Nate Woody expected to join Michigan's staff as analyst

According to 247, the DC from Georgia Tech is joining Michigan as an analyst.

He will not be play calling,  however he was offered the DC role at Army and Georgia Tech this year.

It's an interesting hire for Michigan and a move to a big time program for Woody even when he had offers to be a DC with more power elsewhere.

Welcome to the Blue, Woody.

Which sounds odd considering the other Woody from Ohio. And no not the animated cowboy voices by Tom Hanks...

And even if he was an excellent recruiter (which he isn't) what kid would want to be recruited by a guy who Michigan has been trying to get rid of for 2 years and just got demoted. Getting recruiting by someone who is almost guaranteed to not be on the staff while you're a player there would make you want to commit elsewhere.

Pep is dead weight at this point.

You really dont know if I'm being sarcastic or not?  Really?

Common now.  I'm 59 and spent the better part of the past 25+ years in executive management where i hired.....and sometimes FIRED....a lot of people through the years.

Yup no other options available to Jimmy here.  Lord knows i only ever let a massively unperforming associate go when i knew they had already secured another job at equal or higher pay.  I mean i dont think you're allowed to fire people otherwise are you?

I mean I kinda thought you were being sarcastic. You just didn't have the /s which I absolutely hate seeing anyways. Obviously a few people missed your sarcasm lol. I'm more of a lurker then poster but I always like a lot of your takes, even though I still can't vote on the new site......Sigh

You might be different, than a lot of people, if you enforce accountability at your organization, MGrowOld.  Which is to your credit.

People on the outside looking in, don't necessarily know what someone is good at or not, and people on the inside might take a while to reach that knowledge.  Sometimes it takes trial, error and tinkering.  The best leaders will capitalize on the strengths of each person.

As far as Michigan's staff and Hamilton, there are too many unknowns.  There is a lot of human factor and specialized knowledge that doesn't translate to a language that everyone is fluent in, although there's no shortage of people who think they know better.

Unfortunately, people in all kinds of orgs from profit to nonprofit, once they reach a certain level, might know far less than people in many job levels below theirs, and suffer no consequence.  That's the Peter Principle, a longstanding and affable term for someone who either enables dysfunction through incompetence or provides a safety net for people not performing even as they feather their own nest.... usually both.

College football, at least to my eyes, doesn't seem conducive to harboring examples of Peter Principle.  It's just too competitive of a world.  There are only two outcomes, W and L and often the difference, especially nowadays, comes down to a razor thin factor.

It’s not borderline, it is just”plain insanity!”  Actually it’s so bad one poster has acknowledged that certain people in here lol that cannot go unnamed, speak affluent,”Pepkill!”  There are people who admit that they’ve worked in management in other areas and equate it to college football.  Now if that’s NOT insanity, I don’t know what is.  When you don’t know the in’s and out’s of a persons job and continue to worry about what that person is doing and why,”yes that’s another example of pure D insanity!”  I’m sure Pep is saddened by some of the posts in here. Some people have just plain admitted that they have nothing else to do but hate.  HATE, feel intense or passionate dislike for someone.  This post had nothing to do with Pep, but you can find the haters just take a small peek.

Guys, Tim Drevno left last year on February 23, and that's when Warriner joined the staff. There is still lots of time for more changes. Quit being impatient in calling for guys to be fired/hired. The NFL season isn't over yet and we still have another signing day in a week. We need to let all the dust settle before going into BPONE about Hamilton still being on staff.

The 247 story said he was expected to join the Georgia State staff. They had an earlier story that he was going to be their new LB coach, not the DC. They did say he was offered the DC job at Army. He was let go by the new coach after one season at Georgia Tech.

GT has a new head coach who's a defensive guy...I don't think he was offered at GT. He was at GT and likely not retained.

That said, this is a GREAT hire! Harbaugh is on fire.

Great guy. I met Coach Woody at a coaching clinic at NC State just two years ago. I specifically discussed coverage packages with him because I ran a 3-4 as well. He is a BIG zone coverage guy and loves to split the scheme with playing man on one side while zoning the other half of the field. I am excited for Michigan to get him and PRAY that Don Brown can drop his stubborn arrogance enough to possibly listen to Nate's suggestions. Especially his zone blitzing schemes.

It has been said that they're working as "assistants to assistants" (sort of like George Costanza as the Assistant to the Traveling Secretary of the New York Yankees). LINK

In theory, analysts are not allowed to coach, but who knows what goes on behind closed doors? LINK
