Nate Woody expected to join Michigan's staff as analyst
According to 247, the DC from Georgia Tech is joining Michigan as an analyst.
He will not be play calling, however he was offered the DC role at Army and Georgia Tech this year.
It's an interesting hire for Michigan and a move to a big time program for Woody even when he had offers to be a DC with more power elsewhere.
Welcome to the Blue, Woody.
Which sounds odd considering the other Woody from Ohio. And no not the animated cowboy voices by Tom Hanks...

....and Pep is still here.
January 28th, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
Sadly Pep wasnt wanted by any other power 5 school or any team in the NFL.
And because nobody else wanted any part of him Michigan was left with no choice but to keep him in his present role and make him the highest paid OC in college football.
We had no other options. None.
January 28th, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
It's worse than that. He's not even the OC, just a really over-paid QB coach.
January 28th, 2019 at 11:21 PM ^
Wait, I thought Jim was the QB Whisperer and Coach???
January 29th, 2019 at 12:05 AM ^
And even if he was an excellent recruiter (which he isn't) what kid would want to be recruited by a guy who Michigan has been trying to get rid of for 2 years and just got demoted. Getting recruiting by someone who is almost guaranteed to not be on the staff while you're a player there would make you want to commit elsewhere.
Pep is dead weight at this point.
January 29th, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
He's one of the reasons McNamara came here.
January 29th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
Don’t tell them the truth. They are insiders and they’re actually Harbaugh himself. Some people know more than everyone inside of Schembechler Hall.
January 29th, 2019 at 2:45 AM ^
why can't he just be fired?
I'm echoing the post by Michigan4life. I apologize for the redundancy.
January 28th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
There is one option that Harbaugh for whatever reason refuse to utilize it. That option is to fire someone.
January 28th, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
It wouldn't be for cause so wouldn't he get a hefty buyout? Might as well keep him. Michigan fans all say in unison "for cause he isn't good".
January 28th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Michigan can afford to pay the buyout.
January 28th, 2019 at 10:08 PM ^
Michigan can afford the buyout. You only get 10 coaching spots. Wasting one on a shitty recruiting mediocre qb coach is a worse waste of resources than paying the buyout.
January 28th, 2019 at 10:59 PM ^
We all know that he is not a good OC but it appears he is relieved of that duty. So maybe Pep is a decent QB coach when focused on that job. JH probably weighed the pros/cons of firing+buyout and figured keeping him is the better approach.
January 28th, 2019 at 9:48 PM ^
I was going to ask mGrowOld if that was sarcasm lol. Because what you said should happen if he can't find another job. I don't know maybe I'm wrong.
January 28th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
You really dont know if I'm being sarcastic or not? Really?
Common now. I'm 59 and spent the better part of the past 25+ years in executive management where i hired.....and sometimes FIRED....a lot of people through the years.
Yup no other options available to Jimmy here. Lord knows i only ever let a massively unperforming associate go when i knew they had already secured another job at equal or higher pay. I mean i dont think you're allowed to fire people otherwise are you?
January 28th, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
I mean I kinda thought you were being sarcastic. You just didn't have the /s which I absolutely hate seeing anyways. Obviously a few people missed your sarcasm lol. I'm more of a lurker then poster but I always like a lot of your takes, even though I still can't vote on the new site......Sigh
January 28th, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
You might be different, than a lot of people, if you enforce accountability at your organization, MGrowOld. Which is to your credit.
People on the outside looking in, don't necessarily know what someone is good at or not, and people on the inside might take a while to reach that knowledge. Sometimes it takes trial, error and tinkering. The best leaders will capitalize on the strengths of each person.
As far as Michigan's staff and Hamilton, there are too many unknowns. There is a lot of human factor and specialized knowledge that doesn't translate to a language that everyone is fluent in, although there's no shortage of people who think they know better.
Unfortunately, people in all kinds of orgs from profit to nonprofit, once they reach a certain level, might know far less than people in many job levels below theirs, and suffer no consequence. That's the Peter Principle, a longstanding and affable term for someone who either enables dysfunction through incompetence or provides a safety net for people not performing even as they feather their own nest.... usually both.
College football, at least to my eyes, doesn't seem conducive to harboring examples of Peter Principle. It's just too competitive of a world. There are only two outcomes, W and L and often the difference, especially nowadays, comes down to a razor thin factor.

Hijacking a thread right from the top to bitch about Pep...get over it.
The obsession with this one guy is borderline insane on this board.
January 29th, 2019 at 5:51 AM ^
It’s not borderline, it is just”plain insanity!” Actually it’s so bad one poster has acknowledged that certain people in here lol that cannot go unnamed, speak affluent,”Pepkill!” There are people who admit that they’ve worked in management in other areas and equate it to college football. Now if that’s NOT insanity, I don’t know what is. When you don’t know the in’s and out’s of a persons job and continue to worry about what that person is doing and why,”yes that’s another example of pure D insanity!” I’m sure Pep is saddened by some of the posts in here. Some people have just plain admitted that they have nothing else to do but hate. HATE, feel intense or passionate dislike for someone. This post had nothing to do with Pep, but you can find the haters just take a small peek.

Meme + groupthink + anonymity = hysteria
January 29th, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
Guys, Tim Drevno left last year on February 23, and that's when Warriner joined the staff. There is still lots of time for more changes. Quit being impatient in calling for guys to be fired/hired. The NFL season isn't over yet and we still have another signing day in a week. We need to let all the dust settle before going into BPONE about Hamilton still being on staff.
January 28th, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Believe he was pretty good at App State as well
January 28th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
Offered at Army and Georgia State... as DC
January 28th, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
Yes. You're right. My bad. He was former DC at Tech.
January 28th, 2019 at 6:57 PM ^
To be able to edit our threads....
January 28th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
...to be honest, I have no idea how, or else I would.
January 28th, 2019 at 7:29 PM ^
We can't edit OPs, that was the point of the comment.
January 28th, 2019 at 7:30 PM ^
I missed the sarcasm. I'm on a roll today
January 28th, 2019 at 8:48 PM ^
Welcome to the club
January 28th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
don't feel bad benzolamas. i got totally taken when an OP yesterday opined that there's too much violence in football. i actually thought he was serious for a minute.
January 28th, 2019 at 10:12 PM ^
I feel better now. Cold but better.
January 28th, 2019 at 6:59 PM ^
Is he being brought in primarily to help Brown prep for our game against Army this September?
January 28th, 2019 at 7:44 PM ^
I had the same thought. Nua's time at Navy will help as well.
January 28th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
Exactly why he is coming!
January 28th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Yes, that, and hopefully with a nice side benefit that he can help us shut down OSU.
January 29th, 2019 at 10:55 AM ^
Wait--this current staff is so inept they need to hire a guy just to help them beat...Army???
Oh Jimmy, we hardly knew ye.
So much for national championship aspirations...
January 29th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
Yeah, how ridiculous of us to bring in an analyst that has knowledge of a ranked team we’re scheduled to play. It’s almost like we’re trying to be, you know, prepared.
January 28th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
The 247 story said he was expected to join the Georgia State staff. They had an earlier story that he was going to be their new LB coach, not the DC. They did say he was offered the DC job at Army. He was let go by the new coach after one season at Georgia Tech.
January 28th, 2019 at 7:26 PM ^
Correct. I read that wrong and then in consequence typed it wrong. Domino effect...
January 29th, 2019 at 5:46 AM ^
Face it, you were just so excited having a Woody, what you were typing and it's correctness was inconsequential.
January 28th, 2019 at 7:40 PM ^
Jim's getting a woody!
January 28th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
This looks like a great hire.
January 28th, 2019 at 8:01 PM ^
GT has a new head coach who's a defensive guy...I don't think he was offered at GT. He was at GT and likely not retained.
That said, this is a GREAT hire! Harbaugh is on fire.
January 28th, 2019 at 8:29 PM ^
Great guy. I met Coach Woody at a coaching clinic at NC State just two years ago. I specifically discussed coverage packages with him because I ran a 3-4 as well. He is a BIG zone coverage guy and loves to split the scheme with playing man on one side while zoning the other half of the field. I am excited for Michigan to get him and PRAY that Don Brown can drop his stubborn arrogance enough to possibly listen to Nate's suggestions. Especially his zone blitzing schemes.
January 28th, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
Great info. This seems to make more sense to me than hiring someone solely focused on helping us defeat the 4th or 5th toughest opponent we are likely to face next year.
January 28th, 2019 at 8:36 PM ^
What exactly do these analysts do? Just scout and watch film?
