What happened to your thread.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread or argue read this:

Things we will moderate harder this year:
  1. Politics. It's an election year; don't even bother.
  2. Useless content from other sites. There are a lot of sites feeding a lot of Michigan content out there, and a lot of that is good stuff. But more than ever these days a lot of it is just stuff which tries to tickle your fancy or make you mad about something. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt. Sharp, Valenti or Chatsports will lose you your posting priveleges without exception.
  3. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We're sick of it, our female readership is even sicker of it, and any value you might place on the comfort of cutting loose with the guys is worth less to us than the damage it does with tens of thousands of our readers.
You know what? Go read this again:

Scanning tickets question

Asked and answered:

Quote from MGoUser LJ -  "Scanning on the phone is fine, but be forewarned that your service might be crappy around the stadium, so the stubhub app may not load your tickets easily. I almost the band entrance last week because of this despite arriving a solid 15-20 min early."

Help an mgoblogger get forgotten season tickets reissued sat am

Asked and answered - will call or the ticket office at Crisler will hook you up with reissued tickets if you've forgotten yours.

Don Brown's defense has been a disappointment

Bad take is bad and getting worse. Little point in keeping that thread even now.

Because the OP is a habitual offender in the "Bad take" category, he can have his points back at the end of the regular basketball season as it is undoubtedly his favorite topic.

This post is disgraceful and this user is no doubt someone who has been banned multiple times from this website:

http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/any-new-injuries-besides-possibly-speight#c…

That one left a mark. Shoulder pad or was it the helmet right to the cheek bone? Poor guy was just trying to do his job the best he could. Edit: I think I'd send a check of a $1000 to Peppers if he did this against the suckeyes and he hit Robert Smith, Kirk Herbstreit or Joey Bosa right in the mouth. I could die a happy man right there.

Also, this guy loves him some stupid nicknames (Suckeyes, Sharty). http://mgoblog.com/users/fan-fargo-0

CBS Power Rankings: Dennis Dodd style

If you're going to put "NEG AWAY" in your post, do us all a favor and don't post in the first place.

caved already boliviated user. His comment wasn't any worse than the usual message board kind of dumb, but considering he was already in Bolivia, plus the username, Urban Meyer avatar, and Maurice Clarrett thing in his signature, and the fact that his dumb comment was regarding Urban, I decided it was time to ban him since not doing so just reflects poorly on us and Michigan fans in general.

My obsession at the moment is hitting the "read more" link and seeing if I get something other than a blue screen.  No luck so far.  Anyone else having a problem with this post?

Bad fans tweeting at Corey Malone Hatcher....

I have a feeling this is going as well as anyone could have hoped. People suck on the Internet, and I say that as a person on the Internet who might suck.

How good is OSU... turnover margin?

It didn't seem like this one was going all that well for the OP either.

How Michigan shamed Tom Brady into college exile

This is more or less the NY Post stealing a story from ESPN, if I am thinking of the right one, a story which - possibly for the better - didn't make the board yesterday.

THe OP's intentions seem sincere enough, which is fine, and the thread was more about fundraising advice than anything, which kindof makes it a bit kiosk-y and a target for eventual removal just based on those grounds. I will let the OP signal when he's got the direction he needs, or rather, I will sit on it for a bit until I assume that he does.

OT: Montez from CU 333 yds passing/ 135 yds rushing vs Oregon in win

Arguably, the "2016 Colorado" thread could easily cover this information, and indeed, I think some of it is posted in there.

OT If/when Penn State fires James Franklin, who do you think will be their next HC?

I think we're good on this one now. As this was the low-hanging fruit among the PSU threads, we will take this one down.

Semi OT: Personal Pronouns are now a thing

As funny as this is, some of the comments were starting to get a smidge political and there is enough football-ish content to keep us going, so we'll take this down for the time being.

Left Tackle, Moving Forward

I tried to retitle this, but then decided to just remove it - the OP asked what could have been a decent question about depth in an unfortuate way and it isn't worth the effort to save it.

Chesson Injured?

Chesson Not At 100%?

I pulled the first thread because posting injury speculation with zero evidence there's an injury is a great way to get people really pissed at you.

Posting the same thread again, getting angry with the response, changing the thread title but not the content, and calling the board "nazis" for being justifiably upset about injury speculation is, uh, not the way to bounce back from that.

OT - Man with Machete enters Colorado's Football Facilities

I missed it, but all indications are that the OP committed "Reading Fail" with the article that they chose to post and in the process made a very inappropriate joke, butchering the thread.

Someone can throw this out there again, of course, but please read the articles first, that's all I ask.

Which seems to be a direct response to this

http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-hokes-d-gives-70

Perhaps we can have a general policy that celebrating the failures of previous coaches (for no other reason than the fact that you disliked their performance back when they were at Michigan) is frowned upon?

It is, to quote Xtra Melanin in the RR thread, "not a good look."  Especially after a day like yesterday.

OT: US Navy ship attacked twice this week

While I know we are all glad StephenRKass' daughter is safe and are thankful that we have so many people willing to put themselves in danger for this country and we thank them for that service, this thread is now beyond salvaging due to the insertion of politics and some sociocultural matters.

As for those of you who inferred that the mods or the staff have an agenda, I know I feel a bit insulted by that, but whatever.

Seth

October 13th, 2016 at 3:09 PM ^

It's OT, but I cleaned it up and reinstated, because I think the readership gains something, however small, by being able to say "You know the U.S. ship that was just attacked twice off Yemen yesterday? The daughter of a guy in my internet community is on that ship! If this wasn't StephenRKass it'd just go the way of OT but he's established enough in this community that something happening to his family that is also of national consequence passes the sniff test. Like if Lloyd Brady was on a train that got derailed in New Jersey, that's of meta interest to us, right?

That said, this is the second time that OP invited controversy when there is none:

More than being relevant to me, I am reminded that we have the freedom to enjoy football games and many other things in our country because of sacrifices made by all military forces.

Why add this? Just from a literary standpoint, you just said your daughter  was on the ship that got fired on twice. Most anyone here who's reading that is already going to be sympathetic to her plight and that of her crewmates, and those who are not probably have a strong political reason for that. So it feels like this was inserted more than anything else as a dare to anyone who's not sympathetic to say something anti-troops.

I won't ask anyone to pray, or even to think of the sailors on the ship (Let's stay PC and follow board policy. This also is apolitical.) Nonetheless, we can all appreciate the freedoms we have, and keep an eye on what is happening.

This is called Apophasis. What's a apophasis? It's a rhetorical trick to say whatever you want in the context of literally saying "I'm not saying this, but..." To say "I won't ask anyone to pray, or even think about the sailors on the ship" you are really saying "You should pray for the sailers on the ship but the PC nazis here won't let me say so." The way you don't say a thing is to not say it; saying you aren't going to say it is saying it.

I removed those two lines and reinstated the thread. Also cleaned up some of the people who took the bait. No bans because I considered them baited.

John Beilein: "Making the NCAA Tournament is seen as a successful year."

Context, context....because without it, this thread would go nowhere, as it has been. I'll quote Btown Wolverine below:

This seems like a semantic argument. He didn't say that simply making the NCAA tournament was the goal, or that simply making the NCAA tournament is the ideal.

Rather, he said making the tournament is a successful season. I read this as saying that if we fail to make the tournament, we have had an unsuccessful, or bad, season. This seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Maizen

October 13th, 2016 at 3:17 PM ^

As the originator of this thread, I should have provided more context to the board. The reason I originally didn't is because it was a stand alone quote from Beilein at media days when he was asked what a succesful season at Michigan is. Pretty straight forward.

In my mind, this is the equivalent of Jim Harbaugh saying UM making a bowl game is a successful season. The semantic argument doesn't fly because literally every team in every conference has the same goal, to win their league and win the NCAA tournament. It doesn't matter what goals JB sets or what is "ideal", it's about what defines a sucessful season. That's not a hot take, that's straight from Beilein's mouth.

I have been extremely transparent in my criticisms of Beilein. His teams don't play good defense, they don't rebound the ball, they don't block shots, and they rely on an offense entirely dependent on the 3 ball. Those aren't opinions those are facts, just look at the statisitics. I've also been vocal that his recruiting philosophy drives me mad. I think it's antiquated and ridiculous that he waits to offer scholarships to kids until after their sophomore years and only after they visited campus. I think his inability to land 5 star prospects and his need to focus on lower tier rated players is troubling. With that said, I want Beilein to win, and he has brought UM two BIG titles and a final 4, along with a slew of draft picks. Not bad considering what he took over.

So the fact that you felt the need to not only zap the thread but take away all my mgopoints is such a power tripping petty level of moderating that I haven't see since Tom Beaver was at scout. Censoring opinions on a sports blog just because you disagree with them is crap. Yes, you have a job to do, but dropping the banhammer on me then going to social media to brag about it is some next level douchiness. I had 7500 mgopoints in over a year because for the most part I bring good content to the board. It should be OK that I'm not the world's biggest Beilein fan, and I feel I've presented my views on that in a reasonable and respectful way.

I should get my mgopoints back and we should agree to disagree when it comes to JB. These aren't hot takes. After the last two years, if anything it's a fair topic of conversation. Stop making this personal with posters like myself and stop censoring the board because you happen to have a different opinion. This isn't North Korea.

Maizen

October 13th, 2016 at 3:38 PM ^

I don't really care about getting chastised. I care about getting all my mgopoints taken away unfairly. If I behave, post, and react so poorly, why have I accumulated over 7500 in just over a year? Let's be real, I'm getting pushback because I'm criticizing a UM coach on a UM blog by UM sports fans. Shocker. I really don't care about people liking my anonymous screen name, I care about being able to convey my opinions, which I have done so respectfully and reasonably since I became a poster here.
