MSU: Latest they'll wait to announce kick?

Submitted by kawter on
Seems like there may be some kind of battle between the TV folks and the people that want to protect our humanity by not having STAEE burning our couches after the game..

That said.. Does anyone know if there is a required timeframe to announce a kick? I'm looking to book travel and may fly back night of the game if possible, but if I keep waiting airfare will skyrocket soon.

Any thoughts on game time? Any insight into when they have to make a decision? (Or when to expect one?)

I wish they would pull an SEC and make their own start time. Make it a 6:00 game. It would end at 10:00 so you don't have to worry too much about afterwords. Or you could do like a 2:00 which makes it in between a noon and 3:30.

i dont really care when its played since im only a fan but you realize most players prefer night games right?   i know our teams always preferred games to kick off later than sooner - nothing better than rare thursday night games or main prime time games, everything is just heightened.

ive never really understood the intense desire to maintain certain games at certain times while frowing on alternatives.  sure, i can see msu and osu not randomly chainging kick times every other year, but fans should be content as long as its remotely consistent.

i can understand if fans desire noon or 330 kicks to allow for decent tailgating as well as reasonable post-game plans (which makes sense, a great full michigan day) or just prefer to enjoy games that end prior to 1130 pm or whatever.  i just hope its not some ridiculous sentiment based solely on "tradition" of playing certain teams at certain times and such practices must be maintained at all costs bc of "tradition"

I think the big ten has a rule about no outdoor games at night in November simply because the weather. I did a quick search and could find anything official only articles saying they are open to night games in November. I can't think of any that have occurred yet outside of the championship game which obviously is indoors.

It was because arrests and alcohol related incidents skyrocket during MSU games, not " intense desire to maintain certain games at certain times while frowing on alternatives." Moving the game later only gives the Sparties that decend on campus more hours to get even more drunk and unruly.

I believe they can wait until next Sunday to decide, which would suck. I'm scheduled to run a race that morning and if it's a noon game, I have to bail on the run (maybe that's a good thing?). I'd say 70% chance it'll be a 3:30 kick.

I'm an old school 12 noon man myself.

While I suspect the student opinion might be 8 I'm not sure that would reflect the 80k donors/alumni/season ticket holders etc.

Will be interesting to see how Hackett navigates this thing or if it even matters, really.

Well, Hackett confirmed last week at the student town hall that there wouldn't be a night game.

Also, 115,109 people were okay with a night game at UTL2 two years ago.  The alums are just fine with it, given proper notice of course.

No way they change it to a night game on a whim.

So even if the majority of students want this game at night, there are a whole lot of people coming long distances that don't want this game declared an 8:00 start time this late in the process.  I think Hackett runs the potential of making more people angry than happy with a night game.

If there's a way this can be spun as a TV decision with us unable to make a change, then at least ESPN/ABC would be the bad guys.  This is what I've secretly been hoping for.

This is correct.  Earlier suggestions that it could be announced next *Monday* are mistaken.  The options are 12 days or 6 days.

Primetime games are set before the season starts.  The options are noon and 3:30.  The schedule is uninspiring:

I'd expect 3:30, given that the only other TBD game is Minnesota / Nebraska.

I would say 3:30...I'm so excited for this game and actually get to go to game. Being able to tailgate with a big group is way more fun if we play later in the day and changes the game atmosphere

Give me a break they do night games auburn bama and everywhere including nfl and serve alcohol. Quit being blue haired M and worrying about safety and give your team a home field night advantage.
