New Commit for recruiting class of 2029

Submitted by Benoit Balls on

Lucas Stephen Johnson is the newest commit to Michigans 2029 recruiting class. His father, who posesses no athetic talent whatsoever, is very hopeful that Luke will take after his elders, a number of whom are over 6'4" and 275 lbs

Most interesting, while my wifes OBGYN was finishing up the stitches she noticed my Michigan t-shirt (everyone notices here in Columbus) and she proceeded to tell me that although she was an OSU alum, she is now "100% rooting for Michigan".  The reason? She grew up in Kettering, OH and was the captain of the cheerleading squad at Fairmont East High School when Brady Hoke was the captain of the football team (I knew he was from Kettering, had never heard of Fairmont East, I looked it up, and she was right. I'm inclined to believe she wasn't b.s. ing). She also added that she has been friends with Laura Hoke since they were both 12 years old.

She could not say enough nice things about both Coach Hoke and Mrs. Coach Hoke. She said that Coach Hoke is exactly as we all see him to be, honest, hard working, and a phenomenal person with a wonderful family.

I know, I know..."Cool story, Bro", but please forgive me. This is the first baby for my wife and I and I was already excited, and being able to tie this day to Michigan Football and the tremendously tremendous Coach Hoke just made it that much better

Nice choice of name as well from someone who also has a boy named Lucas.

FYI, get used to 'cute' nicknames: Lukie, Pooky, Pook, PookyLuke, etc.  Also, VOLUNTEER for night feeding rotations, learn how to change diapers and give her a day off on the weekend. I know, seems like no brainers, but they go a long way.

We had twins when our first was only two, all boys, so I can probably change a diaper better than most mothers.

This is one of the underlying reasons behind my daughter being named "Astrid" and my son being named "MacLaren". My daughter has a great name with no real short form, and my son, at worst, will likely just be "Mac", which is what we call him anyway (even though he is well-aware of his full name).

Since Lucas was a twin the wife and I flipped a coin and each of us chose a name for one of them. I chose Andre for the other twin. The wife wanted to name Lucas, Luca, being Venezuelan I guess that is their equivalent but thankfully I convinced her otherwise.

I had quadruplets and thought that would mean I would at least be able to name a couple the names that I wanted. I also thought it would making the naming process easy, but I was way wrong. First, every name turned into somewhat of a compromise on both our parts and second, the process took ages. One of our boys didn't end up with a name until he was like 2 weeks old.

Congrats to all the "new true blue" that have recently arrived or arriving shortly.  A few short months ago, I would have thought it a bit premature to start thinking about the classes of 28' and 29', but suddenly it seems quite possible to get those commits!  Again, congrats to the proud parents and good health and prosperity to the little "bluesters"!

my wife is 9/10 weeeks, I will probably post something if its a boy because he is going to be a kicker or punter.  However with the birth happening around signing day I dont think a 2030 recruit announcement will be a good idea

Congrats!  Is he your first?  The two greatest days of my life were when each of my two sons were born.  Enjoy it and be ready for full blast sleep deprivation.

.....it will happen to you, and you'll come to realize that your friends' comments were carefully edited so as to spare you some of the seedier details of infancy.

You'll live through it, of course, just as your parents did, and as those of us who have been down that road did. It's an awesome experience in retrospect.

A friend of mine was about two months into it. He had woken up for the fiftieth time (at least) in the middle of the night to get the bottle warmed up for the baby. While he was waiting for the bottle, he looked at himself in the bathroom mirror. The sleep deprivation had so affected him, had so ravaged him physically, that he barely recognized himself. He started crying.

I have two kids, 8 and 11.  Make sure you enjoy it. It goes by really fast.

Most of your "denials" will come crashing down.

I remember being told all the horor stories and that "your life will never be the same"...  Then my dad took me aside one day before my first (my boys are 2 and 6) was born and told me that "Your life will never be the same... it will be so much better."  It made me feel good to hear someone frame it that way, and he was exactly right.

Enjoy!

First, Congratulations to Lucas and his parents!

This discussion about the Class of 2029 reminds me of the t-shirts sold at Ulrich's back in the day with a picture of a baby and a football and the tag line, "Grow 'Em for Bo."   Indeed.

Get rest when you can and stay up with the young man when you have to.   When the crying goes on like it will never stop, just remember that it will.  Have patience.  Enjoy it all.  *sigh*  Our baby just turned 18 last week.

comment about the recruiting video earlier about this infant, I just remembered that the NCAA now considers me a booster (see the other thread about boosters), so I must refrain from further comment.

Wait, nvm, that said the prospect has to be in 9th grade. SEND YOUR KID TO MICHIGAN!

Congrats, Max, and make sure he starts talking up Michigan with his fellow recruits...you know, as soon as he starts to talk! My dad had me saying "Go Blue!" when I was 2.

...our first child, we moved to Newport, RI. The list of OBGYNs in town who took CHAMPUS that the Navy gave us contained info on the doctors' educational backgrounds. Naturally, I convinced her to go with the guy who went to U-M Med School. Unlike everyone else on the list, he didn't list where he earned his bachelor's degree.  When we saw him at the first checkup, I asked him where we earned that degree. It turned out he was a Michigan undergrad and applied to med school as a junior. They admitted him right away and he never earned a BA/BS. That's when I knew for certain that we were in good hands.

Congrats on the birth of your son!

Yeah your right "cool story bro!"

I look at your avatar(Nice Buck) and it reminds me of the great memories I had deer hunting with my father in the dark swamps just south of Houghton Lake.I was usually sitting there with dad(10-11years old) freezing my ass off,but loved it anyway and if it was a Saturday,Bob Ufer was on my dads transistor radio.God that was awesome,Michigan football and deer hunting!Probably will not hear another announcer in my lifetime who broadcasts with so much emotion, that you actually feel it.

The call of the AC td against IU still brings tears of joy to my eyes.

My wife and I had our first son almost 4 months ago, he is also named Luke (born Luke).  He's wearing clothes in the 6-9 month range, so hopefully he keeps growing big.  He's a 2029 commit as well.

I'm 6'4" and played high school ball.  My dad played D3 college ball and my great uncle played tailback at Northwestern, so he's got some football background.

My friend Andy Raab and his wife had a baby boy on Saturday named Brady (after Tom, not coach).  He's in for 2029 as well and Andy was an all-league middle linebacker in high school.

Scout is saying OLB but Rivals DE. I guess it's always hard to project when kids' bodies still aren't fully developed.

Either way, congrats!
