my christmas wish for 2010
I love a lot of things about our offense. Seeing how we out-gained an experienced defense in Ohio State really gave me hope for next season and the future under Rich Rodriguez. It also brought me to thinking of the one thing that would take our offense to the next level.
A Deep Passing Game
Looking back on the year, with the exception of the bomb/pick to Denard, and maybe a few heaves on third and long, when have we thrown the ball 20+ yards down field. I miss watching Braylon or Manningham streaking behind the opposing safeties, to have a tight spiral dropped into their arms in stride, as they walked into the endzone. I think that adding this dimension would open up the running game and create more space to complete our shorter passes and screens too. Right now, its a lot to ask of Tate and our offense. Tate doesn't have the strongest arm (see under-throw + pick to Denard), we dont seem to be able to get long enough protection from the OLine, and at this point we don't have that deep threat receiver. Here's to hoping things can get even better in 2010.

i think tate's arm has been hurt a lot of the year, but i think it clearly shows the lack of deep speed when you actually throw a deep route to your backup QB.
my wish is for a big bruising RB who can provide a compliment to the quick RBs on the roster, a la minor.

Tate is not going to be a QB that throws bombs. That's just not the kid of QB he is. His arm isn't that of a Henne or even Navarre.... He can hit the screens, the slants, and the out routes.
A few months off will do him some good. He needs rest, recuperation, and time to clear his head.
