MSU faculty: 61 - 4 Vote of No Confidence on board of trustees

Submitted by StephenRKass on

MSU faculty held a formal vote of no confidence on the Board of Trustees. The vote was clear:  61 - 4. This was partially precipitated by the Board appointing Engler, rather than someone with real and impartial academic bona fides.

My observation is that despite Engler and some alumni and fan and student elements supporting Dantonio and Izzo, there is a large amount of anger over the whole issue. I really don't think this is going to go away and be swept under the rug.

other political issues.  Take your pick.  Staee has dropped from the collective attention span.

I was with you on Dantonio & Izzo getting booted - I'll believe it when I see it.  Unless there is something ridiculously incriminating they're not going anywhere.  Gnashing of teeth and impotent protests aren't going to do anything.

Congrats to the faculty though.  Kinda feels like some half-ass country's legislative body voting no confidence on a dictator. Like Putin.  Not going to change anything.

I don’t live in Michigan or read any of the state’s main newspapers so I will take your word for them not covering the issue. But those 100 lawsuits are not going away. Once the motions to dismiss are denied, expect more attention as discovery unfolds.
Also: many may settle but there is no way all 100 settle or are dismissed. All it takes is one.

Can someone with some legal background tell me what this means?? If anything? Is it basically a “public opinion” vote? Is the university forced to make a change. A change not involving cronyism? Or does sharty just keep throwing cold wet blankets on the tire fire?

I'm not a lawyer, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but it's very Macbethian -- (words) full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

The trustees are elected by the people; they don't report to the faculty.  It's as meaningful as a Vote of No Confidence by the Michigan DNR would be regarding the Governor.  I mean, it's hardly a good thing for them, but nobody's losing a paycheck.

The longer this drags out the more I lose hope of Dantonio and Izzo being ousted. They certainly deserve to be fired, but the longer the process takes, the likelier I think it is that those 2 crime enabling pieces of shit get to stick around.

If I were a parent of a daughter at MSU, I would want Dantonio gone for bringing Robertson the rapist on campus. He was twice charged with sexual assault, yet was wandering around with the girls on campus just because he can rush the QB on a Saturday afternoon. I hate Izzo like poison, but really need to see some proof that he was involved in wrongdoing. Unless I am missing something, at this point it is nothing more than hearsay or speculation. Prosecutors and attorneys are saying they have never spoken to him, and probably risking their reputations and careers if those are lies.

well, except for the fact there is video evidence of a player basically saying he was involved in a gang rape and yet no repercussions whatsoever.  i'm still waiting for the details on the other alleged gang rape a few months earlier involving the assistant coach.  again, without repercussions.  those details will hopefully surface soon.

A constant drip drip drip will hurt MSU a lot more than the hammer coming down immediately. It really is better that Michigan not pile on. Let the thing run its course.

I don't think izzo and dantonio are going anywhere. There's not enough heat on them, especially dantonio.

The faculty are correct here. University presidents are more than slap-dash problem-solvers culled from public-profile alumni. Engler has no institutional memory at Michigan State. He has no demonstrative qualifications to be a university president. The faculty were right to instinctively believe that there's no reason to expect a qualified interim couldn't have been brought out of the faculty until a permanent president could be found. And that's before you even take into account the extenuating circumstances of why this happened in the first place.

It already has been swept under the rug. Unless you live in Michigan, no one is talking about it anymore. Initially I thought both coaches would be gone but the longer they survive, the more me thinks Izzo and Dantonio aren't going anywhere. Weather the initial storm long enough and something else will come up to refocus everyone's rage.

Strampel stripped of his tenure,   https://www.freep.com/story/news/2018/02/11/msu-abuse-scandal-reporting…;  Cannot insulate MSU as the employer for every leadership wrongdoing.  Engler is trying, though.

Pleading assault cases down to littering is the norm in EL  (that's the unintentional message anyway)

Will do the same as others above. Will donate $20 if one is done before the fall season of 2018 and $40 if both are gone before then.
