ND-Back To The Future.

It is just HILARIOUS how similar ND’s own situation is to where we were 3 years ago. From "Camp Kelly" to "Longo Beach" everything they once mocked of us they now endure. Here are some of my favorite pieces from various websites and ND message boards: “The Kelly offensive approach gives new meaning to the term “basketball on grass” that served Joe Tiller so well at Purdue.” “It’s not just go ’til you die,” Stewart said of his practice impressions. “There’s a rhyme and a reason. I’ve spoke to some of the guys on the team and a lot of us have consented that, ‘Hey, we’re going to be ready in the fourth quarter.’ Our practices are two hours and you’re not walking anywhere. I think it’s going to help us in the fourth quarter.” “It’s really good for us,” Goodman said. “We’re going to be the best conditioned team in the country. It feels good to get out here and run around. We need to get in better shape, and it think we will. We’re going to be lethal.” “What Kelly has working for him is history, his own history. Kelly made both immediate and sustained wide-ranging impact on the Division I level both times he switched school colors and area codes.” “But part of Kelly's job this spring is to let his players know who ultimately is in charge and to draw distinct lines about how and where the culture - not just the X's and O's - has changed.” “Kelly closely follows his "prototypical body-type model" to fill out his rotation and a couple of players didn't fit the mold to stay in their positions.” "I'm able to use my speed more on the outside, I can make some more plays in space where there are not a lot of blockers," said Smith, who played on the outside as a freshman and part of his sophomore seasons. "I feel like my skill set outside is better than my skill set on the inside." “As far as Theo Riddick's move from running back to wide receiver, that decision wasn't rocket science. Similar to Golden Tate playing running back in high school and moving to wide receiver in college, the move for Riddick is about finding him more touches in space.” “We’re going to be fast,” Lewis-Moore predicted. “We’re going to be hard-hitting. High-energy. Fun to watch.”

There are a lot of similarities to Rodriguez and Michigan at Notre Dame. ND won't have the same level of difficulty because the difference in systems is much smaller, and they have crazy things, like scholarship quarterbacks. It was pretty clear last season that Crist is really talented--we'll see if it translates to the field.

The recruiting during the Weis era was much better than the end of the Carr era here (especially considering the guys who didn't pan out here). If Kelly can avoid having a mass exodus, and there's no sign that something like that is coming, he should be able to have a much more solid start than did Rodriguez.

how this addresses their two greatest needs.(A defense and a running game) Much like Michigan the last two years, ND can't stop anybody; however unlike Michigan they can't run to save their lives. I don't care how many points you score if you give up 30+ points per game. I was convinced watching Kelly coach in the bowl game that his defensive prowess leaves a bit to be desired... I'm just happy we have a good chance of making two in a row against the Irish this year. Go Blue!!!

Lol, players taught how to talk to the media all saying the same things, imagine that. Have you seen any of the practice footage yet? It has really changed.

Irish I have ahd it is obviously different under Weiss. However when you consider Longo to Barwis as Kelly to RR and the rhetoric there is simply too much irony to not see the obvious. Although Kelly has more to work with the Irish fan base is talking the same talk Michigan did 3 years ago. If Christ does not emerge competent (and all indications early he pretty much looks like Steve Threet back there) look out.

I have no idea what the majority of the irish fan base is talking about, so I will take your word for it. I actually saw a ton of similarities between ND07-08 seasons and UM08-09 seasons, and used them as part of my preseason predictions for UM last year, which weren't too bad in the end. I don't see the same alignment between ND's hiring Kelly and UM's hiring of RR. The characters might be similar but the situations are not.
