Is "News" Of JH to Raiders Just Rank Speculation, Too?
SO WHATS WITH THE STORIES ABOUT THE RAIDERS. All this good vibe from UMland is being met with good vibe from RaiderNation. It's like Schroedinger's Box -- both stories can't be true at the same time, yet, they seem to be. This is one freakin' weird cat.
Our Public Enemy #1 -- er, well, Messenger of Public Enemy #1 -- is SJ Mercury News beat reporter Tim Kawakami. He's been mentioned repeately as the guy close to the 49ers linking Jim to the Raiiiiiderrrrs (in gravelly voice). He was the guy Mike & Mike mentioned this morning (I can't stand the one Mike but I'm ok with the other Mike). So I checked out his twitter, and saw this from just earlier today:

There is definite interest on the Raiders' side. There is curiosity (or more) on Harbaugh's side. From there, who knows what happens.
"Confident" is the wrong word. Just saying it makes sense... MT @WyomingRaider you seem pretty confident Coach Jim will be Raiders HC
OK, that's not a guy saying, it's a done deal and definitely going to happen. It's guesswork. It's an opinion.
I'm not saying ITS HARBAUGHING but I'm saying ITS NOT NOT HARBAUGHING.
Just trying to make sense out of this quagmire. DEC 29 CANT COME SOON ENUF.
Or is there something more concrete people are reporting about the Raiders?

I've been a Raiders fan my whole life, and only a Michigan fan since college, AND THIS IS NOT WIN, WIN. It's WIN, WTF.
HARBAUGH to MICHIGAN, please.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
And as a Bears fan I would be equally PISSED if he were to go to Chicago.
Michigan means WAY more than the NFL (to me, anyway).
December 17th, 2014 at 2:45 PM ^
Echoing sentiment as Bears fan.
Harbaugh to Michigan PLEASE!
He doesn't only save a TEAM, he saves an entire CONFERENCE!

I love your AHS avatar

The last thing we need is for the Bears to F this up. Then again, I don't think Jim sees his time with Ditka as fondly as he does his time with Bo.

...Waitaminute. There's a whore island?
Screw this Harbaugh watch. Where's whore island?

There are 2 - Columbus and East Lansing.

because I hear N582CJ is there now
December 17th, 2014 at 2:02 PM ^
No. Lose lose. Harbaugh doesnt go to michigan, and the raiders are still the raiders.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:03 PM ^
I will never understand how someone could be invested in an NFL team as much or more than a college team.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:17 PM ^
I grew up in the bay area, and thus have been a niner's fan my whole life. I only really became a Michigan fan when I became a student here. I would say as of now, I love both teams equally.

Pro teams are corporations.
College teams are your family.
Choose wisely.

Raiders are interested in Harbaugh is what you are worried about?? I don't need a source to know that the Raiders would be interested in a top tier head coach.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
and the Harbaugh camp is "curious". Big difference there. "I'm curious to find out how much more Michigan is willing to pay than Oakland is..."
December 17th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
So he's saying Harbaugh is "curious" about the raiders job, and in one writer's personal opinion, Harbaugh to the raiders "makes sense"?
neither of those statements are particularly confidence shattering to me, and really shouldn't be to anyone else except for people in the group the believes Harbaugh to Michigan is secretly already signed and sealed.
December 17th, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
Even if it was a done deal, his source could be a 49ers exec trying to build trade interest if JH hasn't informed them. Kawakami is going to be covering the 49ers after JH is gone, makes sense that his sources are with the team and not JH.
December 17th, 2014 at 1:55 PM ^
Getting Harbaugh, or not getting Harbaugh? It's an academic question since we'll never experience both, but in any event I hope Brian's already getting the MGoCapybaras up to speed.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
Sounds like a fun social experiment! Brian can do A/B test and drive half of traffic each way to 2 servers, and see which crashes first.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:05 PM ^
it will crash harder/first. Usually people are more outspoken when they're angry than when they're happy.
December 17th, 2014 at 5:58 PM ^
Correct. If we get him, it will take me some time to come back in from the street, put my clothes back on, and then post on the blog.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:12 PM ^
At the time of the announcement, Harbaugh will be both hired and not hired.
Until the server loads.

If we don't get him I'll be too busy drinking whiskey in the dark by myself.
December 17th, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
it is all speculation at this point. I'm not sure Harbaugh even knows where he will go so how could anyone else?
I won't beleive any report until we see Jim wearing a Michigan hat at a press conference announcing the deal to coach Michigan.
December 17th, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
For as fervent a stance as he has taken against Harbaugh going to Michigan he should at least be able to offer up something a little stronger than, "it makes sense." Asshat.
December 17th, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
"could care less"
December 17th, 2014 at 3:00 PM ^
I don't think Kawakami has taken a strong stance against Harbaugh going to Michigan. He is the SV's beat writer. The Bay Area version of Wojo. Everything I have read by him is definately partial to Harbaugh staying, but unless I have missed a major tweet from him, he has never implied that Harbaugh would not come back home, nor have I ever heard him quote insiders saying that Harbaugh would stay. The guy has a vested interest in Harbaugh staying and the tone of everything he writes implies that he has a lot of respect for him. Many people in the midwest are saying it makes sense for Jim to come back (like the Grantland article), Kawikami is providing the counter, how it makes sense for Jim to stay in the Bay. I want Harbaugh at Michigan as much as anyone, but Kawikami saying "it makes sense for him to stay" does not make him an asshat.
December 17th, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
You should read his Twitter from last night then. It started with:
Said it before, will keep saying it: Harbaugh wants to stay in the NFL. RT @Carr_Crazy @49ers Are these Jim to Michigan rumors real?
— Tim Kawakami (@timkawakami) December 16, 2014
And then continued with him arguing with and insulting Michigan fans for a while for questioning his take. He was pretty unbiased about Michigan before, but since this exchange he keeps coming out more and more against Michigan in any way.
December 17th, 2014 at 3:40 PM ^
That he has written. His interest is that he is a writer for the Raiders.
The team sucks! After the game that the 49ers lost, all I could think afterward is how the hell did that happen and 2nd thought was maybe there is something to the power of prayer. I don't see Jim going to the Raiders and just because I am very impartial to him coming to Michigan.
The 49ers are treating him like shit and have been for the better part of 2014 and he's a winning coach? It confuses the hell out of me. Going over to the Raiders would most likely mean some draft picks which they cannot afford to give up, the team would be even worse if it is possible and how long would it be before he is in the same situation as an NFL coach. I say he should take a step back for awhile, come on home to Michigan get a few good years under him, NC Ring and then head back to the NFL for his Super Bowl Ring if he desires.
Michigan is the best a great option for him and it all happens to come at an opportune time. If this was last year we wouldn't even have hope.
