NFL Playoffs, It's Snowing, Will be 30 Below Up North, What's Your BBQ/Cup?

Submitted by xtramelanin on January 19th, 2019 at 5:59 PM

Mates,

So it looks like those of you who live down south are finally getting some snow.  Its about time and good for you.  Up north we are a little chilly, and they're saying tonight/tomorrow will be well below zero, ambient, with wind chills taking it down to -30.  Must have been blowing through the Troll Center onto our basketball team's shooting touch earlier today.   About to chop wood for the wood stove and eventually have an adult beverage and fire up the BBQ.

As for football the two games tomorrow are of course the NFC and AFC games.   NFC goes first @ 3:00 with the Rams playing the Saints, with N.O. as a 3 point favorite.  The over/under is 57 points.   In the AFC you will have the NE Brady's playing the Chiefs in KC, and the Chiefs are also favored by 3 points with the over/under set at 56.5 points.

So, that leads to two questions:

1.  How're you doing with the snow storm and what's on your grill, in your cup, etc?

2.  Who you got for the AFC and NFC Championship games?

Enjoy the winter weather (be safe) and hope you are having a great weekend.

I saw the thread title and knew it was you, XM.

It is indeed quite cold and brisk up here in northern MInnesota, where wind chill warnings and advisories dot the map. Still not as bad as it gets, it's been a mild-ish winter thanks to the jet stream. Alas, none of that fun snow you guys down there are getting, either.

The AFC championship game should be enormous fun. The first KC-NE game this year was a blast. The Rams-Saints game could be excellent as well, though I find games in the Superdome to be less entrancing in general.

The Super Bowl should be phenomenal from an offensive standpoint.

we will give them access to a part of the barn when it gets cold.  this time of year though, the 'herd' is quite small so its not a problem at all.  even with the barn available they will usually stay outside, sometimes in the lee of the barn if its windy, but generally just bunched up together.

I think we all need to show up to the MGoSermon one of these Sundays and join his congregation.

When it's warmer in northern Minnesota, that is.

In SoCal played in a golf tournament today.  Was 79 and got sunburned.  Had some 805 ales.  I do miss my native Michigan though.  Hoping for another Brady Super Bowl, but put my money behind Mahomes.  Should be good.  NFC side rooting for the locals.  Love your posts XM.

Yep--I saw the title and new it was the handiwork of Xtra. I was hoping to get an update on any basketball games his kids may have had this weekend! My two kids both prevailed in their (admittedly low-key) rec basketball games, so I'm celebrating with a cold beverage as we wait to see how much snow we are going to get.

only 5 kids playing hoops right now.  the oldest boys lost their varsity game last night.  the avatar boys individually played extremely well (one had a left handed up and under lay-up, among other feats of athleticism not normal for an 11 yr old) but they, too, did not prevail as a team.  youngest daughter's official season starts monday.

glad your kids did well.  enjoy cold beverage.  enjoy snow.  a bit jealous about that.

As they say, you win some you lose some. Interesting watching all the different permutations. There are the games where your own kid plays well but the team loses, and those where they don't play well but the team wins. As someone who is not super athletic, I'm amazed to watch my kids do things that I was never able to do at their age. It's always fun to watch them, regardless of the outcome.

I think we're expecting about 10 inches overnight and into tomorrow (we're in New England). Hasn't been all that much snow so far. And then we get the cold early next week, though not as bad as you have it in Northern Michigan!

Stay warm, enjoy the barbecue, and enjoy the basketball season!

we here in the center of North Carolina are in the 50's all day/night today/tonight.  Will cool down tomorrow night to the mid teens.  Just cooked a turkey (had one left in the freezer from Christmas) and will be cheering for the two "New" teams.  New Orleans and New England.  Brees vs Brady is just too friggin good to pass up as both are nearing the end of their hall of fame careers.

Yes, I was there. It was early in the year, there was a light rain that wasn’t too cold, the crowd was live, a big matchup between good teams. Purdue was good; we were much better. One of those games that falls under the category of “this is a game you take people to so that they can understand why college football is great.”

I was there too! Flew in from California with my then 6 year old. It was his first experience in the Big House and visiting campus. It left quite an impression on him.

MGoWife and I are heading to Napa today. It’s raining here, but that drives away the tourists, so not so bad. Will drink too much good wine.

1: coffee. Always. Sipping some right now.

2. Chiefs and Rams

  • I love Brady, but as a lifelong Colts fan, I just cannot root for that team
  • Chiefs are a better team than the Pats. The Pats only advantage is prior success with Brady and Bellichek, but they are really bad on the road in these situations. Give me the kid: 31-20
  • Saints should realistically win, but I think the Rams, with the prior experience in the dome, will have a better game plan this time: Rams win 35-31

Snow just started here in Vermont.  Expecting 12-18 inches.

Hopslam has arrived for the first time here, so I will be doing a head to head comparison with Heady Topper.  For science, of course.

Down here in Florida I spent the day with my boys as they had practice for their respective travel baseball teams.  Always fun to watch them play and be out on the field.  It was in the high 70's with little humidity.  Tomorrow is looking ugly for Florida standards but nowhere near the nasty weather that is happening in the north.  Stay safe and warm everyone.  Having pizza and wine today.  Chiefs/Rams in the Superbowl.

63 degrees here in Sac.  Ice cold domestic.  Having chili and a turkey sammy for dinner.

I miss Michigan, but not sure I miss those below zero days.

This cold in DFW ought to be accompanied by snow. Instead, the north wind is blowing the artic air something fierce.

Go Chiefs! (Sorry Tom)

In Chicago. My girlfriend and I just broke up... Drinking some Two Hearted and homebrew IIPA. Probably going to head down to the atore and get some more Two Hearted since that hit the spot. Then I'm probably going to fire up some door dash and order Chipotle.

It's really shaping up to be a nice solo pity party. Lol

That's true. But still not something I thought I would be going through when i woke up this morning...

No sir, not driving. I live in the city, so beer is a quick stumble away and I can get food delivered from nearly any restaurant my heart desires. Plus, my car is snowed in on the street and I am nowhere near ready to deal with that mess! haha

Traveling from Mexico City to Chicago via Dallas.  So, I’ll be in the soup later tonight.  Praying the one hour delay we just got hit with is the only delay into Chicago.  Have to stay alert, so no beer happening until I get home where Hopslam awaits.

It’s 70 right now in central Florida, but the low tomorrow night is expected to be in the mid-30s. Expecting rain overnight but clearing on Sunday.

Cheering for the Rams because of their resurgence in the last few years, and tired of NO. Obviously rooting for NE because of the GOAT.

Stay safe and warm MGoNortherners.

I barely shovel, I mostly just drive over it. I don’t have a truck or 4 wheel drive, I just don’t care.

I’ll take the Chiefs and the Saints to win. Both are very hard to pick for me.
