Need to think about something else, so scheduling question

Submitted by jimmyshi03 on

Know it's a small thing, but I'll drive myself mad thinking about Saturday, I have a question about our upcoming open dates.

Has there been any news/rumors regarding the open slots in 2018/2019? Obviously the 2018 game would likely need to be a home game, as we open with Notre Dame on the road and then have SMU in week three.

The same is true in 2019, but the late Notre Dame game does seem to complicate things, and I'd rather have the late open date before the season closes with MSU, @IU and home with OSU.

With ND already on the schedule, I don't imagine we'll see a top level Power 5 opponent, though the 2019 schedule seems to cry out for at least a middle class Big 12, SEC or ACC opponent, maybe as a one-off.

I think you are thinking of the PJ FLECK, boat-rower WMU.  Dude, that team is SO going to be gone by 2018 -- and probably by 2017.  Fleck be so outta there.  Purdue?  Baylor?  Oregon?  Notre Dame?  Or, if he waits until after next season... MSU?

Might be cool to put a basketball-rivaly spin on it: Schedule Kansas, Duke or Kentucky. Absolutely no idea if they have openings, don't care to check.

By the way, Ohio State during these same years basically just has a home and home with TCU as their "tough" out-of-conference opponent that's supposed to give them SOS cred.

That November 9 date is open for both Michigan and Rutgers.  I mention this because that weekend is the 150th anniversary of the first intercollegiate football game, November 6, 1869.

Since I doubt Princeton would be available to play Rutgers (as they did that day in 1869), given current Ivy League rules, there's a possibility that Michigan and Rutgers, as the two oldest programs in FBS, play in a sesquicentennial showdown.  You know the Big Ten would sell the crap out of that.  (The only issue is that Michigan is slated to host that game, but small detail.)

If this season's proven anything, it's that you should schedule the weakest non con possible. Washington is about to get in with one loss if they beat Colorado. I need say no more.

Also - RS Senior Speight and Harbaugh's fourth year wrecking crew is going to absolutely demolish Notre Dame in 2018.

I hope you're wrong.  Weak non-conference schedules are an embarrassment to college football.  I'd much rather see Michigan take on the toughest possible opponents than see them defeat Rutgers by 78.

Wait, what do you mean, Rutgers is a division game???

to do something about playing at Sparty and at OSU in the same season.  Add to that going to Notre Dame, and that is a (seemingly) tough trio of games to win.

Even if you go 2-1 in that stretch, you really do not have much room for error.

Scheduling tips:

Time to tell ND thanks but no thanks and put a cupcake in their place.

Time to move the OSU game to the beginning of the year so we can recover if we lose and still make the playoffs.  If your goal is to make the playoff that is.  Tradition is cool and all but we are in the 4 team playoff era.  When it moves to 8, put them back as the last game of the year.

It's time to demand we no longer play osu and msu on the road in the same year.  For christ sakes we play ND MSU and OSU on the road in 2018.  That is not acceptable.

It's time to stop getting trampled by the suits at the B1G and OSU.

not sure what manuel was thinking when he put nd back on the table for that particular year. plus i was kind of looking forward to the arkansas home and home. hopefully that will be negated by m$u going back to being a bottom dweller where they belong.

I don't see it mattering, just some patsy. Because we made the decision again that the only quality non-con opponent we are allowing ourselves to ever have is the Domers...meh
