ND's very first drive of the game..

Ok, im hoping someone can explain this to me, or did the Refs completely fuck this up..

On ND's first drive it was 3rd and 4, Crist scrambles and gets into the endzone, but there was a block in the back against ND.

Ref says it is a 10 yard penalty and repeat 3rd down.. Ok i get it..  3rd down and 14 then right?

No, they replay third down and 4 and don't move the ball back at all?

Was this a complete blown call or did i am i completely not getting why it was only 3rd and 4 again instead of 3rd and 14 after the penalty?

the penalty occurred out in front of the line of scrimmage, that is a 10 yards from the spot of the foul.  Michigan may have had a penalty like this as well.

but the penalty didn't occur until after Crist got pass the first down markers.  Wouldn't it then be first down, but 10 yards back from the spot of the foul?  I believe the foul happened right around the 5 yard line, so I thought it should have been 1st and goal at the15.  I am not a ref though, so I will take the referees call on it.

What about the chop block penalty on Mich?  Was that bogus?  Is the rule that a WR can't come down towards the middle of the field and block anyone below the waist?  becase all the wr did that I saw was just do a cut block on a LB?

10 yards from the spot of the foul.  There were plenty of no calls against the ND offensive line.  Martin was getting held on almost every play, and was quoted after the game as saying the refs kept giving ND warnings.  It's nice to know that not only did we beat ND in their own house, but we also beat the refs.  Hail Hail!
