NFL Cutdown day

...not too kind to some former Wolverines. Steve Schilling cut by the Chargers, as well as a few players from years before in there. I was surprised, as it seems like getting picked, even in the 6th round, means the team really likes some things about you. Hopefully he can catch on elsewhere, I think he could be a serviceable guard.

On a brighter note, Justin Boren cut by the Ravens.

Sixth and seventh rounders getting cut before the season is actually pretty common practice.

  • Steve Schilling may still have a chance to be put on the practice squad, and possibly Greg Mathews, though I don't think he got much playing time with the Rams.
  • Stevie Brown and Jamar Adams have been on and off practice squads; don't know if their PSq eligibility has been used up.
  • Prescott Burgess has been cut, PSq'd and re-activated several times by the Ravens, so his time with them has probably passed.
  • Marlin Jackson was on IR with the Colts, and I believe also for his full first year with the Eagles, so his not being ready/active (much if any) in preseason with them this year may also be a bad sign for his future with another team.
  • Same for Gabe Watson, without the injury issue, considering he was on the free-agent list for a while before the Giants picked him up.
  • On the other hand, injury may be good news for Brandon Minor.  The Broncos put him on IR, so they're holding on to him for the year, though he won't be playing.
