NFL Pickin' and Grinnin' + Friday Drinking

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

With no football on tonight for the first Friday night in quite a while, I guess it's time to look to the NFL for the next games up - including our own Detroit Lions who play tomorrow night in Seattle.   The home team is the favorite in each game, and the schedule looks like this:

Houston        4 pts        Oakland

Seattle           8              Detroit

Pittsburgh     11            Miami

Green Bay     5             NY Giants

Epic neg-bang today.   Love the snark....except for the guy that said Maryland had better uni's than us.   'Crootin, too.  The fire is lit, snow is falling, and what do you have in your glass tonight?

Houston

Seattle, as much as I hate to say it.  When do the Lions EVER make it close on the road, at night, outdoors and against a quality opponent?  This is the playoffs too.  I think this one could get ugly.  For giggles I might tease the Lions for 7 points with the under and pray they can keep the margin of loss to two touchdowns or less.

Pittsburgh

NY Giants, though this one might be a teaser as well.

And I'm drinking Smirnoff, Sprite Zero, cran-rasberry and orange juice with a splash of lime.  My usual.

I came into possession of a bottle of Porto Morgado Tawny Port and am enjoying a glass of it as I type.

I'll go with Houston, Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Green Bay. As for the Lions, I just don't see it - possible, always, but probable, definitely not that.

I take Houston by more than 4 easily. With Cook as your starting QB, starting for the first time, you'd better pray for a defensive slopfest where Khalil Mack takes over and records 3-5 sacks and Houston coughs up 2-3 turnovers on their own side of the field that Oakland converts for TDs.

I take the Seahawks because it's the fucking Lions. Will be a close game, Lions will even lead for a good chunk of it, but they're the Lions. They will find a way to lose.

I take Pittsburgh because of Big Ben and Antonio Brown at home. Will be under 11, but they move on.

I take the Giants over Aaron Rodgers tomorrow. Eli Manning plays out of his mind in the postseason. And he's 7-0 in the postseason when the Giants are the underdog. He gets the benefit of the doubt until he actually loses.

Like the new star of Celebrity Apprentice, I love a sweet little red Californian now and then...as for this weekend's games, I'll go with Texans and Steelers to cover, Lions (to beat the spread), and Giants (to win outright). If Houston can't beat Cook at home, all those guys should be cut/fired. The Steelers will unleash holy hell on the Aqua Mammals, and I'm sure Suh will get ejected for something. The Giants just match up really well with the Packers and seem to have their number lately. And for all Rogers's plaudits, he and McCarthy seem to come up bust in the playoffs more often than not. As for our beloved Lions, I see them coming out strong and sticking around until the 4th, when Seattle pulls away with a defensive touchdown. A garbage time score beats Vegas. I'm hoping for the best, of course, but I know the drill.

Just found out we have an interested buyer for our house (went on market yesterday) and found out my offer on another house was accepted tonight. Trying to calm the nerves with some bulleits tonight.

I will take the favorites in all games this weekend.

Here we go Steelers!

I'm picking all the favorites too.  Too bad for Oakland -- looked like such a promising season for them until Carr got hurt.  Green Bay and Pittsburgh are red hot, and well . . . you can't really pick the Lions to win a playoff game, can you?

Yup. Fire is lit. Me and the old lady just got out of the hot tub. It's cold outside. Ice in our hair but beautifully clear skies.

Drinking a veritable plethora. Clearing out the Christmas/Holiday beers from the beer fridge so I can fill'er up with not Christmas/Holiday beer. Dark Horse (various), Sam Adams (various), Oddside (various) and Rochester Mills Milkshake Stout, among others.
