NCAA play by play

Anyone else notice that the cbs coverage of this evening's games, especially the pitt-xavier and nova-duke games, has been excellent? The commentary (Verne Lundquist/Bill Raftery) has been exceptionally good. They don't try to force anything, they don't get too opinionated. They offer decent opinions, keep the viewers informed, and get excited and into the game. They're people you wouldn't mind watching a game and sharing a beer with. However, they're not preachy and elitist. They're common folks who just love basketball. Why can't we have more commentary like this?

There's nothing I love more than when the sound/booth fails and the commentators voices get cut off. When that happens (like during parts of the Michigan-Clemson/OU games), I'm as happy as a clam. However, these two haven't been bad so far. Its been nice.

I don't know; during the Xavier/Duke game, they seemed to get caught up in telling stories instead of talking about the game. I got exasperated when they were on the fourth or fifth story and they almost ignored a charging call against Duke in favor of whatever story they happened to be telling. But they got over it eventually, and aside from that stretch of maybe 15-20 minutes (real minutes, not game minutes), they were good.

I really like Raftery. He's a huge improvement over Billy Packer, who I always thought was a complete ass. Raftery gives his patented "man-to-man" line to start the game and his "onions" call when someone hits a big shot late is great. I'm hoping Raftery gets to call the Final 4 games...anything but Bilas.
