My apologies to John O'Korn, Brian and The Board

Submitted by Lakeyale13 on
You would think that a 41 year old man could act like a man over a simple football game. Saturday I did not. I let 14 years of emotional investment (too much and not healthy) in Michigan football cause me to get into a sort of rage. I should rage over world hunger, not a silly football team losing. I live a 12 step program, and one that tells me to acknowledge when I mess up and promptly admit when I am wrong. So my apologies to Brian, The Board, and John O'Korn. I was wrong. I acted a fool. I ask for your forgiveness. So hear is to making amends and Go Blue.

Close but not quite... (begin Catholic pedantry) Forgiveness (absolution) is always immediately available, but there may be a remaining temporal punishment due to sin for the satisfaction of justice. Indulgences are for the latter. An analogy would be when your kid totals your car: if the child shows contrition, you forgive him, but you might still demand that he makes some sort of remuneration to compensate for the lost car. Or, by completing your summer landscape work, you waive the need for a cash payment. (close of Catholic pedantry)

There isn't much written about the religion of Michigan Football, but it is different from Catholicism. (How different probably depends a little on whether you're asking Harbaugh and Schembechler or Yost.) What we do know from Ufer is that Saturday is the Holy Day of Obligation and we know from Schembechler that Ufer went to Football Valhallah.

Click on his username to see recent posts.  BTW it's also a good way to confirm trolls like GordonG, AAForever and TrueBlueForever.

OP's isn't really that bad though.  I saw so much worse on Saturday.

OP do this one thing: stop with the "haven't won X games out of Y years" and "haven't beaten a top X team in Y years" things.  Most of that history was set under RichRod, Hoke, or digging ourselves out of that.  It's done, can't be undone.  Then evaluate what you're seeing.  Yes lowest-common-denominator broadcasters and other fanbases will be able to use those things as a weapon.  Let it roll off.  Start from there and it's a lot easier.

It speaks well of one to admit fault and make amends.

If I may, I’d like to offer my own simple rule that has helped preserve my sanity as a CFB fan:

When my team wins, I (briefly) allow myself the illusion that it matters. When they lose, I remind myself that it doesn’t.

Works for me, anyway...

I don't forgive you. I can't stand adults obsessed with sports. Kids, and even early 20s people I get. But if you're 30 and a sporting event ruins your weekend, you need to reevaluate your priorities and life itself.

I realize this is a stupid site to spout that.

This response is some of the stupidest shit ever. Everyone makes mistakes obviously and no one is perfect but making a complete overly emotional ass of yourself on a college athletics message board is one mistake that is very very unthinkably easy to avoid. So spare the Mr perfect bullshit when not acting like a dick is easy to accomplish.

I have to say I avoided the boards this weekend, and I felt OK about it. This year has been particularly vicious at times. I wonder what’s up with that? I’ll say this though, for a free board, MGoBlog could certainly teach the 247 crowd a thing or two. If you think it was bad here, my goodness are they an insufferable crew. Not that this community should compare itself to that one, or that either one was “righteous” post game.

I understand Brian’s warnings, and I hope we can all get a little better from it.

It takes an adult to admit they are wrong in public.  Make sure the next time you are rage posting, to give it an hour or two before you press "Save" and still see if you want to post.

I delete 90% of my contentious posts when I do that.  TBH, I normally don't even bother looking at the thread again when that happens.
