I'm just glad we have Beilein who will coach these young guys after this.

This is our annual WTF game.

2011-12: Ohio University

2012-13: Winless PSU

Last year: UNC-Charlotte

The 1989 team lost to a Division 2 team.

It's not that big of a deal in terms of the season, but to have another ESPN front-page, nationally-embarassing loss is so frustrating.  I mean the New Jersey Institute of Technology.  Jesus Christ.

There are glaring weaknesses on this team that feel a lot more permanent than the kind we saw in games like Charlotte. Chatman looks amazingly awful and our frontcourt situation is a nightmare. It could be a very bumpy conference campaign.

Serious question: Who gives a @#$% about the national press? At a higher level, who cares what fans of other teams think?

I think it would be OK to care about the effect of a historically bad loss on our NCAA seeding. I really don't care what the average ESPN reader thinks of UMich. This is the network whose customers apparently respond emotionally to ads for "The General" and "5-Hour Energy (!!!)."

More like Alabama in that early season tournament in 09/10.

Chatman is a disaster at this point. They have almost no scoring beyond the big 3. And the defense is a mess.

We can still rally for a good season but that seems far less certain than in recent years

Its upsetting but at the end of the day how much will this loss actually swing our RPI? 4 spots? Thats a single seed line and easily overcome. I mean Kansas lost at home to TCU (approximately a comparable loss) two years ago and was only a Trey Burke miracle away from going to the Elite 8. Things are going to be okay.

I thought our defense was fine in our other games though. Maybe we play to our level of competition. I'm confident that Beilein will give these kids a kick to the pants and we'll beat EMU by 40 because of how we've recovered from stuff in past years.

We'll be fine though. There's so much potential in this team and we all know Beilein will develop these players as the year goes on. Everybody but Caris struggled today, I don't expect that to happen again. We'll be fine. Just front page news for ESPN that's all.

NJIT, effing really? Why do no-names continue to take us down (football included).  Youth had to factor in I suppose.  Need to re-group now, the schedule only gets tougher with conference play coming.

It took 35 mins for Beilein to figure out we needed to drive to the basket. They were sticking to our shooters and allowing us to drive, bcus they knew we drive with intentions of kicking out for 3. Once he figured it out we started getting to the line every possession, but it was waaay too late. Also, you have to foul down 1 with only a 9 or 10 second differential ... especially when it's 1&1. Coach B had one of his worst games today.

I blame it on the B1G network. We never seem to play well on there. I'm out of excuses to make.

However, give NJIT all the credit. We had guys in foul trouble and they took advantage. They shot like 60% in the second half. Yes we gave them some easy looks but they also made some excellent shots. Just not our game. We will get better. Irving was M.I.A.

Too many easy looks possession after possession, combined with NJIT hitting some tough shots down the stretch and being clutch at the line.  Factor in some wide open looks that Irvin usually knocks down and what seemed a general lack of intensity and urgency for much of the game = recipe for loss.

My 11 year old son lost it at the final horn.  Totally on the floor with tears in his eyes, saying "they don't deserve to lose  to that crappy team."  I felt for him but had to say, "Well we kind of did deserve to lose that one.  Cheer up though, because they're young and there are plenty more games to play, and we have a great coach and leader who I trust will use this to make these guys a lot better in the long run."

The 11-year rolled his eyes at me.  Hopefully sometime in February and March, I can say, "Hey remember when we lost to NJIT?  Yeah that didn't matter very much, did it."

They hit shots the entire 2nd half, and many with hands in their face or way off-balance.  They just were on fire.  I do have an issue with having a player dribble right behind a cutting player for a layup ... but I'm certain JB will take care of that.

This is a high-variance team due to youth and reliance on jumpers. When one of your best players can't hit a shot, when the other team is hitting 3's falling out of bounds with a hand in their face and makes all of their free throws, sometimes you're going to lose games you should win.

I hope Chatman adapts to the college game. Right now he looks like a video game player who has used all the energy from his stamina meter. He does everything soooo slowly.

I cant afford a negbang. I will say that everyones opinions and insight on this board is pretty spot on no matter what your opinion.

Yes Im sorry that was a terrible plea for more upvotes....forgive me.

The team failed at on the court today...

But we've got too much good will, karma, and historical perspective for a successful negbang.

Good day sir

confused on how Michigan always seems to leave a lane open or a player open down low when they are on defense. Guys just walk to the hoop or are alone for a jam or lay up.

Is anyone else seeing this?
