If the Appling and Payne allegations are at the core of this, this is fantastic news. It will be fascinating to see how MSU handled the allegations and student discipline.

You can be sure Hollis will retroactively suspend them....

The Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney's Office will demand a mock trial. In the basement, with the defendants tried in absentia.

Is the Freep even covering this story?
The last time (when they appealed the previous ruling), it didn't even show up in a google search.
I think some small blurb that barely talked about why this was going on was buried on their website.
So ESPN is interested in this information, yet the local media isn't interested in gathered and examining the same data?

Rexrode has enough on his hands trying to keep the Bullough story under his hat the past 2 years. Also it was announced this week (seriously) he is releasing a book (again seriously) about the UM-MSU game this year. A full book. Because Sparty.

I've searched the corners of the earth and never seen any plausible reason for that suspension.
December 23rd, 2015 at 6:20 PM ^
Rexrode stated he knows the story but I guess being part of the free press (pun intended) means not sharing .....you know....news.
December 23rd, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
I saw it mentioned amongst Scout.com Victors Club forum users that it was indeed steroids.
Also alum96 has mentioned multiple times, that the lapdog Rexrode knows the story and has refused to report on it.

The rumor is that Bullough tested positive for steroids. I don't know if that's true, but it's been a persistent rumor. And it's consistent with the MSU stone silence on the issue.

Ran with this story a while back.
I'm kind of more inclined to believe the PED narrative (MSU's "converting" three stars into NFL draft picks who fail in the NFL makes this argument persuasive) but then again, anything is possible with the Sparties.
December 23rd, 2015 at 9:02 PM ^
Wait, you're talking about staee players who 'roided up and became NFL busts, doesn't ring a bell....

6'6" 315 college boys didn't happen back then without juice. Now you find at least one player nearly that size on every team. Nutrition and strength training have come a long way. In EL they just know how to take a few shortcuts.

Sounds similar to what happened to Lattimer on the ESU Timberwolves

Neither PED nor recreational. Every player was put through the NCAA testing rigors prior to the B10 CG that season (which was how a couple Buckeyes - I believe Noah Spence was one - ended up getting the post-season ziggy).
One poster is in the neighborhood of the truth in this thread. I realize it's more fun to rationalize MSU's success away, but a simple rule of thumb would be, if johnnavarreismyhero is posting it, view it with a HEALTHY dose of skepticism.

Come on, they don't use steroids up in El. Coach D just coaches em up!

Is trying to become the next Drew Sharp. An annoying troll that nobody likes. He just does stuff to get a rise out of poeple now a days. Judging by some of the comments on RCMB I don't even think there are many MSU fans left that like him.

There is no allegation that any students at MSU were involved in illegal stretching. The Freep reserves its big guns for big issues, like excessive stretching.

Also the Freep was aware of the Payne and Appling rape.
There was a remark by the Feds that said the investigation was completely mishandled.
There was also a line that said the Detroit media had knowledge of it, but didn't pursue it because no charges were brought (interesting since Gibbons was never charged with anything and there was a field day with that).

... I'm less interested in the impact to MSU, which I think will be minimal given how old the case is.

Incredible that they were allowed to withold the names in the first place. Amazing the special treatment athletes get there.

Investigate a guy that used steriods (which probably opens a big can of worms) or investigate stretching.
msu also had a bunch of guys with DUIs/pointing guns at people, but guess which arrest video was posted on the Freep website - Minick!
December 23rd, 2015 at 7:25 PM ^
Amazing that Delton Williams is allowed to pull guns on people on a college campus without even being suspened for a year.

Its funny how its the duty of the media to report things like egregious stretching and RR's saying bad words. (Meanwhile Jizzo can have a sailor mouth because that's coaching and passion!)
Yet that same media withholds damaging information when it involves msu.
