony and misses a game. Dantonio is looking like the guy with integrity. He made one mistake in letting Winston back on the team. That was a few years ago.

1. Hoke has had eight arrests on his team since his hire. Dantonio has had zero on his in the same time frame. The thugs are undoubtedly running the show in Ann Arbor, everything for victory, etc.

The embarrassing part about it is twofold: first, that you folks somehow still manage to cling to this sense of false moral superiority even when your players consistently end up in handcuffs; second, that it's not even working. Your team still isn't very good, even with the players naming their own terms. I don't need to be Nostradamus to see that this isn't going to end well for Hoke and his crew, even with his May Recruiting Championship trophy.

2. The first part of this statement is a lie. You people demanded that a Michigan State player be banned from football because he had the nerve to play rough against the mighty Michigan Wolverines. This is the same fanbase that cheered their heads off when Drew Stanton got hurt, or when Jalen Rose whiped his filthy, cheating ass on the court at the Breslin Center. Oh yes, we MSU fans don't forget these things. Why do you think we like the bloodsport of our defense meeting old Armpunts? It's a chance to give you what you've had coming for quite a long time.

And in regards to your multiple infraction bit, this is Toussaint's second infraction. Also, Sims' misdemeanor was his first, yet he still got trashed on here. Breaking and entering may not be assault and battery, but to say it's a "nonviolent crime" makes it sound like he was caught jaywalking. Let's be real here; if an MSU player committed a felony and Dantonio let him back on the team immediately, this place would be howling. As it is, it's all talk of second chances and forgiveness and "kids will be kids". It's hypocritical, and it's sickening. You pretend to be humanitarians concerned with the welfare of this kid, and that's a load of horse dung.

At least most MSU fans are honest about these things. Sure, let Frank Clark play. But drop the whole "holier-than-thou" act, because it's getting very worn out. Michigan is no better than any other school. Indeed, the way Hoke is running things, it's quite a bit worse than many other schools. Your academic standards for athletes are the NCAA minimum. You play felons. There is no "Michigan Difference", and the sooner you stop closing your eyes and pretending there is, the sooner you might actually be a factor in college football again.

There were some OMG threads, but weren't most of the reactions in the posts following it kinda "meh, funny to make fun of, but not really anything that'd I'd say 'this program is out of control'"?  Fans will always make fun of other fans, but when serious I think most of us see the difference between trying to smash a guy's skull and pissing in public, and whatever's in between.

It's all about the moral high ground.  We all want to have it and not give MSU or OSU or ND or SEC fans something to say "Look, UM players and coaches aren't perfect!"  If this was a MSU player, I guarentee many, many people here would be destroying Dantonio for handling it this way.

Having said that, I'm glad Clark is playing and hope he can stay out of trouble.  I understand UM will get blasted by ESPN and its rival fans, but so be it.

Like clockwork, select MGOBLOGGERS are judge, jury and executioner. Gotta love Internet Justice. Also wonder what percentage of those criticizing Hoke also lambasted Brandon's choice to hire Hoke.

Ask yourself, what would Harbaugh have done? Would he had excused the kid from the team? I think not had the kid listened and done everything Harbaugh expected of him to stay on the team.

I think Hoke is keen on giving people a second chance. But only ONE second chance.

Frank Clark either grew up and matured and learned his lesson to become a better person or he will quickly find out that Hoke doesn't like to be proven a fool for giving a kid a second chance.

I stand with Hoke on this. He's the coach. He knows a whole lot more bout the situation than any of us on here.

But feel free to boo Frank when he makes a play/sack/interception if it makes you feel better.

Arkansas suspended 3 players indefinitely for stealing textbooks in May and they still aren't on the team. Frank Clark stole a laptop, which is much more valuable, and missed one week of practice and one game. Michigan's "standards of excellence," "leader's and the best" are obviously below that of the so called dirty SEC.
