Michigan Stadium Guide

Looked through it real quick, here are some highlights:

  • Student section is now sections 26-34
  • Students enter through Gate 10 only (opens 3 hours prior to kickoff)
  • The lower 22 rows within the student section have been assigned letter designations: H, O, K, and E (yes really), students in front of the lines (chutes?) get wristbands that allow them to sit in one of these lettered sections
  • The rest of the students get a GA ticket for their designated section (row 23 and up)
  • All of this applies to validated student tickets used by non-students

Exactly.  The best thing about this whole system is that it takes everything that went wrong with the basketball general admission seating and magnifies it.  Crisler won't open the doors until 1.5 hours before the game, but the Big House is going to do it for 3 hours.  The stampeding issues that existed for bball games are going to exist here as well.  The gates are going to be extremely crowded and when people go from those waiting areas to the stadium, it will get wild.  People are worried about other students coming down and taking spots.  What is going to stop them from doing that now?  It's not like they're going to take someone's seat.  They're just going to force people to squeeze down.

The only thing this new ticket policy is going to change is that half the student section will be filled 3 hours before kickoff.  The lazy people who showed up late are still going to show up late.  THey will be "punished" as a result of their laziness and go to the back (unless of course they just walk up to the front and do the same exact thing they did in previous years), but the good fans will be punished as well.  They are now going to have to waste countless hours by the end of the season waiting in lines just so the student section will be half filled for the teams to see during warmups.

That's one of the main gripes with this plan. While everyone else gets to enjoy their tailgates, we either have to leave ours or not even tailgate at all. You could drink in like but don't even let the AAPD hear that... MIPs and public intoxication up the wazoo

The problem is, you guys haven't been very good about finishing your tailgating in time to get to the game, unlike the non-students.  Hence the policy.

For most games, you probably won't have to get there very early, though.  This isn't like basketball where there's 500 seats up for grabs.  There are a lot more good seats for football.

New plan: get there ass crack of dawn early, wait around, invent world's most inconspicuous drinking game, acquire wristband, dash back to State street for remainder of pregame. I see no problems here. Of course, I now have alumni tickets, so I'll just be over in the golf course.

So let's say I get there super early and want to sit in row 30 or whatever of section 26. Will I now have to get a wristband since I was one of the first people there? If so then I'm going to be leaving an empty seat in the first 22 rows since I don't want to sit that close as it makes watching plays on the other end of the field a nightmare.
