New rule for NCAA basketball

Submitted by Blazefire on

The NCAA has just announced a rule change for Mens Basketball to be instituted immediately.

If your team is called Ohio State, MUGGING the opponent will not result in a foul.

If your team is called Michigan, a gentle graze of anywhere north of his shoulder blades is good for a trip to the line.

not sure where anybody else stands, but for me Matta complaining about the officiating is what really pisses me off more than the officiating itself. Not that I think a 51-11 disparity should happen in two meetings, but our style of play isn't one that is going to draw alot fouls. There were definatly some oppurtunities at the rim, where OSU got away a good amount of contact.

Next year OSU loses Diebler, Sullinger, Lighty, & Lauderdale.

Unfortunately, they will still have Craft, who seemed to piss off Morris. They will have a senior Buford, and that Deshaun Thomas kid who is basically a slightly crappier version of Sullinger.

Also I'm sure they have 3 5 stars ready to take the places of those guys, but regardless I think UM has a much better shot at them next year.

Normally with this type of discrepancy between fouls I'd be outraged, but they didn't have to foul us. There were a few bad calls, but not any more than a usual game. They played tight D and we threw the ball away. OSU is a really good basketball team.

How about our defense in this game? We forced OSU into a shitton of early turnovers that lead to some fast break points. If not for all of the fouls, we could've stayed aggressive and forced some of those easy makes towards the end to be much more difficult. Sure, shooting was off, but we were playing the #1 team on the road. I'm just shocked we had that crowd quiet for as long as we did.

The OP is actually factually correct.

A graze above the shoulder blades = contact to the head. That's an auto-foul no matter how incidental the contact may be.

The refs were not terrible. OSU is the better team. They play better defense. They got to spots quicker. Zack Novak is awesome at taking hits. Unfortunately he's not always awesome at being quicker to the spot than B10 guards.

Also not mentioned were 4-5 STUPID fouls that UM blatantly committed. For example the time Lauderdale came down with a rebound and Smotz just tomahawked his arm for no reason. There were a few of those DUMB plays by our guys

Then, there are the charge/blocks. Those are usually about 50/50 and we've actually done well taking charges. Tonight we didn't get the benefit on some of those, but that's just tough

The rest of the fouls were questionable. I agree that Morris got mUGGED on that one drive. But the next time down he threw his body looking for contact and was out of control. refs aren't going to award that.

For me, the most frustrating part is playing against someone like Sullinger, who like someone mentioned earlier, is a lot like Shaq. He is so big, he can just get down under the rim and muscle his way to a layup. It seems like no matter what we did, on either end, he would end up getting the advantageous foul call. He was rarely called for anything on defense, and we couldn't get anyone on him fast enough on offense.

Why can't we get someone like that? I know it sounds juvenile, but it's almost unfair playing against someone like that. It's probably why I like basketball least of the major sports. In no other team sport can one player dominate the game like a big guy can in basketball. Especially when the refs aid and abet said big guy.

I agree that I was getting so irritated when we would get mugged on the way to a layup with no call and then on the other end they were calling such "ticky tack" calls against us.

But, I think we really went stagnant in the 2nd half and we should have attacked the rim more. For some reason (tired maybe?) we took out Morgan in the 2nd half, even though he was attacking Sullinger and scoring.

This team really needs to find a backup PG to help spell Darius for at least 7-8 minutes a game. Stu and Novak are not cutting it at all handling the ball.
