Moderator Action Sticky 2018

New offseason, new moderator sticky.

READ THIS FIRST:

--------------------------------------

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

--------------------------------------

Things we moderate a lot:

  1. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?
  2. Noise/snowflakes. We ask our moderators to try really hard not to censor ideas but some ideas are so tiresome and retread and badly argued that they’re not worth keeping around. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise.
  3. Useless content from other sites. Clickbait is annoying. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti and Chatsports are the other two on the ban list. Bleacher Report is off the list but still under close observation.
  5. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We tried one year of this and our female readership shot up after being really low. This means it’s a good rule: however much you enjoy cutting loose with the guys, we have tens of thousands of readers it drives away.

Hall of Stickies Past:

The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth. The sixth. The seventh.

His Dudeness

Way it: anyone else stuck in ATL today thread.

Xtramelanin attacked me by calling me Ms dudness for no reason. Then made fun of me. He should be banned forever in my opinion. How many times do I have to be attacked by him before he is banned?

Seth,

I don't want to keep bringing this up in threads because it clearly annoys others but we have a troll that is using multiple accounts for the purpose of:

1) Disparaging Brandon Peters through various posts and passive methods like - talking about all other QBs and leaving him out - in the context that the info was coming from inside info or coaches. Or saying "I think he will transfer" or that he is a MAC level talent as well as trying to plant the seed that one of his accounts was Shea Patterson. This has been going on since January but is picking up speed lately.

2) Causing issues in general because even though many realize it is a troll others don't and it then seems like unwarranted hostility when anyone points out that it is a troll.

Here are clear examples (hopefully) of what is going on:

Thank you. Looking into it.

Update: looked into it and while you may be on to something (two of those accounts look like burner emails) I'm not, like, an expert and don't think anything he's posted is inflammatory enough to get Nexcess to track down the IP addresses. I can't patrol everyone who knocks Brandon Peters on our board, and it's easy enough to show video of the Wisconsin game or this year's HTTV article that's half about Peters to confront that.

If that changes we will do an IP check, so keep an eye out.

Don't know who Section 1.8 is, but is seriously trolling in the Urban Meyer statement thread. It's one thing to have an opinion counter to the majority, it's another to lack any decency with respect to an abused woman (the poster argues that Meyer did her a favor by having Zach Smith keep his job).

This guy needs to be gone. He's an OSU fan coming here exclusively trying to claim the abuse on Courtney Smith never happened.

I think that after six postings, the board now knows that our basketball coach, hallowed by his name, had double bypass surgery earlier this week.

Why was my post re: MD deleted? This was a brand new story just published at 6:30pm, not a rehash of yesterday's news about cause of death for the McNair.

Can we please get rid of the OSU trolls that are flooding the board lately?  They are obnoxious and they are out of control.  I know it was already asked up above, but I have reached the point of desperation.  I no longer want to read the board.  When those fools are ruining the experience for the rest of us, I think they need to be removed.

Please get rid of and ban (RedGreene). It’s seriously pathetic that a blog like this would allow this guy to be here. Look at his posting history.... all but one comment that is viewable is straight up trolling. Also, inflammatory language and politics. Please do not allow someone like that to be here, it’s embarrassing.

Local lies for clicks tool makes up a story

Unfriendly reminder that chat sports exists only to make up stories they think you will believe and we will not be part of it.

As per our policy the user who posted it is banned.

Um, Moderators, I rushed to make the post, got the title wrong, its LB Khaleke Hudson Presser, not RB Karan Higdon Presser

Can you guys change it? Is it possible?

Had no idea I would get so much hate for trying to hype up Brandon peters. The thread can get deleted. It went too far.  It turned into other fans and I misinterpreting what the other was saying and arguing about nothing for no reason. Let my post be a cationary tale

This is a fucked up thing to say:

Lol.  After this, Urban and his team and going to be on an absolute mission of destruction.  A Hells Angels style gang rape of your Michigan Men football team will occur on 11/24/2018 in cbus.  You heard it here first.  Fuck yeah!  Mother fuckers!

If banishment is available in mgoblog 3.0, let's use it on this Scioto guy.

Yeah, you could say I went off the rails just a bit with that comment. A combination of Hunter S Thompson’s “Hells Angels” being my beach book this summer and the Titos. But I blame the Titos on a friend of mine who happens to be a Michigan man. Lol. It all comes full circle.

OTish: Two Stanford Players Call Out Durkin

There are far better ways that this could have been presented, I think, and the thread reflected the poor presentation.

Mods. Please delete my thread about Urbz being gone. I was trying so spur discussion based on something I heard on xm  and what my neighbor told me he saw on Twitter. People take them selves too seriously and are losing their minds. I got a lot of conversation going when nobody seemed to be showing a pulse tonight, but apparently people don’t care about that.

Urbz might be gone... unconfirmed

Unless you're actually going to post a story which adds to the discussion, or at least a reasoned conclusion based on an amalgamation of available information, then no.
