Nightly DC Rumblings

Submitted by Jack Daniels on

1. Randy Shannon met with the Reese family, and told them he wasn't leaving his job at Florida.

2. Chad Simmons of Scout thinks Pruitt would accept the Michigan job on the spot if offered Friday.

3. Lance Anderson is still in play, and may be offered the job soon (or already has).

In other words...

I've got Friday on my mind

If you look at his playing and coaching career, he played 2 seasons with Dallas (NFL) and coached 3 seasons outside the state of Florida ('12 TCU, '13-'14 Arkansas).  He was born in Miami, went to the "U", is going on 50 and spent all but  3 years in the state of Florida.  I don't see him leaving.

Pruitt would be good. Lance Anderson is kind of underwhelming compared to Derek Mason. 24 points to Oregon State, 35 to UCLA, 38 to Oregon and Notre Dame. We freaked out about one 42 to Ohio State.

His defense got torched by Oregon last year as well.

He plays a bend but don't break 3-4 scheme with his corners 10 yards off. He plays his safeties extremely deep as well. The whole goal of his scheme is to keep everything in front of the defense. It's infuriating to watch such passiveness. If he did come here he better roll up his corners and get after it otherwise there are going to be a lot of angry posters here on game day.

I think Anderson would be a bit of an awkward fit given our personnel. I like Pruitt more, although I will say Stanford people absolutely love Anderson and he is considered vital to their success, especially in recruiting. They would be devatstated to lose him.

If we get Pruitt who coaches LB's? That's 3 people with secondary coaching backgrounds and only one (G. Matt) in the front seven. I think Pruitt is a great coach and even better recruiter but our LB's need all the help they can get.

Maybe they could persuade Zordich to stick around for a year as the defensive analyst. His salary is guaranteed if he stays. It wouldn't cost him money, but I imagine he'd rather coach.

I haven't heard what kind of contract Pruitt is looking for. I read that he's guaranteed $1.4M this year in his buyout, but it will be reduced by the amount of his salary. He could either come cheaply like Fisch or wanting even more.

That's a pretty big hangup, in my opinion. The guys previously thought to be candidates (and some could still be candidates) were mostly LB coaches, like Shannon, Leavitt, Pees, and Anderson. So Pruitt would be an awkward fit that could require some shuffling of the staff.

But the guy can flat-out coach, and can also recruit. As a fan it's hard not to get excited about the possibility of Pruitt as DC, although Anderson would be a good hire as well in my opinion.
