More Video of Tonight's MBB Open Practice: Beilein Introduces the Players

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Here's some more video I shot of tonight's MBB open practice. Beilein introduces the players, and a little 3-on-3 drill. Huge ovation for Austin Hatch, as you'll see.

(Sorry, I'm really bad at this posting stuff. If somebody who knows what they're doing wants to do me a solid and embed this, I'd appreciate it.)

Looks like finishing at the rim may be an issue (again) this year.  How many missed layups are in the 2 1/2 minutes of scrimmage?  I think we've led the league in missed layups the past several years.  Fortunately, we've exceled at shooting everywhere else.

1) 3v3 full court...anyone who suggests that at the gyms I frequent just gets laughed at. Impressive conditioning.

2) OP, could you hear Beilein's coaching points throughout the night? (That's what his comments were during the drill, right? They are difficult to make out clearly in the video, not your fault.) Anything interesting you noticed in how he phrased points or what he focused on?

3) Did they run any 5v5? If so, was it fast break-oriented, like this 3v3?

It is actually called 3 on 2. It is a drill to simulate fast breaks and how to stop odd man breaks. We used to do 3 on 2 and then 2 on 1. Pretty good drill to get the kids understanding and communicating because someone has to take ball while the other basically runs to the paint to help off the initial pass.

Love the 3 on 3 drill.  Teaching the kids to get up court.

During the introductions, I realized how young these kids are. Maybe I'm just getting older.

I can't believe how big Caris looks too.  I know that he added weight, but holy cow he looks like he filled into an NBA body.

I was sitting in the front row of the student section and a couple of the student managers were talking to their friends saying this was a subpar practice compared to what they were used to. This could be another extremely high flying offensive team if they can hit open shots consistently.
