New Year's Day - I missed you!

Submitted by JTGoBlue on

Yes, I know - New Year's Day has, in fact, happened the last two years despite the absence of our Michigan football team...but you all agree it just wasn't the same.

I am now counting the days to was once, and will be again, my favorite day of the year (yes, more the my own birthday). Of course, I am excluding religious holidays, and my wedding anniversary.

In past years, I have put a lot of thought into how I will spend my day in front of the TV...mostly centered around who will join me, food, and beer.  Most of the effort is in planning the food, or 'snackies' as I refer to them (my family loves it when I say 'snackies'...well, not really).  It's a long day...Outback bowl at 11:00, last bowl game usually ends at around midnight,  so I've learned to 'pace myself'.

So before I plan my New Year's Day, I thought I would ask my fellow MGoBoard experts and connoisseurs - what is your usual routine?

usually makes a buttload of samiches with the crust taken off and supplies ample amounts of juice boxes to quench my thirst. January 1st will be a great day.

I rescued my husky/pit, Maizey Blue (pictured) just a few days after New Years last year as well! I guess it was an emotional substitute for lack of football.

Glad I have football to look forward to this year. Don't think I have the energy to raise another puppy.

Check on Transportation. Get ready. Leave early to not get stuck in traffic by Stadium. Fight off smack talk from opposing fans. Maybe eat something, depending on nerves. Cheer loudly. Head back to hotel. Drink and celebrate...or drink and mope. Get to bed because invariably the flight is at 6 am the next day.

Yeah, this years game times do kind of suck.  I much preferred the staggered times.  But hey, we are playing again, so that's cool!

When Michigan wins this will be RR's signature moment that he's here to stay, beating a pretty good Miss State team in SEC land should prove this program is definetly improving.

like i said on the front page, 1pm is the perfect starting time for those of us that indulge in new year's eve festivities.

also would love to see 184+ passing yards out of denard to get to 2,500.

Oooo, can we tell stories? I'm so old that I actually drove to New Orleans to see the 1984 Sugar Bowl, the one UM lost 9-7 to Bo Jackson's Auburn team. That's the legendary game in which Bo said he had never been hit that hard for that long in a game in his career...

23 hour car ride, sketchy hotel room in even sketchier part of town, outrageously priced nose-bleed section seats, New Year's Eve in the Big Easy...that's what I remember about New Year's Day!

Can I go back to sleep now?

We've had this week, this awful, dramatic uncertain week and even though we had an idea where we were headed, hearing the official announcement just made me super happy.  Maybe everything's on its way to being back to normal.

Is anyone still watching the bowl selection show on ESPN? They just asked what would be Mississippi State's record if they had Cam Newton. Wow. Like that matters in the slightest? Jesus.

Perfect time. It won't be too late in Europe to watch the game. Snowboarding in France and watching Michigan football seems like the best way to spend new years

wee bit of a hangover in the morning with an early wake up. Throw decoys out around 7, shoot a few mallards and a goose or 3, get home and get a pot of chili going, take the kids tobogganing, roust the neighbor hood crew up around noon for beers and whiskey treats, and ring in the New Year with a rousing Gator Bowl victory.

Dammit, sounds good.

nephew is getting married. I told him when he set the date that I would not be there because Michigan would be in a NYD bowl game. He laughed and said no way. Now who's laughing...I should be laughing but instead am crying. I knew this would happen. Stupid family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Im seriously thinking about not going. If I do, I'll be the guy looking at his phone the whole time...stupid Nephew!!!!!
