Tom Herman's a good coach, has that team that is totally stocked with talent improving quickly. Hardest they've played in years, now they just have to be consistent with it.

They played the hardest I've seen them play in years. They had gotten soft and lethargic.

is up next! 16-14 early second half

Stanford just kicked a 20-yard field goal on 4th and 1. That is pathetic.

Is the Stanfordization of Stanford finally coming to an end? They were beaten soundly by SC last week and aren't looking too hot against SDSU.

Maybe this is telling us something about USC.

I'm not quite sold on Helton over there. They had a strong finish last year, of course, but otherwise it seems like they haven't been quite the sum of their parts.

I thought he was a dead man walking when they got housed by Alabama, but they pulled things together nicely and certainly look like they have things together that they didn't under Sark and Kiffin.
And the guy is likeable. Both he and Darnold were nothing but classy toward Texas after the game tonight.
But the consensus thinks they're good because they beat Washington and Penn State last year. Given that Stanford doesn't look great and Texas has already been humiliated by Maryland. So we still have no idea how good they are.

Sam Darnold and everything changed for USC.. Darnold is a playmaker with remarkable field vision who is good at getting the ball to other playmakers. USC's OL is a little suspect this year though. Texas defense played a great game vs. USC. Darnold might be the best thing that ever happend to Clay Helton, like Elway was the best thing to ever happen to Shannahan.

I now worry about the road game at Maryland and Purdue. Most of the gimme games are turning into tough road games.

Steel on steel. Those tests may be just what we need to prepare ourselves to compete with Wisconsin and Ohio State at the end of the season.
Assuming we survive those tests.

Still don't think Purdue can block us. And it's probably worth noting Louisville dominated Purdue but kept shooting themselves in the dick in various ways. Yardage was 524-344, about 6.5 yards per play to 4.3.
110 penalty yards and 3 fumbles in the red zone. Now admittedly we suck in the red zone so far and don't have Lamar Jackson, but we have more overall talent than the Cardinals.

Aaaaaaand down goes Stanford.

David Shaw FFFF?

that team apologists are trying to paint Air Force as. SD State would have put us to the sword if we had played vs them like we did vs AF and Cincy. Those two teams were just good enough to give you a bit of a scare if you play like crap, SD State is good enough to beat you.

Today's adventures of David Shaw, offensive mind:
Bryce Love averaged 14.2 ypc but only got the ball 13 times. Hell, even if you take away his two 50+ yard TDs, he still averaged over 7 on the other 11 carries. Give him the ball!

BTW looks like that call by ESPN to shun the UCLA-Stanford game looks pretty good.
