MSU's grade tampering and forfeiture of entire 1994 Season
Did Michigan State's grade tampering scandal leading to the forfeiture of the entire 1994 season get this much attention?
How do allegations of extra practice compare to proof of grade tampering? They always talk about the fab five asterisk. Why is this never mentioned?

Because they forfeited the entire season and fired the coach. I remember it being a big deal at the time, but State wasn't exactly good in those days so it was more of "meh, not surprising" story.

That was Michigan State. This is MICHIGAN.

...because the Free Press obviously doesn't, and I am really tired of the media maggots trying to crawl on a carcass that isn't even dead yet.

Also, looking back 15 years for something like this is ridiculous. Can you imagine how annoyed you'd be if there was a small kerfuffle over the MSU basketball program's training practices and one of their fans threw out, "OH YEAH, WELL REMEMBER THE FAB FIVE!?" It's petty and counterproductive.

It was the free press's story headlined "Just like in basketball, Michigan will conduct an investigation" that caused me to think of this. The difference being that this is a posting board and I dont have to be fair and partial.

Unfortunately around here the argument, "The Free Press stooped to that level, so I should be able to as well," doesn't hold a whole lot of water.

and also led to loss of scholarships. I think Perles has a stain on his tenure because of this. I do not think that grade tampering is comparable to Michigan's situation. Grade tampering is much worse, and the penalty was harsh, but necessary.

I beginning to wonder if they were still obsessed with UM.
