Moderator Action Sticky 2017

New offseason, new sticky, because these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Things we will moderate so hard that if we were the government you’d probably have a 1st Amendment case but we’re not so shaddup about your freedom of speech this ain’t no democracy it’s just a message board run by people who believe in democracy.

  1. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?

How moderation looks from our end.
  2. Noise. We ask our moderators to try really hard not to censor ideas, but we do control noise. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise.
  3. Useless content from other sites. There are a lot of sites feeding a lot of Michigan content out there, and a lot of that is good stuff. But more than ever these days a lot of it is just stuff which tries to tickle your fancy or make you mad about something. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti and Chatsports are the other two on the ban list. By the time you have enough points to post an article you should know that some people make a living off of trying to get the legions of Michigan fans angry enough to click.
  5. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We tried one year of this and our female readership shot up after being really low. This means it’s a good rule: however much you enjoy cutting loose with the guys, we have tens of thousands of readers it drives away.

Hall of Stickies Past:

The first, the second, the third. the fourth. The fifth. The sixth.

Michigan running inside zone against MSU will be like lighting a down on fire

I let it go hoping the OP would bow out gracefully from the error, but apparently not. Needless to say, let's try to not have threads for people who didn't read the UFR - just read the UFR, for the sake of simplicity.

OT: Shaving a cool michigan Design in my cat’s fur

As the owner of three cats, one of which is probably psychotic, I advise against this.

DJ Durkin

We had our fun with this one.

But I understand.  Part of the thread was actually a pretty civil debate.  Other parts of it were... not.

I would suggest putting it back up and locking it, though, lest it spring back to life when somebody thinks it hasn't been posted yet.  Just my 2‹.

Harbaugh at Night

We've been through this a few times now, and in a TV-controlled world like college football, more quality opponents at night mean typically more difficult games at night.

Ban RedGreene

As a wake-up call, Red loses his points for the month - not personal, but that was a bit overboard. Maizen gets to keep his thread even if it rubs people the wrong way since it isn't offensive per se (the interface makes cleanup nearly impossible though), and BornSinner loses his point for the month for making something that isn't personal, well, personal.

If you're really that upset about the moderation on the site, BornSinner, feel free to e-mail Seth and Brian and tell them - I will accept their judgment on the matter.

for my responding to the 4910 accounts.  I should have just downvoted and moved on.  Replying to all of his trolling only further clutters the board.

Thanks LSA for all the cleanup work you had to do this weekend.  This week probably won't be a whole lot easier.

A note to all the Jim Harbaugh haters

We've had a few of these threads now, and the consensus, unless I have missed something, is three-fold:

1) All the eggs are in fact in the Harbaugh basket

2) It is fine to critique playcalling, staff alignment, etc...

3) Actually wanting Jim Harbaugh fired is insane and GTFO

Some aspects of human behavior, social practices such as culture, expressive forms such as art, music, dance, ritual, and religion, and technologies such as tool usage, cooking, shelter, and clothing are said to be cultural universals, found in all human societies. The concept of material culture covers the physical expressions of culture, such as technology, architecture and art, whereas the immaterial aspects of culture such as principles of social organization (including practices of political organization and social institutions), mythology, philosophy, literature (both written and oral), and science comprise the intangible cultural heritage of a society.

Hope that answers it. Go Blue!

MGoBlog Quarterback Debate

No offense to the OP, but in the blog's eight-volume comprehensive study entitled "O'Korn Vs. Peters Vs. Meritocracy Vs. Air And Other Things", we concluded in multiple threads that many people have different conclusions.

It wasn't me who took that thread down but if it was advertising something the advertising has to go through me. Creating a coupon just for MGoBlog readers is considered advertising. Email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to help this guy.

Whichever moderator took down the article please post the reason in this thread.

This felt mean-spirited and it was a reporter's phone. When you're in the road team's press conference room it's small and noisy with lots of people coming in late and reporters tapping on their laptops so it's common to stick your phone on record and put it up by the subjects. You're also supposed to put it in Do Not Disturb mode.

Will Michigan Win this weekend?

I mean, if you're going to use this as a thread title, the answer inside has to be complex and angst-ridden. This IS MGoBlog and we DO have a standard.

...and just so I don't create another post....

John O'Korn on demotion

I thought it was going to be a thread about Peppers. Am I doing that right?

In all seriousness, if there's an article with quotes, that's fine, but asking the board how he is doing like we're sitting there with him isn't the best route here.

By the time he earns back enough points to post a thread he'll learn how to title them more journalistically.

By the time he earns back enough points to post a diary he will know not to put bad ideas for board threads in them.

Rutgers hired a spokesperson for a murderous regime spokesman as a teacher.

Yeah, even though it sounds like yet another PR disaster for Rutgers, I don't think this - as presented - is going to go well.

Are we recruiting Cassius Peat?

This was already covered in the "Harbaugh And JUCOs" thread yesterday.

That thread IS fixed, incidentally, if you couldn't access it before.
